who am I? Me llamo Maria Lopez y soy estudiante de diseño de la Universidad de los Andes en Bogotá, Colombia. Me eduqué en un colegio y por eso me interesan las diferentes culturas y los países en las que estas existen. Así mismo, me crié en una familia muy tolerante y que siempre me ha apoyado en mis decisiones, con una sola condición: si voy a hacer algo debo ser en eso. Soy una persona que cree que para lograr los objetivos hay que tener ante todo . Creo que el ingrediente principal del éxito es la felicidad y que no hay nada que traiga más que la satisfacción de lograr un propósito. Pienso que para lograrlo hay que trabajar con mucha y con amor a los retos y proyectos que se presentan. My name is Maria Lopez and I am a design student at the University of the Andes in Bogota, Colombia. I was educated in a school and so I’m interested in different cultures and countries where these exist. I was raised in a very tolerant family who always supported me in my decisions, provided that if I do something I should be at it. I am someone who believes that to achieve the objectives we must first have . I think the main ingredient of success is happiness and there is nothing that brings more than the satisfaction of achieving a purpose. I believe that to achieve purposes you have to and with love at every challenge and project that presents itself.
what do I think? Pienso que el diseño es una que me brinda la capacidad de pensar en a problemas que surgen en el día a día de las personas. Pienso que a través del diseño he aprendido lo valioso que es . Saber ser un que guía y un líder que sigue pero busca los recursos necesarios para aportar al grupo. Creo que lo valioso de ser diseñador de la Universidad de los Andes es saber trabajar en grupos , con personas que tiene intereses distintos y hasta profesiones distintas.
I think design is a that gives me the capacity to think of to problems that arise in the daily life of people. I think through the design I learned the value of . Learned to be a who guides and a leader who follows but seeks the necessary resources to bring ideas and solutions to the group. I think the value of being a designer at the University of the Andes is to be able to work in groups, with people who have different interests and even different professions.
how do I apply it? A travĂŠs de mis proyectos, tanto en mi empresa como en la convivencia con las personas que me rodean, aplico el diseĂąo y las herramientas que he adquirido mediante ĂŠl. En cada uno de los proyectos que siguen se puede ver la necesidad que tengo de los que se me presentan. De igual manera, se puede resaltar el trabajo en equipo y como busco rodearme de relaciones que me aporten a mi trabajo y a mi vida en general. De manera que en virtud de estas se construyan proyectos en los cuales se todos los involucrados. Through my projects, work in my business and spending time with the people around me, I apply the tools I have acquired through design. In each of the projects that follow you can see the need I have to the likely to arise. Similarly, each project emphasizes teamwork and relationships I seek to surround myself with, that bring positive contributions to my work and my life in general. So that through these relationships projects, that everyone involved, are created.
l árbol de los reflejos es un objeto decorativo que simboliza las sensaciones que a través de la naturaleza veo representadas en el sentimiento de hogar y de domesticidad. Este árbol es un proyecto que a través de su creación y las sensaciones que genera al espectador, logra transmitir mi esencia. Este objeto representa de mi varias cosas entre las cuales se destacan los valores familiares y de hogar con los cuales he sido formada. Es importante resaltar que durante la creación del mismo se aplicaron tradiciones que han sido parte de cada generación que conforma a la familia.
he tree of reflections is a decorative object, that represents the sensations that in virtue of nature I can see embodied in the feeling of home and domesticity. This tree is a project that exploiting the way it was constructed and the sensations generated in the spectator, manages to transmit my essence. It’s important to highlight the fact that in it’s construction, traditions that have been a part of my family from generation to generation have been applied.
Domesticidad ara mí la domesticidad es el hogar. Es un refugio donde uno encuentra la luz. Esta luz representada en paz, en tranquilidad. El calor de hogar visto a través de la armonía. Querer y buscar la manera de llegar a este refugio, de permanecer en él. Pensé en el invierno, cuando el frio de afuera te hace querer buscar un espacio en donde puedas observar la belleza que el frio genera sin sentirlo. Buscar una suavidad en los sentidos, en el tacto, el olfato, en la vista y en el oído. Una calma muda que transmita protección.
Domesticity or me domesticity is home, it is a refuge where one can find the light. This light represented in peace, in tranquility. The warmth of home seen at the hand of harmony. Wanting and searching for a way to get to that shelter, to remain in its midst. I thought of winter, when the cold outside makes you want to search for a space in which you can observe it yet not be a part of it. Search for a softness of the senses, smell, touch, see and hear softness. A mute calm that spreads the sentiment of protection.

