MARIÑA JORDÁN DE LA PEÑA
The book is a series of architectural projects which display the capacity for architecture to deal with different scenario, controversial subjets, the general needs of our century. It is an exercise in creating nonbuildings.

Galicia has a unique geographical peculiarity in the world, the "Rías" (estuaries). Here it is one of the largest industrial fishing heritage. The spaces where our nearest industrial past was developed, as part of our historical memory, as unique buildings that explain a social, economic and cultural space, survive in the landscape without any will to treat like a value heritage. _________________________________________________

“Salgadeiras” (salted fish factories) are located by the sea. It´s fish conservation´s technique dates back to Roman times and they are the space germ of the industrialization around which grew the rest of the existing industry. "Salgadeiras" passed to canneries and later, with the sardine´s crisis in 1950, there was a gradual abandonment until today. Marks in the landscape turned into archaeologies, a story that must be rediscovered.

At the southern point, in Balea (a natural protected area) is located the oldest Salgadeira, dating from 1860: a traditional construction with several granite buildings in wood truss structure and gabled roofs.
15 ____
The rehabilitation program tries to respect the memory of the place by linking its use to the swea. In this way the idea is to create a thalassotherapy center and a tidal pools.

17 ____
Efforts have been made to respect and preserve as much as possible the original construction, structures and relationships between buildings, as well as old and new volumes. The programme is fragmented, it can be built in phases, and volumes can be used independently. The materials seek to be neutral, with the intention of to not rest importance to granite and the wood, true protagonists of the project. In the landscape intervention, the original topography has been respected accorded to the routes that people made walking. A wide staircase has been built connecting levels, as well as ramps where there was a strong slope. The sea, as a configurator of the landscape, participates in the project, dialogues with it.

This project is part of the Hyspalit Ceramic Cathedra Competition: Ceramic Facades. The object of this competition is a visitors pavilion for the Crypt of the Güell colony. It is located in the town of Santa Coloma de Cervelló and one of the bases is it should be made with ceramic materials.

Crypt Pavilion Güell
_________________________________________________
The pavilion stands as a timid piece among the trees and, without removing the protagonism to the Güell crypt, emerges from the floor as a "window": a framed view towards the crypt. The parcels are reconfigured to better order the entrance space to the crypt, creating a direct access from the pavilion. With the intention of passing unnoticed it sinks into the ground, retaining the character of this, and through two ramps, one for the access and the other for the exit, perpendicular to each other, the main longitudinal space is structured: "Une fênetre en longueur".
41 ____
42 ____
Implantation plan
The project starts from a reflection on the concept of facade and its relation with the surrounding space. It is theorized about three degrees of the nature vision: "framed vision" (a domestication of nature by architecture); "The interacting vision" (nature and architecture maintain a symbiosis dialogue); And "the negated vision" (architecture denies nature by opposing it). The layout of the pavilion thus seeks to be subtle, without pretension, and it is from the axes defined by the ramps that the entire interior space is configured. The solid brick planes, both in plan and in facade, without touching, look for a game of "empty-filled", "interior-exterior". The organicism of the GĂźell crypt , as protagonist, is followed by the sobriety and formal simplicity of the pavilion, which acts more as an "observation" space towards the crypt than as a figure in itself.

The purpose of the proposal was to link the activity of the peninsula, UNESCO heritage, with the port of Saint Vaast-la-Hougue. The landscape actuation seeked to respect the fortification and what was in it, the Vauban tower, so it was limited to shift the attention focus to the entrance of it: a promenade and a nautical center were the project interventions. _________________________________________________

Center
_________________________________________________
For the buildings in the fortification it has been proposed their rehabilitation in several phases. For the nautical center there were three factors to link : the wall of the fortification, the beach, and the movement of the tides. The promenade ran along the wall and the platform of the nautical center rose from the beach. The access from this was made through two ramps which were flooded by the rise of tides.

The project contains two pieces with the same intention, to be the continuation of the walk. In one the cover is folded, to allow walkers to look the landscape at 3 metres over the floor plan, then it descends again. In the other one the cover folds to finally end faced to Vauban Tower like a viewpoint. The cover buildings allow to use the lower areas for boats and nautical material .The project have different programs, one for each building : 1.Nautical center (training rooms, clothing booths, training room and storage of equipment and boats). 2.Public Social Area ( Youth and Elderly ) (Bar and outdoor terrace) Tide is a project tool :A small outdoor pool is created when the tide is going up. It is a large spans´s building with a saw-teeth cover. The metal roof truss structure creates a zenithal lighting making quality and confortable spaces. The reflexion of the project is based on this, taking account into it morphology, alignements and limits. The façade, a brick skin with a stone´s socle is the limit of the building, wich one follows a strategy about the empty of it interior.
55 ____
56 ____
Main Cover Structure
The factory has got two floors. Taking advantage of the unveness of the ground, the lower floor is developed at different levels: music classrooms, reception, stores and bar. Dance area and auditorium are situated on the first floor, while the bureaucratic area is on the second floor. Everything follows the same criterion: Public and private (academic zones) are similar in both floors. While on ground floor public areas are defined by double -heigh spaces, on first floor public and circulation areas are vissually connected through this double height spaces with ground floor public areas.

This Skycraper derives from a reflection based on mobility: spatial mobility, and urban and nature growth. Plot´s nature takes a starting point from transience and residual nature, with the purpose of being part of the urban landscape. The entrance to Barcelona, Montjuic´s premise and the opening to the biggest avenues wich have more influx: Ramblas, Paralel and Moll de Fusta. _________________________________________________

It is an enclave where the presence of a skycraper does not suppose a huge aberration to the environment. The skycraper derives from a circle as an icon of infinite movement, raising it to 150 metres height in order to allow housing being part of a sequence of vertical flows. The mountain as background supposes a support to the project, both competing in height and nature.
63 ____
64 ____
Geographic location The site is located between Sants-Montjuic district and the city´s historic center. It is closed to the mountain in the south, and to the port in the east. This skycraper marks an important access to the city and defines Poble Sec neighbourhood. This skycraper defines itself as ecologic and self-sustainable, despite the difficulty nowadays to carry through such a demanding task. At least, it has been the main projective idea. It has different skins that fulfill the function of protect and assure the control of energetic loss, as an excessive radiation. The first skin would be the one protecting the housing, the main structure of the building, the second one is a vegetable skin, made up by species previously selected, and the last one would be the vegetable structure. It is a reforced structural frame made with bamboo blinds.
