Visual Communications

Concept Logo (2012) - 4 x 5 A creative abstract logo developed to express an origami type style. It expresses design as being creative, yet functional, being both abstract and concrete to express the fine arts and design sides of the Visual Communications program.

Christmas Packaging

Gift Card Box (2011) - 3 x 5 A Holiday themed container intended to store gift cards or other small objects for gifts. When assembled, it takes on a flatbottomed diamond shape that gives that packaging a unique look and also keeps the top of the box shut.

Fukuda Shigeo

Hypothetical Poster Exhibition (2012) - 20” x 42” The city of Medicine Hat, located in South-Eastern Alberta, is known as ‘The Gas City’, and as such uses a gas lantern as its logo. Paying tribute to Fukuda Shigeo’s talent at creating impossible objects, the impossible lantern plays with perspective and illusion to showcase Fukuda’s unique style in an imaginary poster exhibition.

A Guide To Graphic Design

Hypothetical Book Cover Design (2012) - 8.5 x 17.25 I was challenged to design a book cover that expressed a stepby-step process to understanding graphic design. My idea took geometric shapes and started on the back cover, the shapes becoming larger and multiplying as they moved toward the right side of the front cover, growing, from step one to the final size.

Let’s Connect Design Thinkers 2011

Redesigned Invitational Envelope (2011) - 8” x 9” Challenged to create an imaginative, grid based invitation; I produced a unique solution using an interactive ‘connection’ on the front cover, and a two-direction grid on the inside.

Throw to Catch

Conceptual Typography (2010) - 10” x 4” I took two action words and creatively displayed their meaning, using only the word itself. Throw, thus, is throwing the O, so that the word catch, can catch it.

Ambiguous

Charcoal Drawing (2011) - 18” x 25” The purpose of this image is to display ambiguous space. It is sometimes difficult to tell where one object begins and the other ends. I chose imagery that normally isn’t associated with each other, in order to really play with the ‘unknown’ that the ambiguous space creates.

Pop Gaming

Pen and Marker Drawing (2010) - 12 x 22 I chose to display a typical Xbox 360 gaming controller in an interesting perspective in order to create new interest in something generally ignored aside from being used as a tool to have fun.

Cube

Pen, Marker, Pencil Drawing (2011) - 20” x 35” I created this image out of reference material that I found interesting. My goal was to combine different elements from other works that I have done, such as the ideas from ‘Ambiguous’, in order to create an interesting image that, the longer you looked at it, the more icons and symbols you found hidden within.
