EXPERIENCE DRIVEN DESIGN BRINGING DECOR TO LIFE + BACKYARD OASIS AREA

CONCEPTUAL APPROACH

DESIGN GOALS:

To create a unique and enticing shopping experience

To connect customers to the possibilities, both through design and technology

To express The Home Depot’s brand and authenticity through the use of form, materiality and colour

The new concept for The Home Depot will disrupt the typical shopping experience of a big box store. In-aisle niches will display and cross-merchandise a range of products found in store, with a focus on bringing the products displayed to life. DIY branding and technology will be integrated within these areas to allow access to all of The Home Depot’s products, appliances, and tools. Technology stations equipped with iPads will be provided within these niches to provide customers easy access to The Home Depot app and DIY tutorial videos.

DEVELOPMENT:

IDEATION: Common to all of The Home Depot’s logos and signage is the brands distinct orange colour.

The Home Depot caters to do-it-yourselfers, as well as home improvement, construction and building maintenance professionals. The Home Depot’s dedication to craftsmanship is important to the brand. A customized structure that brings branding to life through the use of form, colour, and use of products sold in-store. This structure will be built with all of The Home Depot’s materials, including drywall, plywood, lumber, custom mixed paint in The Home Depot’s orange colour, etc.

APPLICATION: Niches will be embedded throughout the steel framed product shelving. Niches will display real life applications of The Home Depots decor. These niches will also cross-market the materials used to create the display, such as flooring, drywall, plywood, etc.

A similar form will house the Backyard Oasis Area situated outdoors in the Garden Centre. The Oasis is a display of a combination of DIY projects customer can take on to create their own backyard oasis. IPads are available to customers to access tutorial videos and material information for each custom project displayed.

Customly fit into the existing steel shelving unit, these aisle niches will create a unique visual experience, bringing products to life.
