“SEMINCI” HEADQUARTERS, CULTURAL CENTER FOR DIFFUSION OF FILM CULTURE VALLADOLID, SPAIN
FINAL PROJECT UNIVERSITY OF VALLADOLID
SEMINCI, acronym for “Valladolid International Film Festival” is one of the most prestigious film festivals in Spain. Its increasing popularity in the last years and the lack of a headquarter, makes us consider the need for a center for the diffusion of film culture in the city. The project starts from the idea of rehabilitating an old industrial building from the mid-twentieth century in Valladolid, within the current tendency of recovering abandoned spaces of the city. The main principle is reconverting the space without losing its original essence, so it is proposed to create an interior envelope, an intervention within the walls that will allows to preserve the exterior view of the original brick wall. Its interior holds a series of wooden Spanish trusses supported by cast iron pillars which are preserved in the “red carpet” interior street connecting the two squares in the plot. Inside the building we distinguish 3 worlds, each of them representing a cinema icon: the red carpet, the “boite a miracles” where everything is possible and the screen. Each part holds a function in the building, the red carpet for common and distribution areas, representative spaces that can be used as an exposition room; black box for technical areas where the light needs to be controlled and the library and offices located in the urban screen tower with the premise of seeing and being seen.

THE RED CARPET As one of the greatest festivals in the international scene, it is proposed to create a red carpet for the Seminci. For that reason the street that is buried to cross the building is covered with a red microcement. The original wood trusses are preserved throughout the route, so the reference to the original building is never lost and the creation of alternating skylights between the trusses solves the lighting problem and respect the initial modulation.

”THE BOÍTE A MIRACLES” The “box of miracles” of Le Corbusier poses a space where everything is possible. The essence of cinema as a changing atmosphere is materialized in the project as experimental black boxes that can acquire different configurations: like the projection room or the recording studio. In order to enrich the spaces and their multifunctionality, a series of visual connections are established, thus a box seat appears from the cafeteria to the cinema or a big window from the restaurant to the recording studio.

THE URBAN SCREEN The intentionality of transmitting messages through the facades is a constant in the history of architecture. The light box containing the library and office uses, rises above the low-rise architecture of the pre-existing building to provide those spaces with natural light and views towards the Esgueva river walk. It becomes a landmark building, and the facade is used to place an urban screen with the condition of transparency for the natural iluminition of the offices. That is why a system of transparent multimedia facade is incorporated to the whole. The faรงade integrates not only the building itself but the urban context. A screen as a focus of attraction for the diffusion of the cinematographic culture in Valladolid.

CLOUD 99 RETREAT CHERATING, MALAYSIA
STUDIO LDA, LOOK DESIGN ARCHITECT KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA
“An abstraction of a fairy tail through the reinterpretation of clouds” The project aims to be a sanctuary, appart from the hustle and bustle of the nearby tourist city. To keep it guarded, secure and serene, we propose the incorporation of a green wall surrounding the plot.. The access point, in the side that connects with the road, includes a reception, tourism agency, parking lot and restaurant, which can operate independently of the rest of the complex.
In the side
connecting with the beach we find an infinity-pool (requested by the client) which serves as a barrier to control the access from the beach. 31 One-storey units + 34 Two-storey units = 99 DOUBLE ROOMS
Cloud 99 retreat aims to blur the edge between sea and sky; we propose to cover the units with different sizes of white canvas tents and the creation of a shallow pond as a cloud mirror.

COLLABORATION in RUBEN HERCE’S FINAL PROJECT UNIVERSITY OF VALLADOLID
The economic crisis and the development of the production model have converted many industrial areas of our cities in degrades spaces. This project means to be an entrepreneurial stimulus for the Argales Industrial Estate without losing the industrial essence of the place. The project aims to create a flexible architecture, capable of adapting and transforming itself to be able to respond to the changing needs of this type of spaces. The project has three main parts: _Factory shed. Part of the pre-existing structure is rehabilitated to accommodate the leisure areas (restaurant, gym and nursery). The translucent volume added to the factory shed contains a multi-functional area. _Tower. A landmark for the area where the media library, coworking spaces and administration are placed. _Parking. Modular car park system formed by containers with a mechanical system of storage and capacity for 6 vehicles. The number of containers is adapted according to the demand.

