Abstract
The objective of this workshop was to propose a new church and parish for the city of Chanco which was destroyed after the 8.8 earthquake in 2010. The proposal was the integration of the cultural history and the rural landscape that surrounds the site to a lineal type city. the project started from the fact that the town holds large religious celebrations so the church had to hold big crowds and also be able to hold smaller scale and intimate ones.

Proyect Strategies
1. weather and climate: The city of Chanco has a very windy climate. The structure of the main building is thought after wind studies to generate the major wind shadow so as to create covered exterior areas to hold larger celebrations. 2. Materials and sustaintability: the main material is wood since it is available in the area, this decreases use of the transportation of construction materials. It is also a material which can be used in a modular system: the project is thought to use the same module several times to generate the main structure. 3. Program: Chanco celebrates many religious celebrations so the church is a city icon and a center which holds not only celebrations but many other activities for the townspeople. New workshops, children’s daycare, library and more are included.

The Factory
Abstract
The project is inserted in the Patronato heighborhood, specifically in a pedestrian street, Paseo Asuncion. It is characterized for its intense commercial use and people from where the whole city converges to shop. The main problem is its single use: commerce. There are no other uses in the area so by night it is inhabited and prone to delincuency. The project proposes to insert new uses and revitalize the central area of Patronato.

Proyect Strategies
1. Mixed Use: incorporate housing, culture and commerce into a single use area (commerce). 2. Public Spaces: Generate an open space within a very dense area, not only built but also within the many activities that holds. New restaurants that face the plaza, use of vegetation. 3. Restoration: Main building is restored to hold new activities for public use: auditorium, multipurpose room, library and more.

Rehabilitation of the Baeza Riverside
Abstract
The project was part of an internship i did in the Parks and Recreation Department of a rural city in central Chile. I was in charge of the rehabilitation of an old landfill next to a city’s stream and its conversion to a new public space for the community.

Proyect Stages
1. Diagnosis and First Approach: After the 2010 earthquake the whole city of Talca was left in horrible conditions. The community center located next to the old landfill was also damaged and the project proposes to refurbish it, as well as the sports field. After gathering all the information needed I designed a first proposal that was presented to the community. 2. Participative Design and Brainstorming: The community had great involvement in the final design process. We had several meetings were we did brainstorming sessions for the image they wanted for the park, the feelings of insecurity they had at the moment and their main priorities. We drew a draft “masterplan” that came very close to the final project. 3. Final Design and Construction: With all the information and feedback I gathered from the community I could elaborate a new proposal based in the draft we drew together. The project was presented to the community and had great results. It was most gratifying to feel how our job as architects was put to the service of a close community.

Abstract
The project is located at a major crossroad in Santiago. It is also a converging point for transportation: subway, buses and taxi cars. In the past decade it has also become a buisiness center with many new buildings but few public spaces. The project proposes the renewal of a neglected square that has major potential for a mixed used developent.

The project is also an access to the neighboorhood: a recognizable point of entry that people can see as a landmark.
Proyect Strategies
1. location: interesting point of intersection that hasn’t been developed to its full potential. The arrival of the subway station increased the site’s opportunities. 2. Public Spaces: The surroindings have a lack of public spaces to hold the large amount of people who work in the area. The project proposes a group of plazas and underground activities so that ground floor space is liberated. 3. Mixed uses: The new buildings proposed offer a variety of activities such as Hotel, underground commerce (connecting to the subway station), public spaces and culture.

Circus Arts School
Abstract
The main objective was to renew a neglected area in the city center of Santiago which is also a Heritage Area with an iconic theatre, Barrio Huemul. The neigboorhood has been constantly damaged by earthquakes and informal constructions. Besides having incipient cultural activity, Huemul has not been able to motivate its community and create new activities. The residual spaces left after the subway line was built appear as an opportunity to develop a quality cultural and leisure center that include activities for the community, such as workshops, library and more. The project proposes to work in one of the 6 blocks that make up the neighboorhood and create a large open space at the center to hold artistic events and activities. The border contains the rest of the program and the theatre will be the main attraction that opens to the interior plaza.

Los Molinos House Vitacura, Santiago, Chile
Abstract
The project was born from the structure of an existing 70’s house in a suburb of Santiago. The main idea was to break the centralized plan of the existing house, to liberate space and generate garden and green areas. For this, demolitions were made in the north area of the house, that opened space and views for a new interior garden and also let most of the living spaces to receive northern light. The original house had only one floor, the new project incorporated a second one, separating the privacy of the family (3 bedrooms) from the common spaces (living room, kitchen, study and dinning room). Both spaces relate each other via an open sculpture-like stair, made of steel and with wood steps, receiving light from three skylights.

Abstract
National contest for public school in San Antonio, Chile. Main ideas: 1. Public Atrium: Open the school to its city with a great quad with many activities for the community: Public plaza, library, gym, auditorium and more. 2. luminic comfort and energy efficient: The distribution of classrooms is thought to receive indirect sunlight, and sunny areas are left to playgrounds and sports areas. 3. constructive system: The atrium requires wide covered spaces that are obtained by a reinforced concrete construction. This also works for the long ramps and circulations that connect both buildings. It is a lasting material, with low maintenance for San Antonio.

Varas-Collado House Vichuquen, VII Region, Chile
Abstract
Lakeside house built from an existing structure made from quartz rocks and concrete. The new house was thought to take advantage of the eastern sunlight by creating large window panels that catch the views towards the lake. The roof and high ceilings were thought as a unique element that covers the buolding as a cloak. All materials used are locally obtained: native wood shingles that cover exterior walls and roof, together with the wooden exterior and quartz rocks, give the entire house a warm and natural appeal that mimetizes with the surrounding natural landscape.
