Brook Point+Euro House Architect
Location: Whetstone, London, UK Developer:Private Type: Residential This project regards the conversion of an existing office building into a complex of 43 flats. The brief consisted in merging two independent buildings, making the internal changes to the layout and also the change of use of the building in terms of Planning permissions. I was involved in the tendering phase of the project, developing construction solutions, sourcing different materials and coordinating between the client, the contractor and the trades. In the final stage of the project, the tender was developed at the same time as the beginning of the demolition stage so it was necessary to find solutions that would suit the different problems that would come up during site work. This project now reaching completion.

Catherine Place Architect
Location: Westminster, London, UK Developer:Private Type: Residential
This project comprised the complete refurbishment of a four storey property in Westminster, London to become a single family residential house. I was involved from Concept to Completion, dicussing all the ideas with the clients, developing solutions and assisting the Architect in the Project Managment. The project involved extensive demolition works at the basement level, redeveloped to become the kitchen and dining area of the house. A utility room was also added at this level. In the ground floor the entrance hall opens to a large living area with a balcony over the rear lightwell. The top floors are reserved for the more private areas of the house: 4 bedrooms, 2 big ensuites, two family bathrooms and a study. Two rooflights bring light into the top floor bedroom and toilet. The property is finished with modern sanitaryware fittings and custom made wardrobes in all bedrooms. All photos ŠMariana Silva

Offices in Leamington Spa Architectural Assistant
Location: Royal Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, UK Developer:Private Type: Offices This project refers to the refurbishment of a four storey offices’ building in centre of Royal Leamington Spa. We were responsible for the coordination of works between all the trades as well as the development of the tender. The four storeys were turned into open space plans to bring flexibility for its occupants. All the services run along the ceiling, being concealed by large white squares of suspended ceilings that also improve the acoustics of the space. Together, the suspended ceiling, the linear lights and the extractor heads create a pattern that brings character to the space, whilst maintaining a low profile. All photos ŠMarina Carbone

House in Raynes Park Architect
Location: Raynes Park, London, UK Developer:Private Type: Residential This project comprised the complete refurbishment and extension of a three-storey house in the Southwest of London. I was involved from Concept to Completion, dicussing all the ideas with the clients, developing solutions and assisting the Architect in the Project Managment. The focus of the improvements was on adapting the existing dark kitchen and living room in the back of the house by merging them into one large living area and creating a visual link from the front door to the rear garden. The kitchen is now located in the former living area, opening directly into the luminous new extension with high ceilings, large rooflight and full-width external sliding doors that connect the interior with the rear raised patio and garden. One corner of the living space can be separated into a TV room by pulling out concealed sliding doors. On the first floor, the layout was improved to include two front bedrooms and a master bedroom suite with views over the rear garden. The loft was redesigned to include a rear dormer, new staircase, two bedrooms, shower room and higher ceilings. New rooflights bring light into the loft front spaces and into the stairwell. House in East Finchley Architect
Location: East Finchley, London, UK Developer:Private Type: Residential This project comprised the complete refurbishment of a two storey terraced house in East Finchley, with the addition of a single storey extension to the rear of the property. I was involved from Concept to Completion, dicussing all the ideas with the clients, developing solutions and assisting the Architect in the Project Managment. At the ground floor level, the dividing wall between the front and rear living room was removed to create a big open living area with direct access to the garden. The existing kitchen at the rear of the property was extended and included bifold doors that open directly into the garden. This created a luminous kitchen/ living room open plan, central area of this family house. The brief also included the renovation of the entire first floor, bedrooms and family bathroom. A couple of new rooflights were installed to bring light into this floor, mainly in the landing and in the daughter’s bedroom. The master bedroom faces the main street and includes bespoke new wardrobes and wooden shutters to filter the light coming from the three big windows. All the details were thought to be in accordance with and enhance the period of the property, like the addition of picture rails to the existing main spaces and Victorian tiles to the Entrance Hall. Personal exercises Residential Masterplanning
Type: Urban Design + Architecture The brief was to develop a residential sector of a wider masterplan in a live project being developed in the UK. General guidelines about design, materials and the sector shape were given. This proposal had three main goals: - Keep a strong visual and physical connection to the close natural valley; - Separate social flows: the residential from the main street traffic from the nearby mixed use sector; - Create public, quiet and more intimate spaces in the heart of the three blocks. To achieve this, the built form of the housing had to be explored, to know how houses would spread throughout the site, therefore to know where this new public spaces would go. Three gardens were designed to accomodate new ammenties as a dog park and a children’s playground. This page contains some of the output developed on the exercise.

In the following pages you can see some of the photographic work I’ve been developing while wandering around in the recent years. I´ve always been mesmerised by the way light behaves around the built environment and the way it is captured and changed through the lens.
