EL CORONAVIRUS surge en medio de una destrucción masiva del medio ambiente. La destrucción de los ecosistemas es el primer paso hacia las pandemias.
En el año 1985, el entomólogo, biólogo y humanista Edward O. Wilson definió por primera vez el término biodiversidad:
“La biodiversidad o diversidad biológica se refiere a toda la variedad de vida en el planeta. Ésta se refiere a la gran gama de animales y plantas, al lugar donde viven y a los ambientes que los rodean en todo el mundo.”
El mismo autor introdujo en 1988 el concepto de biofilia, el cual se refiere al sufrimiento del ser humano por la destrucción que causa en el planeta.
La Unión Internacional para la Conservación de la Naturaleza (UICN) alertó en 2019 que 28 MIL especies están en peligro de extinción.
La conclusión de la ONU y diversos expertos, humanistas y observadores de la interacción humana con la naturaleza es que la única forma de revertir esta tendencia es cambiar la forma en la que nos hemos venido relacionando con nuestro entorno y con la naturaleza misma.
En este sentido, debemos poner la atención en la creciente hegemonía cultural, que es descrita como un proceso en el cual la cultura del más fuerte invade a otras manifestaciones, imponiendo sus propios procesos y decisiones como la única forma de interactuar con el medio ambiente, con otras especies, con el ser humano y el planeta en general.

No podemos ser indiferentes al dolor y a los problemas de los demás, en ninguna parte del mundo.
Los carteles que se preocupan por otros son importantes para mí. Y noté que su lema es el mismo.
Soy un artista gráfico y es un honor para mí ser incluido en esta colección y compartir mi imagen y mi mensaje con el apoyo del pueblo de Ucrania y anti-guerra.
Mi compromiso con las artes gráficas es utilizar el lenguaje universal del dibujo para poder llevar mi mensaje al mayor número de personas posible. Estoy muy contento de haber sido seleccionado entre tantos trabajos de alto nivel presentados en Raíces 2022, más aún porque es un concurso con un tema tan fundamental para la cultura y las artes latinoamericanas.

I am glad that the declared theme of the competition “Roots” coincided with my inner worries. Now, after the protest events of 2020, it is more important than ever for Belarus to identify itself as an independent country with a full-fledged and unique culture and traditions. And it is very important that when people hear about Belarus, they imagine it as such. This is valuable for me as a Belarusian person.

My path as a graphic designer has been winding and suprising. When I first turned passion into my profession, several years ago, I would never have imagined that I would return to my home town Starogard Gdański, much less be inspired by it. And yet, here we are. The stories and legends of my little town – those discovered, as well as those created by me – are finally supported by their visual representations and for me, it was extremely important. All the more so, it feels really good to be selected for the 11th edition of the international poster contest Raíces and show them to the world.

While creating this piece I was going through a major art block and had have lost nearly all of my motivation and passion for art in general. In the last couple of months, my love for art started blossoming again. As of today, being presented with this opportunity, has helped me declare that art is definitely an essential part of my life, that’s worth my time and effort. I encourage my fellow young artists to keep looking for ways to keep the fire inside of them alive.

