Dear Members, I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. As 2013 comes to close, we have lots to be thankful for at Hammock Beach. We’ve been fortunate to complete the renovation of our award-winning Conservatory Course, host the Titan Invitational boys’ golf tournament as well as the annual Special Olympic Flagler golf invitational. December brings us numerous activities to celebrate the holidays as well as the end of a great year. Enjoy breakfast with Santa on December 7 in the Atlantic Grille, gingerbread house decorating or Christmas dinner at Delfinos. Choose from several celebrations to ring in the New Year, including a New Year’s Eve gala featuring live entertainment and a champagne toast. For more information about our holiday happenings at Hammock Beach, please contact your membership office. Our public relations team has also been hard at work getting the coverage for Hammock Beach and our sister properties. STATE OF THE CLUB L E T T E R Dear Club Members: With the end of 2013 just around the corner, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the many activities, accomplishments, enhancements and initiatives that took place this year at the Club. We thought it was important to share these items with you as many of these actions were as a result of the Advisory Board of Governors and member feedback. Membership: • Improved member retention compared to last year. The introduction of the Recallable Exchange Program has played a significant role in member retention. • 2013 Member Survey results indicated improvements over last year’s results in most areas. • New membership category – Conservatory Golf – launched a year ago has seen steady growth. • Increased promotion of our Member Referral Program and Realtor Referral Program has been successful as these programs are now our leading sources for new members. • “New Member” announcements are communicated via email to ABOG and Management teams to create more awareness and introduce new members. • Improvements made to our Ambassador Program with the communication of the “New Member” announcements along with an Annual Membership Drive golf tournament, pairing a member Ambassador in a round of golf with potential new members. • Organized, with the assistance of the ABOG, a variety of successful member events – Elvis Valentine Dinner Dance, Singing Servers & Quatro Four Divo, Casino Night, Sports Day, Mo-Town Magic, Linda Cole w/Bill Doyle Quartet and a series of holiday events. • Coordinated a successful 7th Annual Ladies Health & Beauty Retreat, hosted at Hammock Beach. • Coordinated, with the assistance of the ABOG and other resident Members – the 4th Annual Member Homecoming Weekend – encouraging non-resident members to visit. • Reciprocity program with Innisbrook Resort, Reunion Resort and Salamander Resort & Spa launched. • Member website improvements – Member Directory feature, Testimonial Section, Remember member # for log in convenience, Archiving of Spa & Fitness Touchpoints, Filtering icons on Member Event calendar, Expansion of many sections on almost all pages.
• Criteria developed and issued to existing memberships in an LLC to ensure compliance that the legal entity was not formed solely for the purpose of entering into a Club membership. • List of Member Concierge Service descriptions created and posted on member website Retail Merchandise: • Special “At Cost/below cost” golf apparel sales, based on inventory levels, at the Ocean Golf shop and included merchandise from ALL retail outlets. • Discount coupons for the Ladies and Men’s Golf Associations season opening and closing days - providing combined discount values up to 35% off all golf shop merchandise at both courses. • Christmas Secret Sale in Ocean Golf Shop, Conservatory & Breezes Boutique in the Lobby offering member discounts up to 70% off. • Special orders on available merchandise. • Wide range of golf brands carried in golf shops, including Nike, Adidas, Taylor Made, FootJoy/Titleist, Oakley, Cutter & Buck, Bobby Jones, Peter Millar, Donald Ross, Sligo, Kartel, Tail, Nivo, Daily Sport JoFit, Antigua, Ahead, Pukka, Annika, • Additional member discount offered off MAP pricing ((Minimum Advertised Price) on new current golf club equipment purchases. • Special golf tournament merchandise shopping sprees and tee gifts • Breezes Boutique is ALWAYS changing with seasonal merchandise offerings!! Golf Operations: • Regrassed the greens at the Conservatory from a Tift Eagle surface to a Platinum Paspalum grass. The project took 3 months to accomplish at a cost of $105,000. • Repaired many of the greenside bunkers on the Ocean Course. Holes #6, #7, #9, #12, #14, #16, #17 and #18 were completely reshaped and new sand added. Total cost was approximately $100,000. • Hired Steve Sorrell to replace Ron Baker as Golf Course Superintendant.
