The BTEC Level 2 Diploma Art & Design is a one year programme that consists of six core (compulsory) units plus three specialist units. This is a unit based course that enables the learner to experience a range of core skills at level two. All coursework produced is assessed throughout the year enabling the learner to build up their Art & Design Portfolio.
Through specialist project briefs, you will be encouraged to explore a range of disciplines, materials and techniques that develops your creative skills. In addition to practical workshop sessions you will be taught contextual studies and Functional Skills; English and ICT.
The structure of the programme is broken down in to three terms. Term one consists of 2 projects whereby students are introduced to specialist areas to gain an understanding of different materials, processes and techniques; these include Print, Graphics, Drawing, Fashion and Fine Art. The final term consists of students completing a Final Major Project (FMP) for which you generate and submit a project proposal outlining your intentions for the final outcome.

Assessment Information
Assessment will be through coursework portfolio and written assignments. All units are graded and an overall grade is awarded for the qualification.
Tutorial Arrangements
Tutorials are an integral part of your learning at Barnet and Southgate College and are delivered in two ways; Individual & Group Tutorial.
Each learner is assigned a Personal Tutor and receives two Individual (1:1) Tutorials per term. The Personal Tutor is responsible for monitoring your progress on the course, providing guidance & advice and will help you set targets to achieve your goals. Group Tutorial takes place on a weekly basis and is a forum where the group come together to discuss course related issues, themes and topics and take part in practical activities relevant to their studies.
Progression
On completion of the course learners have the opportunity to progress onto any of our National Diploma courses, training or employment.

What is Expected of me? You must participate fully on the course; you will have work to do both in and out of the classroom (homework tasks and personal research). Your attendance must be at least 80% over the year but it is advisable not to miss any lessons. You must Phone the centre office if you cannot make a lesson. You must be on time for lessons as lateness disrupts the class and is not fair on the others in the group.