lo largo de todo el proyecto hubo un factor persistente que se mantuvo hasta el final, la familia. Familia, porque el hogar y la vida doméstica, además de todas las palabras que representan, son, básicamente, una sensación que mi familia me proporciona. Desde las tradiciones que aprendí de mis abuelas aplicadas a la técnica y el conocimiento que mi abuelo y mi papá me han dado gracias a sus muchos años de experiencia en arquitectura, incluso los valores del trabajo duro y la consistencia que he visto en mi mamá en su ejemplo cotidiano , este árbol es la esencia de lo que soy. El proyecto en sí sirve como pieza central de decoración de mi casa. Inspira paz, tranquilidad y armonía a quienes la visitan y a quienes viven en el lugar.
hroughout the whole project there was a persistent factor that remained until the end, family. Family because home and domesticity, besides all the words they represent, are all basically a feeling my family provides. From the traditions I learned form my grandmothers applied to the technique, and the knowledge my grandfather and father have given me from their many years of experience in architecture, even the values of hard work and consistency I have seen in my mother in her everyday example, this tree is the essence of who I am. The project itself serves as a centerpiece decoration of my home and it does inspire peace, tranquility and harmony to those who visit and those who live there.
Sostenibilidad l propósito al crear esta lámpara era lograr poner en el mercado un objeto que tuviera tanto valor estético como económico. Esto quiere decir que se tomó en consideración el costo de la producción y las ganancias que esta generaría. De tal manera que la lámpara por sus características debía ser sostenible en un mercado de hoy en día. De igual manera tenia que ser atractiva para los consumidores y usuarios con sus exigencias. a luz de los siete mares es una lámpara mecedora para niños entre los siete y los diez años de edad. Esta inspirada en el movimiento de los barcos en el mar. Esta se mecerá cuando el niño la empuje y continuara balanceándose por un tiempo. La lámpara, sus colores y su movimiento son elementos que incitan la calma y la tranquilidad, buscan crear un ambiente en el que el niño se sienta seguro a la hora de dormir.
ight of the Seven Seas is a rocking lamp made for children between seven and ten years of age. Its inspiration comes from the movement of ships at sea. The lamp will rock when the child pushes it and continue swinging for a while. The light, colors and movement are factors that encourage calm and quiet, seeking to create an environment in which children feel secure when sleeping.
Sustainability The purpose in creating this lamp was to bring to the market an object that had both aesthetic and economic value. This meant taking into account the cost of production and profits this would generate. In such a way that the lamp’s characteristics should be sustainable in today’s market. In the same way it had to be attractive to consumers and users with their demands.
sta lámpara mas allá de tener un resultado final satisfactorio fue un proceso de aprendizaje muy enriquecedor. En un grupo de diez personas la comunicación y el trabajo en equipo equilibrado tiene muchos desbalances y dificultades. A pesar de lo anterior, creo que al estar enfrentado a retos como estos uno se mide como diseñador y como persona. Es claro que la actitud que se tome frente a este problema de comunicación y trabajo refleja como va uno a enfrentar los problemas más adelante. Lo importante es el aprendizaje y el proceso ha logrado dejar muchas enseñanzas. Las técnicas de producción, creación y de costos fueron de gran importancia durante todo el proceso y marcaron la diferencia en el éxito del producto final.
his lamp beyond having a very satisfying end result was a very enriching learning process. In a group of ten people communication and teamwork had inequities and difficulties. Despite this, I believe that being faced with challenges like these measures one as a designer and as a person. It is clear that the attitude to be taken before this problem of communication and team work reflects how one is to deal with problems later on. The important thing is learning and the process has left many lessons. The techniques of production, creation and cost were of great importance throughout the process and made a difference in the success of the final product.

Crear ste proyecto es el resultado de una experiencia de vacaciones en la cual un grupo de amigos nos unimos para ayudar a construir un jardín vertical. Desde cada perspectiva diferente y unidos por el interes en la belleza de la naturaleza surgió una idea de negocio. Una idea que ha evolucionado para convertirse en un proyecto que quiere darle a los usuarios una experiencia memorable en el momento de recibir su jardín. Nos diferenciamos porque nuestro propósito es explorar las posibilidades que un ambiente puede ofrecer a la naturaleza y lo que la naturaleza puede resaltar de él.
his project is the result of a vacation experience in which a group of friends united to help build a vertical garden. From each different perspective and joint by the interest in the beauty of nature, surged an idea of business. The idea has evolved into a project that pretends to give users a memorable experience in the process of having a garden. We differentiate ourselves because our purpose is to explore the possibilities an environment can offer to nature and what nature can highlight from it.

To create
or me to create is to be inspired from what surrounds us. Finding the beauty in the details of the environment and potentiate it in order to highlight it’s power. Using water as a source of communication in which it not only inspires those who enjoy it, plants and humans, but it tells a story of pureness and wellbeing that gives positive energy to those who appreciate it.
During the two projects we had the opportunity to work with an experienced landscaping office we gained more than we imagined. They inspired in us the love for plants and we benefited from their knowledge.
Tuvimos la oportunidad de trabajar con una oficina de paisajismo con experiencia, en dos proyectos. Ganamos mรกs de lo que imaginรกbamos. Inspiraron en nosotros el amor por las plantas y nos beneficiamos de su conocimiento.

