MOTIVATION LETTER
Dear IFMSA Dark Blue Family, Research is what makes the medical world move forward and with this phrase in mind, it is my honor to present my candidature for SCORE Supervising Board member. I am Maria Maties, 3rd year medical student from FASMR Romania, who started the SCORE journey one year ago because of falling in love with research. I attended numerous scientific events, but SCORE represented the perfect mechanism for teaching medical students the basis of research, offering the possibility of having a hands-on research experience and encourage publishing and sharing the research results. I was so motivated to work for my LC that within a month from the beginning of my term I introduced 3 new research projects, including the first Global Action Project in my NMO. I learned in such a short time how to properly fill in a project form, reach out to tutors, promote our exchanges and recruit the best researchers, and all of these only lead to creating great academic quality focused exchanges. As an SB member I could help and support our national and local officers improve the quality of our program by ensuring highly specific project forms, organising training sessions on recruiting tutors, filling in the relevant documents, including global heath in our exchanges an implementing the research outcomes. Having a meaningful contribution in all of these would make my SCORE journey more rewarding and valuable. After 4 months of working in my LC as an exchange officer, I took the opportunity to be one of the FASMR Romania delegates to the 69th IFMSA General Assembly in Rwanda as part of the SCORE sessions, which was an extremely important milestone for my development both personal and professional. I was amazed to find there such a beautiful blue family, all ready to work together to improve research exchanges for students worldwide. Returning to Romania, was so motivated to work for my NMO and even though the pandemic restricted travelling and exchanges were cancelled, I kept myself engaged in both national and international activities. I was part of a national exchanges promotion campaign, my main focus was to highlight the academic quality of our exchanges by involving our tutors in promoting our achievements. By attending numerous webinars, trainings and most importantly in the SCORE Academic Quality course I came to realise that my passion, knowledge and energy for SCORE can result in incredible outcomes. I have always been keen on intercultural learning, discovering traditions and getting to share amazing experiences with international people. I remember myself at 18 years old, when it was finally legal for me to travel alone, I packed my bags and went on a humanitarian volunteering trip in India. It was a life changing experience that taught me about selflessness and leadership, the key pillars for an exchange officer. Someone once told me "instead of analysing the ashes, keep the fire alive" so let's all keep our fire and motivation alive to create research opportunities for medical students around the globe.
Big Blue Hugs from the Land of Vampires, Maria MătieČ™