3
• Form member sub committees for each of our golf tournaments in order to give constructive feed back to the organization of the event. These member sub committees have been very instrumental in selecting menus for our golf events. • Purchased 2 new fairway mowers for the Ocean Course. • Mole cricket activity was very active this year with the warmer winter, extra applications were required to eradicate this insect. • Re-rate the handicaps to the holes on the Blue/White combo tees for the Ocean Course and re-analyze the ladies handicap holes on both golf courses. • Added the Blue/White combo tees to our scorecard. • Instituted a $10 per month bag storage only fee. • Repaired many of the Conservatory bunkers that were damaged during storms in 2012 and this year. • Drainage was fixed in the green side bunker of the 10th hole, Ocean Course. • Added more couples twilight events. • New format for the Coquina Cup was developed. The event is now a combined member member event between Hammock Dunes and Hammock Beach. • Removal of plant material that has grown over the cart path edges to include the Brazilian Pepper plants. • Added 3 drive up areas for better access to the 13th fairway on the Conservatory. • A fence was installed on the south side of the 8th hole along Cinnamon Beach. • We used both golf courses simultaneously to meet the increased demands in the Member Member golf tournament. This help alleviate the compaction and had a nice affect on pace of play. • We reinstated the locker room attendant position for the Conservatory. • The Ocean Course did not overseed the fairways this year and concentrated on spraying out the poa anna that had developed over the years. • Resodded areas along the cart paths on holes 1-6 for the Ocean Course.
• The tree on the right side of the 7th hole on the Ocean Course was trimmed up to help the tee shot for the ladies. • Hosted the North Florida PGA section championship on the Ocean Course. This event attracted the club professionals from all of north Florida, giving us great exposure. HOMECOMING W E E K E N D
HOMECOMING W E E K E N D Homecoming Weekend 2013 was a resounding success, providing members with a memorable weekend and a great variety of events. As hoped for, the weekend encouraged more nonresidents to come “home and enjoy the Club. Over 30% of the members participating were non-resident members. From the Friday night Kick Off Party to the Saturday tennis events, Member Games on the Champions Event Lawn and the Rolling Stones Tribute Band Concert, as well as the Sunday Brunch and Member Golf Scramble - all events were designed with the member in mind. If you attended, thank you for participating. If you missed it, be sure to plan for next year!

(YOUR NAME HERE) Care by Thor Holm, Director of Spa, Recreation & Fitness
& WELLNE S S
You do not have to be the President of the United States to have your very own affordable health care act! With Thanksgiving behind us and hopefully not leaving our behinds more behind, there is no better time to take stock in the best gift we can give one another, good health. Anyone who knows me knows that I am for lack of a better word, frugal. Growing up in a family of 13 with parents that grew up during the depression I never had a chance to be any other way and I am thankful for those lessons. We have a responsibility to the ones we love and ourselves to commit to living a healthy lifestyle. Movement is the key, if each of us committed to moving ½ hour a day more than last year the effect on our healthcare costs would be staggering. I don’t know about you but I do not want to spend a penny more than I have to for insurance. So here is your opportunity to sign up for (Your Name Here) Care. Fill in the following and you will automatically be enrolled, prior history will not limit your plan. I will commit to moving 30 minutes more per day than I did last year. I will commit to eliminating as much sugar and artificial sweeteners from my diet. I will stretch every day after I move. I will get 8 hours of sleep. I will wear my seat belt whenever I am in a car. SHAG LESSONS! Four-week Program Beginning Thursday, January 16 Classes held every Thursday through February 6
6:30pm-8pm l Aerobics Studio Our very own Members Instructing the Classes, Paul Sowell and Candy Alderman Shag dancing is a couple’s dance, an offshoot of swing, specifically postwar styles like the Lindy Hop and East Coast Swing. Unlike either, however, shag is “slotted” – that is, moving in essentially a straight line – and keeps the footwork close to the ground and the upper body movements to a minimum. One of the reasons the dance is so popular is that you can dance it to many types and tempos of music – blues, country, pop and even hip hop. This makes it perfect for weddings, cruises, resort dances, etc. Leather soled shoes are the best for dancing on wood floors. Should you not have leather soled shoes we will ask you to dance in your socks. Classes complimentary for Members $10 per Class (plus tax) for Guests Space is limited to the first 12 couples who sign up RSVP to 888.252.6294 or hbmembership@hammockbeach.com
