Motivation letter
Dear IFMSA Family,

Three years ago, in the summer of 2019 I first came in contact with IFMSA as a participant in SCORA X-change Brazil. I was a clueless first year medical student, not knowing what I wanted to do with my career, but sure that I wanted to develop my skills in an intercultural environment, surrounded by hardworking and brilliant peers and to contribute and give back to the community of medical practitioners. Starting off in my second year of med school, I ended up attending the SCOPE-SCORE National Meeting by chance, solely as the local officers needed some more volunteers and I offered to go, even though my background in conducting exchanges was near to 0 back then. I remember I was so shy, scared to approach anyone in the national team, because I didn’t consider myself important enough to take from their time, so I was just being inspired by their work and remained silent, analysing everything. Returning to my LC, I joined the SCORE local team as LORE Assistant being so driven and excited, that within the first month I initiated 3 new projects and the first Global Action Project in my NMO.
My journey in SCORE continued rapidly. The call for the FASMR Romania delegation to the March Meeting 2020 in Rwanda was launched, and I applied, once again not having background on how GAs work as I come from a small LC not exposed to the international world. And I did it, I got selected. And I was the first person in my LC to ever attend a GA. With this opportunity I learned that guidance and inspiration are not always found right next to us. We need to explore, get out of our comfort zone and grow.
From MM20 on everything went rapidly, I applied for every opportunity in SCORE I could find, became the NORE of FASMR Romania a few months later, been part of sessions team three times, became part of the SCORE IT 21/22 and, now, here I am, presenting to you my motivation to become the SCORE Director 22/23, something my 3 years ago self would have thought is impossible to reach.
Through the years in IFMSA, one of the most important things I learned is that we, as medical students, as young medical professionals, have a voice that needs to be heard, we have the ambition and resources to make great achievements. Recently I was part of the delegation to the Youth Pre-WHA and WHA (World Health Assembly) in Geneva, May 2022. Being in contact with health ministers, WHO representatives and seeing their eagerness to listen to our questions, give kind and patient answers, encourage us, all was truly inspiring. In particular, the involvement of youth in research was brought up and it made me realise over again how crucial our role is in the development of the medical world and how SCORE is playing such an important role.
Working in SCORE for years now, going from a local to a national and international perspective, I have been capacitated to understand the work of SCORE, its strengths, weaknesses, to envision ways to improve each area SCORE focuses on, and to adapt in order to overcome difficult challenges. After this time of collecting knowledge, I find myself here, ready to give back to SCORE members by leading this standing committee.
If elected as SCORE Director 22/23, I will dedicate my time to the development of the standing committee, promotion of research and research education while ensuring that the SCORE IT works by the people for the people effectively, in a safe working environment.
Thank you for taking time to read my letter! If you have any questions or doubts regarding my candidature, you are always welcome to contact me!
