SUNSHINE
CHANGING MEDIUMS - JEREMY KRUCKEL Sunshine Art Spaces Gallery, 2 City Place, Sunshine
The exhibition of Changing Mediums reflects Jeremy’s practice shift over the past year from a concentration of stills to video media. This highlights how he has had to adjust to suit the changing mediums of landscape prints to square images on social media, to time lapse photography projected on buildings. Continually being challenged by technical limitations, Jeremy’s solutions have put his work on the technical edge of conventional photography. Changing Mediums takes the audience on a journey though one year of his practice, motivating them to see the world less explored, to go to these locations and see these sites for themselves. 7 Sept–17 Oct, 7–10pm FREE

WEST FOOTSCRAY
SEW SUBURB-BANAL - JESSIE DEANE Post Industrial Design, 638 Barkly Street, West Footscray
This work, rendered in needlepoint, pays homage to Melbourne’s west. Suburbia is often seen as “banal” and “boring”, but this work will highlight the beauty in the banality of these fading social landscapes. Deane takes the mundane flatness of the subjects and breathes new life into these gems in the most surprising of ways. Deane’s work evokes feelings of memory and connection, both through the medium and the imagery which reminds people to look more closely at the landscape in which they live. At the same time, audience members are drawn into the photo realistic stitched images to take a closer look at the technique, often surprised that the work is, in fact, textile. 11–15, 18–22, 25–29 Sept, 9am–5.30pm 16, 23, 30 Sept, 9am–3pm FREE #fringewestside

HAVE YOU TRIED YOGA?
Footscray Community Arts Centre, 45 Moreland Street, Footscray
Bluestone Church Arts Space, 8A Hyde Street, Footscray
Mae Paner, popularly known as comedian Juana Change, performs four monologues that render different perspectives on drug-related killings in Rodrigo Duterte’s Philippines. A zumba instructor haunted by ghosts; a photographer whose sanity is questioned by his employer; the apparent double life of a policeman; and a young girl paying tribute to victims buried in the Tokhang Wall.
Created from verbatim interviews and shaped with music, physical theatre, and passive aggression, this ****½ star ‘gem of a production’ (Adelaide Theatre Guide) explores what it’s like being disabled when surrounded by empty gestures, echoing platitudes and wannabe heroes. Have you tried yoga? is one part autobiographical, nine parts necessary. “Real and Raw” - ABC Radio (60 mins) M
