Green Living Community Mall Location: Tunjungan, Surabaya Category: Academic project

PE D EST RIAN ORIEN TED, OPE N-AIR COM M UN AL SPACE Green Living, the theme of this design, means a lifestyle that strives to balance nature with culture and human community. The concept of this design is to design a green open mall for the local community to sell, gather, and interact. The existence of open communal spaces that connect the outer space with the inner space of the mall makes people still able to doV activities in an active, comfortable, and green outdoor space even though it is located in a crowded city center. This mall was designed with a pedestrian oriented concept, supported by its location on Jalan Tunjungan as a heritage area for tourism and commercial destinations of the golden triangle in the city of Surabaya, which is famous for its cultural motto “Mlaku-mlaku nang Tunjungan”.

A N GK LUN G, LO CA L A RTS O F W EST JAVA Located on a “mediapolis” area, this hotel facade design is inspired by “angklung” as the handicrafts of the local people of West Java. Due to its strategic location, at the center of the city, this business hotel focus up to promote creative industry of “angklung” by providing media and spaces to introducing angklung widely to the community. The important thing in designing a business hotel in the city center is the effectiveness. To achieve this goal, Leung Hotel is designed in such a way that the form, space, structure and utility systems are integrated with each other.

Bumi Rai Raka Prefab Modular Housing Location: Braga, Bandung Category: Competition

T HIN BOUNDARY BETWEEN PR IVAT E & P UBLIC RAI RAKA in Sundanese language means very close brotherly relationship as siblings. A relatively small house prototype that can accommodate two families without the compromise of living quality. Small but versatile. To respond the issue of the fading value of togetherness and kinship in modern houses that are more individualistic, this prefab modular housing prototype, Bumi Rai Raka, tries to elevate the principle: Thin Boundary Between Private and Public. Rather than seeinng it as an individual housing unit, the design consider all of the units as one whole that interacts with each other. Encouraging interactions between units, the design aims to create a lively and highly sociable environment. Every “Micro Cluster” is provided with “Tepas Kamitran” that means partnership terrace in Sundanese language. This terrace can be used as an open space for communal activity between four families that live in two neighbouring units.

MODULES Every dimension of the buildings are decided with the materials module sizes in mind. Using these prefabrication modular materials, this house prototype can be easily built faster and cheaper. Each structural module is connected with nuts and bolts so that it can be disassembled to turn a 1-story house into a 2-story house.

Anter-Anter Coffee Shop Location: Blok M, Jakarta Selatan Category: Competition
Area: 1000 m2 Year: 2021

SLOWING DOW N T HE FAST-PACED LIFES T Y LEv v Anter-anter in Betawi language means slowly. The coffee shop is designed in response to the fast paced lifestyle surrounding the area, which tends to make people live their life in a hurry an thus not enjoying every moment of it. Through a series of spatial arrangements, encouraging visitors to move through the sequence that gradually slows them down until finally they can stop and enjoy the present moment, accompanied by dense foliage of greeneries.
A S EQUEN CE TO STILLNESS The front facade of the ground floor as the entrance is designed to blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, inviting pedestrians to enter. The visitors will be greeted by an open kitchen and also outdoor sitting areas. The open space on the ground floor that blend in with the outside uproarious atmosphere creates a “moving” or dynamic ambience. The sequence is followed by ramp to get to the more secluded place on the top floor. Here, visitors are greeted by foliage greeneries that gets denser as they go up the ramp, building a calm ambience. The indoor seating area at the top floor that shrouded in a facade of foliage provides sense of stillness, away from outside distractions.

NE W NORM AL ADAPTAT I O N Mostly activities can be done in the outdoor space. This design is to respond to the current pandemic situations. For the indoor space, breathable facade is used to maintain good air circulation. The spatial design by sequences aims to prevent people from gathering in one place.
