Health care is essential to every human being. In this way, all the surrounding areas are targeted for investments and constant improvements to ensure the wellbeing of all. It’s based on the analysis of concepts such as hospital architecture, sustainability, comfort and quality, which verifies the importance of hospital projects, without forgetting its surrounding social-economic, territorial and natural resources. It’s proposed the creation of hospital modules, easily constructed and repeated in underprivileged areas of certain services of this nature. The final proposal has been conceived as being located in Brazil, choose which took account the fact that this is a developing country and that is promoting a policy of sustained health in order to improve the assistance to populations. In this way, the hospital modules is well integrated in a current and real context.

Analysis of concept The housing is divided into two floors: the first contains the social area with the living room, kitchen and other technical areas (machine room and toilet service) and in the second floor there’s a private area, where are the two bedrooms (one is a suite), a small library and a toilet. To be perceptible the differences between social and public area, two floors, despite obey the same structural metric, were displaced. The ground floor contains the living room which is the most important point of the house and so it “grows” beyond the main body. The top floor, the suite has the support areas, and therefore is less “heavy” in console, thereby creating an offset that establishing some dynamic in a simple volumetric housing.

This family house is located in Lisbon (Portugal), in an urban area where there are medium density, mostly single-family houses. Its implementation allows a generous distance throughout the neighborhood and thus turns into a shelter with a high level of privacy. Its orientation, from the entrace, is south. The land allows this approach and so it’s possible to get the most of natural light. The exterior/interior contact is constant and therefore the areas of course are always illuminated with glazed openings at the ends of hallways and staircase. The analysis to the thermal behavior and the sun exposure of the building is made through a simulation in the software Autodesk Ecotect Analysis (where the original design in set in 3D). Is through the obtained data, taht’s going to know what measures will be taken to change, or not, the elements of the project in order to improve its perfomance.

ORIGINAL PROJECT

REVIEWED PROJECT Some reviews to the original project 1 - The east and south facades are affected by a higher direct solar radiation and therefore should be reviewed in its constitution. The solution will be coating the walls with metal panels in order to make the walls in ventilated facades for a better air circulation. 2 - The “brise-soleil reduces part of the solar irradiation in a building. The construction needs to take much natural lighting such as blocking the glare caused by sunlight. 3 - The flap, extending the lighter slab, the span of the suite, solving the excess lighting/overheating during the summer.

4 - Incorporation of solar photovoltaic panels, which directly receive the sunlight and are used to turn the energy from this light into electrical energy. 5 - Incorporation of storm drains system, which will be utilized for residential use (discharge and watering vegetation). 6 - The heating of the house will be done by a geothermal system, placed at the bottom of the house and all the flat surfaces between the slab and the pavement. 7 - Considering natural, cultural and legal restrictions, is introduced vegetation in the surrounding space of the house, notably the portuguese oak and magnolia.

2nd floor / house

It was from the definition of an ideogram which represents the openings and enclosed spaces of an architectural object, that this housing project has been developed. Playing with gravity, openings and closings, this project combines the structure, functionality, choice of materials and the relationship with light. The open space to the environment that surrounds it, but at the sime time, closed within itself. Taking into account the ideogram, it was necessary to think about designing a house that wasn’t completely closed to the outside, but giving preference to its privacy. The ground floor, it lies intended to an art gallery (public space). On the upper floors, are then developed the houses (private space). The term “enlightenment” doesn’t expain itself. The ligths and shadows, of any architectural work, are well highlighted in this project, they tend to take up the task of producing different climates.

Project | MUNICIPAL MARKET OF AVEIRO year place customer

september - october 2012 Aveiro, Portugal Pedro Anjos | Sushi Kinjolas

The Fish Market of Aveiro is located in the town center and, at the moment, is only intended for its primary function: the sale of products of the city (particulary fish and seafood). The client owns a sushi restaurant and, at his request, the proposal is based on the implementation of a volume at the market center, with four stands. Each workbench is developed for selling different products, one for sushi, one for wine, one for tapas/snacks and one for sweets/desserts. The main idea of the project is the diversity, is to promote the use of this space by everyone, both for marketers as per customers. In order to maintain the plastic language of the space, the new volume of the stands remains red, and its construction is on a platform which is already in place.

THEATER

Project | CULTURAL CENTER School+Theater year place

05

march - june 2011 Covilha, Portugal

Aim: connecting two different levels of the city through the interior of the building. Main ideas: finding the intersection between the different elements, new and existing, in order to create a bigger relationship with the context of the proposed sites. Both programs, the School of Arts and the Theatre, are slipt into two buildings. One is directed to services, administration, etc... And the second one is therefore composed by the main functions of each: classrooms and apartments for teachers at the School of Arts; theater rooms, dressing rooms and movie theaters at the Theater. Both buildings are located in the city center of Covilh達. The theater occupies the place of the current theather, though somewhat abandoned, and the project of the School of Arts is located in the current Municipal Market.

The architecture writes the spaces through the light, which is the factor that eventually creates them. There are many types of light, and this can be truly affected when they are used for other elements. These factors, and many others, can provide some results between the light and the space surrounding it. Light is able to create a tension between the space and the human being, in order to place man in connection with the space created by him. Therefore, we can define two kinds of light: the external light (that models the volume) and the internal light (gives life to the spaces in-side ores). The concept that we intend to show, in this contest, is the relationship between these two types of light and their consequences. We seek to explain in the proposed volume the rotation that natural light does during the day with specific openings. Using light to reflect the life, among the main factors that are observed daily.

Workshop | BUILDING GREEN year place collaboration

07

september 2013 Mesendorf, Brasov, Roménia Arquitecta Silvia Demeter-Lowe János Nemet | Sr. Ronni Bing

The fifth edition of the workshop “Building green learning from the traditional architecture”, organized by the Association Transilvania SAT in collaboration with the Heritage Foundation and the Youth in Action Programme. Three teams from different nationalities: Portuguese, English (SPAB, Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, UK) and Romanian. There were various representations of natural architecture and it was possible to work in all activities: development and implementation of various bricks and mortar clay soil, building on various types of masonry (brick, stone, straw bales), wooden structures to achieve a wall of straw bales, preparation and application of interior and exterior plaster bases with lime or clay and traditional painting. And yet, the reconstruction of a stone driveway, where the Portuguese team showed the best qualities of traditional Portuguese architecture.
