The project was a complete ‘back to the bricks’ renovation of a 4,000 sq ft apartment in 1906 Beaux Arts’ building Wendell Mansions in Kalorama. The objective was to bring the apartment up-to-date for modern living while preserving and referencing the original apartment features. The comprehensive re-design needed to meet the client’s desire for a contemporary aesthetic that respected the historical nature of the building and apartment. Plaster repair, custom millwork, new windows, HVAC, complete renewal of all finishes, and also the reinstatement and reconfiguration of the original layout all featured in the renovation.

KITCHEN The kitchen was kept in the central location it was originally at, however it was opened up to provide light to the hallways and to improve the flow between spaces. In the image below, the window on the right was doubled in height. The existing header remained as is but the window was extended to match the other window.