En el taller de jardines tuvimos la oportunidad de con diferentes formas de crear jardines verticales. Aprendimos diversas t茅cnicas y estuvimos en pleno contacto con un . Sentimos la necesidad de difundir este conocimiento nuevo en nuestro medio ambiente. Nos de la sensaci贸n de que nos gener贸 un d铆a de trabajo con las plantas.
In the garden workshop we had the opportunity to with different ways of creating vertical gardens. We learned diverse techniques and were in complete contact with a . We felt the urge to spread this new in our environment. We fell in love with the feeling of pureness and after a day of work with plants.
applying knowledge a experiencia en el taller nos iluminó a querer crear nuestra propia empresa. Tuvimos varias reuniones entre los tres amigos, y quisimos juntar nuestros conocimientos en la diferentes áreas que estudiábamos, (arte, arquitectura y diseño). A partir de este, la idea fue crear un modelo de negocio para nuestra empresa que yo había visto en una clase de producto ese semestre. Con un poco de experiencia en los jardines que hicimos con Terreno Paisajismo y un ensayo que ya habíamos hecho, comenzamos a pensar qué queríamos de nuestra empresa. Teniendo en cuenta hacia dónde queríamos ir y en dónde estábamos parados en ese momento.
The workshop experience enlightened us to want to create our own company. We had several meetings between the three friends, pooling our expertise in different areas we studied, (art, architecture and design). We wanted to create a business model for our company from a model I saw in a product class. With a little experience in the gardens we did with Terreno Paisajismo and a test we had done, we began to think we wanted from our company. Taking into account where we wanted to go and where we stood.

ste jardín en el interior de una terraza bogotana fue una propuesta en el cual quisimos meterle color al ambiente. El pequeño refugio ya contaba con unas materas llenas de flores y plantas entonces los jardines verticales debían acomodarse a su espacio sin invadirlo para complementarlo balanceadamente..
his garden in the interior of a terrace in Bogotá was a proposal in which we wanted to bring color to the environment. The small shelter already had some pots full of flowers and plants, so the vertical gardens had to adapt to their space without invading it in order to complement it in a balanced manner..
l jardín delantero de esta casa en Bogotá había tenido muchos habitantes anteriores, incluyendo un caucho que había muerto hace cuatro meses. La dueña buscaba una solución a el hueco que el hermoso árbol había dejado. La casa del portero debía ser de alguna manera escondida sin interrumpir su vista y su capacidad de hacer su trabajo bien.
he front garden of this house in Bogotá had many former inhabitants, including a rubber tree that had died four months ago. The owner sought a solution to the gap that had left the beautiful tree. The gatekeeper’s house should be somehow hidden without interrupting his vision and ability to do his job well.

El dise単o del techo se basa en la necesidad de sombra que tiene la zona que le corresponde. The cieling desing is based on the need of shadow that the zone underneath it requires.

a propuesta para este jardín consistía en aprovechar la vista que tiene hacia las montanas. Sacarle provecho al verde enmarcándolo con mas verde. Así mismo las zonas determinadas por las sombras y luces que el techo iba a generar daban espacio para que las plantas tuvieran el aire libre. Esto dejaba que ellas recibieran lluvia natural reduciendo los costos de riego y dando una sensación de estar realmente dentro de ese bosque que se veía al frente.
he proposal for this garden consisted in taking advantage of the view it has towards the mountains. Take advantage of the green framing it with more green. The areas determined by the lights and shadows produced by the ceiling gave the opportunity for the plants to be out in the open. This permitted them to receive natural rain reducing irrigation costs and giving the atmosphere a feeling of being inside the forest you could see in front.

Isola es un restaurante bar de comida italiana, vida nocturna activa y un espacio tipo terraza al fondo sin ninguna gracia en especial. Este fue el espacio que debimos intervenir. Quisimos aprovechar la altura que no era descubierta desde la entrada para llamar la atención de los comensales. Darles, de alguna, manera una pista de que al acercarse descubrirían algo muy interesante al fondo.
Isola restaurant Isola is a restaurant-bar that offeres Italian food, an active nightlife and at the end of the shop a terrace-type space that had no magic. This was the space we were to intervene. We wanted to take advantage of the fact that the height of the space wasn’t obvious from the entrance, and use it to draw the guest’s attention. In some way give them a clue that if they came closer they would discover something very interesting at the end of the shop.

Inspirándonos en la forma en que el agua cae y como se recoge de los desagües con cadenas, queríamos buscar la forma de representar esto en el jardín para este restaurant. No solo con la forma en que las plantas estaban dispuestas si no con la forma en que estas recibirían el agua. Teniendo en cuenta que la altura iba a hacer un reto, quisimos crear una sensación de verticalidad que aportara al espacio de doble altura.
Inspired by the way the water falls through the chains in the drains, we wanted to find a way to represent this in the garden for this restaurant. Not only the way in which the plants were displayed but in the way these would receive water. Given that the height was going to be a challenge, we wanted to create a sense of verticality that complimented the double height space.
