EQUILIBRIUM INTERIOR CMF FOR INDIAN COMPACT SEDAN IN 2018 This project started with a thorough research on CMF trends that prevailed in Indian sedans over time, an analysis on lifestyle trends, desires and aspirations of the target customer in coming up with CMF suggestions for an Indian compact sedan for Maruti Suzuki for the year 2018. The concept building and design development revolved around ‘Equilibrium’ a concept that took shape after research the phase. It is a scenario where there is constant strive for the coexistence of extreme opposites in creating an exciting experience for a sense of visual balance. Extreme care had to be taken in making sure that developments were a synthesis of the brand aesthetics and aspirations of the target consumer in this segment. This project completed in August 2013 at Maruti Suzuki India Private Limited, Gurgaon.

DEVELOPMENT OF COLOR SCHEMES

COLOR BLOCKING PROCESS • Alcohol markers were user to explore various colour combinations initially. • These developed colours were blocked on to a vehicle interior of similar category to analyse how these colours and finishes interacted with each other. • Two final colour schemes among the developed colours were selected based on research,aesthetics and benchmarking studies. • Accent finishes were then used accordingly so that they match with the rest of the interiors.

FABRIC DEVELOPMENT PROCESS • Doodles were made initially taking cues from reference images. • These doodles were then repeated in such a way that they formed patterns keeping in mind the interior scheme and the segment for which the vehicle which had to be made for. • CAD options of these patterns were made on adobe illustrator software in the required colour scheme and then sent to vendors for further development of fabric swatches.

FABRIC DEVELOPMENTS

• From the patterns made the ones best suited for the seat trim, keeping in mind the benchmarking studies and segment were segregated. • They were then recreated in Adobe Illustrator in the required colours to match with rest of the interiors and accent scheme. • The CADs were then developed into fabric on jacquard looms. The yarns used for weaving were 100% polyester yarns.

SUPER SYNTHETICS PERISHABLE PACKAGING This project aims to explore ecological alternatives to short-lived synthetic everyday objects which, rather than taking several thousand years degrade as soon as their purpose is over, re-balancing use with life-span. Disposal and manufacturing of synthetic objects that we use sometimes just for seconds take many thousands of years to break-down and also leach dangerous chemicals into the environment. These chemicals are highly unsustainable and dangerous for us and the wider environment. Re-designing a plastic drinking cup, so that it degrades in less than an hour would not only divert thousands of tons of plastic from going to landfill every year but also far more efficient and environmentally friendly. This was a graduation project in MA Material futures at Central Saint Martins, London completed in July 2017.

Every-day objects like milk jar [500 ml] that lasted for 2 days, water bottle [500 ml] that lasts for 3 hours, pint glass that would last for 45 minutes and a shot glass that lasted for 45 seconds were developed.

FUTURE RAW HEALING AID FROM SPIDER SILK Spider silk, a material produced from the abdomen of a spider is considered to be one of the toughest and strongest natural material with great haemostatic and antiseptic properties. It was materialised by ancient Greeks for dressing wounds. Procuring spider silk is extremely complex as spiders need to be framed individually. This project looks at a speculative spider farm, powered by drones to heal wounds. The farm senses the location where the user is and travels to the location initiating the healing process. This project was completed in December 2015 as part of first-year coursework in MA Material Futures at Central Saint Martins, London.

EXPLORING MATERIAL PROPERTIES


PROCESS • The farm, with the help of a drone travels to the destination of the injured person. • It then senses the area of the wound and releases silk on the wound. • The silk brings together the wounded parts and creates a transparent film over the skin cementing the injury.

This spider farm powered by drones consists of genetically modified spiders under controlled conditions that produce silk. Once a call is placed from your device the drone senses the location of the injured person and initiates the healing process.


NANOPATHY CAN FUTURE SURGERY BE AS SIMPLE AS SIPPING A COCKTAIL? Nanopathy is a speculative scenario of an emerging treatment method where molecules are programmed to treat various illnesses and organ transplants while sipping your cocktail and watch the movement of these programmed nanobots inside your body. The powers of nanotechnology have enabled us to alter changes at molecular levels. With recent developments in molecular programming, what if we could preprogram molecules in targeting only those cells that are damaged? Can we programme molecules to grow organs within our body? This was a performance project developed over a span of three weeks as part of first-year coursework in MA Material Futures on February 2016 at Central Saint Martins, London.

These images are part of the explorations created to simulate various movements of programmed molecules through the bloodstream. These molecules target damaged cells only and repair them or come together to help in the formation of organs depending on the role they are programmed to perform once the drug is taken.

A SCENE RECREATED FROM THE PEFORMANCE

PROCESS • Once your illness is diagnosed, you are given a cocktail drug that has to be taken as suggested by your medical practitioner. • The drug will contain a set of programmed molecules that will travel through your bloodstream to reach parts affected by illness with the help of nanobots. • The healthy molecules now take the position of the unhealthy ones, dissolving the unhealthy. In case of transplants, the programmed molecules travel to the area where the organ needs to be replaced and the molecules build themselves up in forming healthy organs. • Bio-engineers, computer engineers, molecular biologists, synthetic biologist work together researching on various diseases, cell and DNA structures and work to come up with the most appropriate drug.


FABRIC CONSTRUCTION A JOURNEY THROUGH ARCHITECTURAL MARVELS The six hundred year old walled town of Ahmedabad still stands as an astonishing example for its architectural heritage. Age old architectural marvels of Gujarati, Mughal, Maratha, English and Persian influences have been unveiled outside houses of the pols (self contained neighbourhood). Ornate temples with fascinating wooden carvings hidden under plain exteriors, lanes punctuated with intriguing chabutras (bird feeders). Their beauty truly leaves you spellbound. This project was an attempt to evoke the feel of these architectural marvels thorough textiles after a through study of the existing remains from these ancient architectural marvels. This was a classroom project completed in November 2012 at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, India.

Creating rhythms through weaving with coarser yarns, heat setting fabrics and stitching techniques like chording.


TEMPLE HOTEL TEXTILES FOR FURNISHING A six-hundred-year-old temple that has been converted into a hotel. It includes ancient halls of worship, former living quarters of prominent Buddhist figures, civilian buildings after the formation of the People’s Republic of China and slogans rallying the Chinese people during the cultural revolution. This project involved fabrics and upholstery for the predesigned bamboo furniture pieces. The language of the interiors and of the furniture pieces had to be kept in mind while creating upholstery for the furniture pieces. This project was completed in July 2012 as part of an internship at a furniture design studio, Sangaru Design Objects Private Limited, Bangalore, India.