PHI FLOWER PAVILION SANTIAGO DE CHILE, CHILE
DIGITAL MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGIES COURSE FINIS TERRAE UNIVERSITY The concepts of light, fluidity and cohesion are present on the design of this pavilion that aims to create a unique meeting point. The project is about the transition from an outdoor public area to an inner space of reflection, which is achieved by spiral routes instead of direct entrances. In the central point, a space bathed by a zenithal light where the placement of a sculpture is foreseen. The components which form the pavilion, create a set of lights and shadows projected on the floor, evoking in the viewer a series of sensations during the tour.

MARIN II AREA, URBAN DEVELOPMENT
URBAN PLANNING AND NEW AREAS DEVELOPMENT UNIVERSITY OF VALLADOLID
SALAMANCA, SPAIN The project consists in a masterplan for the development of an area in the periphery of the City of Salamanca. We take into account the topography in the area with an important unevenness and the connection with the rest of the city through free spaces and the circulation road that surrounds it. KEY GOALS: Integration with the pre-existing urban plan; creation of a free spaces system that works as a barrier to the road; parks and squares squeme that promote social interaction; pedestrian and cyclist priority; social mixing and introduction of ecological guidelines.

FILM AND TELEVISION STUDIOS
ACADEMIC PROJECT UNIVERSITY OF VALLADOLID
LAS PALMAS DE GRAN CANARIA, SPAIN The project takes into account the analysis of the territory, the hidden structure and tensions of the existing topography, that will be present in the conservation-manipulation of the landscape. It creates a closed interior space, isolated, taking advantage of the orography. An opaque band is created to delimit the “inside” and “outside” and at the same time it serves as a communication node for the different pieces that cross it perpendicularly. For the lighting of buried areas, light boxes are used which in turn create a compositional game between the different pieces. The communications are arranged in two main cores that will be connected through a “bridge”. The perpendicular boxes that make up the different television recording studios have different heights, to accomodate different functions, and the largest perpendicular box is a communication block, café, restaurand and viewpoint.

NORTH WALL, URBAN ACCESSIBILITY PROJECT SEGOVIA, SPAIN
NATIONAL COMPETITION With MARTA GUTIERREZ AND JONATHAN AGUILAR
Accessibility project located in the historical centre of Segovia. The aim of the project is the communication of two of the main tourist attractions in the city: the Royal Alcazar and Casa de la Moneda (Spain’s mint). The current road is an old shortcut located in a steep and abrupt terrain, what makes it inaccessible for a large number of visitors, forcing to an alternative route of 2500 metres. Due to the considerable flow of tourists that this city receives, this is a totally viable project that responds to a demand and will boost tourism, the main activity in the city. The project proposes the incorporation of mechanical ramps through a system that integrates them perfectly in the landscape, reducing the environmental impact in the old city centre. This solution is applicable to other historical centers, promoting the idea of barriers elimination and the creation of an accessible cities network. There is a need to incorporate an elevator to bridge the unevenness, and we have chosen the area in which the wall has disappeared to give it a reinterpreted tower appearance, as well as endowing it with panoramic viewpoint qualities.

CHIL GREEN LINE
ACADEMIC PROJECT UNIVERSITY OF VALLADOLID
LAS PALMAS DE GRAN CANARIA, SPAIN
The project is a reconversion of Chil Road in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria into a greenline element that structures the city. Due to its location, this route has a landscape component especially highlighting its quality of panoramic viewpoint on the coast and beaches of the island. We start analyzing the different sections of the 3,5 km. road and discover the distinct characteristics of each area. Therefore, we propose the creation of “The walk of the 4 elements”, water, earth, air and fire (representing the diversity of landscapes in the island: ocean, desertic dunes in the south, sea of clouds in the summits and volcanic origin). Each of the 4 elements in the walk is endowed with a different type of autochthonous vegetation, an own range of colors, a specific type of furniture and a use according to the needs in that area. We develop the fire section.
