Today the area is abandoned, and the historic buildings are losing their value to the citizens in the city. The idea is work with the all the historic an cultura that the area offers to us, explore the potential of the neighborhood of San Antonio. We wanted to bring more vitality, attractiveness, functionality creating new public spaces to the area.

ARCHITECTURALRENOVATION in the neigborhood of San Antonio Residential for low income families located in the city of Recife, Pernambuco - Brazil. The building is located in the same area of the last project - neigborhood of San Antonio. We relocated families from one “favela� to a building in the same area what was the old community. The old comunity was located at the shore of the river whithout any sanitation. We wanted to build to these people an area to live and play integrated with the new project of urbanism for this area (Urban Renewal of San Antonio Project)

The project is located in a tropical city, and in an area with high level of insulation. We wanted to make people capable to control the sunlight that will get inside of their houses, so we created a movable device that you can control how many and where the sunlight will get in. This system is distributed in the facade of the project in all windows.

The project is located in an “dead�and forgotten area that connects two cities - Recife and Olinda, in Pernambuco, Brazil. The area is a big beach without any access that iss surrounded by a old and historic community, a coconut forest and the harbor of the city of Recife (where the biggest intervention is located). We tried to conserve elements of this area, such as the beach, the culture of the community and the historic elements in our project. We also related the area to a common house, and made the urban design thinking in the logic of a house in an urban area - from the entrnace to the backyard.

The concept of this project is flexibility. I tried to make the inside e outside of the building in a way that could be used for different activities depending of the season, or time, or will of the user. Also, the building acts an element of transition of a built space to the natural space. The amphitheather spreads in the environment making this transition smoother. As an education center, the building and the site try to teach the user to feel the environment and the river.

LONG SECTION The auditorium is open as you can see in the longe section, and it can be anything - we follow the concept of flexibility of the building and of the space. LATERAL SECTION
“The classroom and meeting rooms are separeted by nanawalls, making the space more flexible and expanding the possibilities of use. The relationship indoor/ outdoor of the space is clear. We tried to put the environment inside and the building tried to reach it in the outside.”
