The Oxford dictionary defines philanthropy as “love for humanity in general and benevolence especially” or “a gift made by someone who has nothing left to give.” The word comes from the ancient Greek word “philanthrōpos,” which means friend or lover of humankind. A philanthrōpist is someone who gives away their resources for exemplary purposes to help humanity.