That my work has been selected meant for me an opportunity to give back to the Son Veracruzano a little of what has been given to me and my family in all this time that we have been practicing it. I sincerely hope that the voices of an entire region will be heard loud through this graphic representation. It is also a unique experience and an honor to be part of this great selection. Me alegro de que el tema declarado de la competencia “Raíces” coincidió con mis preocupaciones internas. Ahora, después de los acontecimientos de protesta de 2020, es más importante que nunca que Belarús se identifique como un país independiente con una cultura y tradiciones únicas y de pleno derecho. Y es muy importante que cuando la gente escuche sobre Bielorrusia, lo imaginen como tal. Esto es valioso para mí como persona de Bielorrusa.
Mi camino como diseñadora gráfica ha sido sinuoso y sorprendente. Cuando convertí por primera vez la pasión en mi profesión, hace varios años, nunca hubiera imaginado que volvería a mi ciudad natal, Starogard Gdański, y mucho menos que me inspiraría en ella. Y sin embargo, aquí estamos. Las historias y leyendas de mi pequeña ciudad - las descubiertas, así como las creadas por mí - finalmente son apoyadas por sus representaciones visuales y para mí, fue extremadamente importante. Aún más, es muy agradable ser seleccionado para la 11a edición del concurso internacional de carteles Raíces y mostrarlos al mundo.
Mientras creaba esta pieza estaba pasando por un bloque de arte importante y había perdido casi toda mi motivación y pasión por el arte en general. En el último par de meses, mi amor por el arte comenzó a florecer de nuevo. Desde hoy, al presentarme esta oportunidad, me ha ayudado a declarar que el arte es definitivamente una parte esencial de mi vida, que vale mi tiempo y esfuerzo. Animo a mis compañeros artistas jóvenes a seguir buscando formas de mantener vivo el fuego dentro de ellos.
Que mi trabajo haya sido seleccionado, para mí significó una oportunidad de devolverle al Son Veracruzano un poco de lo que nos ha dado a mí y a mi familia en todo este tiempo que lo venimos practicando. Espero de todo corazón que las voces de toda una región se escuchen alto a través de esta representación gráfica. Así mismo, es una experiencia única y un honor poder formar parte de esta gran selección. Me siento muy contento.

The theme, “Roots” is important especially when we witness the suffering and chaos taking place in so many countries including here in America. Looking at the final selections I see many of my extremely talented friends and colleagues, I know they share the same global concerns. Let us hope the collection of posters soon to be on display and documented book form will generate a call to action no matter how large or small. To me as a Polish, Copenhagen-based graphic designer and illustrator this year’s contest’s theme “Roots” felt very personal. In my work, I wanted to show that all the cultures and traditions we know, and all objects we consider to originate from certain places and times, these were all inspired by something that happened before. If we could trace all of these influences back, we would find out that despite we can be living in different places, speaking different languages, and having different skin colors, we are not that different after all.
This is the first international contest that I have ever sent an admission to, therefore I am extremely grateful that my work had been selected.
Me siento muy contento de ser parte de esta exposición el tema me gusto mucho, siempre me ha gustado que por medio del cartel podamos dar un mensaje positivo y que temas tan importantes puedan ser desarrollados y la gente los pueda ver, y este concurso es algo muy bueno porque llega a mucha gente y esos mensajes se escuchan.
Los carteles son la voz de mi conciencia”, me siento honrado de haber sido seleccionado para su inclusión en esta importante exposición. El tema, “Raíces” es importante especialmente cuando presenciamos el sufrimiento y el caos que tienen lugar en tantos países, incluyendo aquí en Estados Unidos. Mirando las selecciones finales veo a muchos de mis amigos y colegas extremadamente talentosos, sé que comparten las mismas preocupaciones globales. Esperemos que la colección de carteles que pronto estará en exhibición y forma de libro documentado genere un llamado a la acción sin importar cuán grande o pequeño sea. Gracias a los administradores de la exposición y a los trabajadores dedicados.
Para mí, como diseñadora gráfica e ilustradora polaca con sede en Copenhague, el tema del concurso de este año “Roots” me pareció muy personal. En mi trabajo, quería mostrar que todas las culturas y tradiciones que conocemos, y todos los objetos que consideramos que se originan de ciertos lugares y tiempos, todos ellos fueron inspirados por algo que sucedió antes. Si pudiéramos rastrear todas estas influencias, descubriríamos que a pesar de que podemos estar viviendo en diferentes lugares, hablando diferentes idiomas y teniendo diferentes colores de piel, no somos tan diferentes después de todo.
Este es el primer concurso internacional al que he enviado una admisión, por lo que estoy muy agradecido de que mi trabajo haya sido seleccionado.
