Williamson County Fire Rescue burns home for live fire training By John Evosevic jevosevic@c-dh.net
For firefighters, live fire training exercises are an essential portion of training, but can be difficult to arrange. One problem is structures designated for live fire training must be selected to allow for a safe distance from other buildings. An added problem is the dearth of structures for training. Williamson County Administrative Fire Captain Steve Homrich noticed the vacant home at 4634 Columbia Pike going through stages of demolition, considering it a possible candidate. He approached the Town of Thompson’s Station and was put in touch with the owner Leon Heron. Heron generously donated the home for a live fire exercise and paid for a dumpster to collect the post-exercise debris The live fire structure began at 8 a.m. Saturday until approximately 4 p.m. by which time, the structure

Planning Commission considers new gymnasium, pizza and tap room By Jay Powell jpowell@c-dh.net A site plan for a new 13,500 square-foot children’s gymnastics facility awaits approval by the Municipal Planning Commission. The gymnasium will be located at 4008 Parkfield Loop on 5.25 acres of undeveloped property inside the Parkfield Business Center. Designs were initially submitted to city staff in December, city planner John Baughman said. Ahler & Associates, LLC, submitted the site plan. No specifics were discussed at Monday’s meeting regarding gymnastics programs, fees or what will be offered after the facility is built. Alderman Matt Fitterer specified his concerns regarding potential pedestrian access to the site, and recommended proper striping be considered for the parking lot. “I’m looking at it, and rather than have pedestrians cross a couple of drive aisles, if there is a way, we
