Final Degree Project 2015. Teacher:

Tato Herrero

Surface:

70000m2

Quart and Manises. Valencia.

This project is the conclusion of 2 years of work in the same area between two towns and near a small ravine. This area has a big potential, but needs new ideas and financiering. The purpose of this project is to rethink the big hospital that now exists, as it blocks all the connections between the town and the people. The new hospital and the project of all this area tries to create a new space, where all the people are equal and there is no distinction between patients and the rest of the population, where a hospital does not segregate but becomes a meeting point, where the urban space allows multiple choice.

To achieve our objectives, tracing the connection between the people, the hospital disappears in the main routes, allowing everyone to walk in any direction and creating a huge pedestrian area. The sleeping areas in the hospital are all oriented to the ravine (because of the health benefits). This way everyone is connected with nature.

Project I 2010. Second Year Teacher:

Nacho Fuster

Surface:

5075m2

Alfafar. Valencia.

The aim of this project is to project a group of 30 houses with different areas and a flexible program in a non-consolidated area in the town of Alfafar, near Valencia. This area is found between the last houses of Alfafar and a little village consisting in some houses that are considered part of Valencia. The enlongated shape determinates the final solution, which is a combination of one-flour houses on the ground floor and duplexs with the acces on the first floor. This combination starts on the west part and loses some parts while we go towards the east.

Project II 2011. Third Year Teacher:

Nacho Fuster

Surface:

Valencia.

This year, in Project II, we had to resolve the needs of a neighborhood, working in a plot. That plot was almost empty, apart from a triangular-base house building and a modernist abandoned factory which had a faรงade protection. The design was composed of apartment buildings (with vertical and horizontal axis) and a cultural centre reusing the old factory. The vertical-axis building were placed in the east, becoming the end of an avenue. Instead of one tower I decided to design three in order to have more slimness. When the towers touched the ground became the horizontal-axis blocks, which try to go inside the factory, connecting all the plot.

This project was made in three stages, but the idea was to give only one solution to the whole program. The protected faรงade of the old factory remained as it was originally, but the other faรงades were readapted to the new program, getting this way more light inside the cultural centre. The gable roofs were transformed into a shed roof, looking for more light and spatiality.

Project III 2012. Fourth Year T:

Carlos Meri, Silvia Bronchales Surface:

2800000m2

Quart de Poblet. Valencia.

The area is placed between the towns of Quart de Poblet and Manises with a bad connection with both. On the south-east is Quart, separated by a hard aveneu and a residential group closed on his own. On the north is Manises, but between them is the ravine. On the south-west there is one highway. The area has some pre-existences: an abandoned factory complex with strong north-south orientation, some isolated industries and a few blocks on the west, without any easy connection with anything outside the area. The aim in these project was to design a whole area trying to connect it with Quart de Poblet and Manises, and develop one part, designing the blocks in detail.

Project IV 2013. Fifth Year Teacher:

Francisco Herrero Surface:

4000m2

Quart de Poblet. Valencia.

The project consists on a social and cultural center. For the design we have an industrial unit and the outside area, so I decided to use both. The main entrance is in the new volume, which is connected to the industrial unit by two walkways. In this connection point, the industry is transformed into a shed roof structure which has a high ceiling and stands on the roof. The rest of the unit is transformed sometimes to get more natural light. The new volume contains a resting area and an exhibition area. The industrial unit has working areas in the gorund floor and a library in the first floor.

The goal of this project was to design a House for a photographer who wanted to have his own Studio and Exposition area, sharing some parts with the house but with its own independence. The building site is a non-real place, and all we had to develop it was the dimensions (20x10m), the conditions (open to the street in one side), the orientation and the story of the family.

2010. Third Year Teacher:

Vicente Mas Surface:

This subject was focused on how we translated one idea into a design and how we were able to show it in a peper. In this project we had to propose a studio area in the University, but outside. We had some ideas we wanted to express: calm, peace, serenity, contact with nature, ligthness, harmony. We decided to design something half-buried: on the one hand, we took importance away from the construction; on the other hand, we could get natural light.

Urbanism I 2010. Second Year Teacher:

Vicente AlcĂĄcer Surface:

85000m2

La Pobla de Vallbona. Valencia.

The Plan was placed in an almost flat land which hat the objective to join the extensive garden suburbs with the consolidated city. Some industrial blocks hide the nice views on the south, so they must be relocated in order to connect the design with the nature, the orchard and the mountains. The aim was to connect two parts of the city which were seen like different cities, so the design must had references of both parts, with a higher Urban Quality. The final design is formed by three parts. The north and south sections consists on public space with differen fuctions and with shapes that reminds us the ochard’s patch. On the north section, is seated a high block which contains offices and residences. On the central section we can find block that follow the city form on the east and single-family homes and the school on the west. All the design is thought with the objective of give a good Urban Quality to the inhabitants and bring the nature and the ochard inside the city.

Project III 2011. Fourth Year T:

Carlos Meri, Silvia Bronchales. Surface:

Quart de Poblet. Valencia.

In Quart de Poblet there is a residential group which was built for the old factory workers. Now, the factory is closed, but the residential group is still in use. The aim of this project was to design a house for a four-members family without changing the original structure of the house: two pillars and a gabled wood roof. The first decision I make is to organize the program using one pillar as axis. This way, the symmetric plan is transformed in asymmetric. The stars are placed around the pillar and the house is thought as a Venetian Palace.

Restoration 2012. Fifth Year Teacher:

The house was built in 1921 by the Folgado family. Some years later was sold and over the years it has been transformed. At the moment the house is abandoned and has different elements from the original house. The patio has been taken up by little industry built with poor materials. Over the first floor (which was the last one on the past), a dove supported by the wood roof was built. The objective of the project was to analyze the current conditions of the house and suggest a possible restoration.

The main idea of the project is to create a lineal park where there are railways that exist since the beginning of the 20th Century. The city was then smaller and the railways now block the connection between two neighbourhoods. We want to connect them with this big pedestrian path, which offers a big variety of activities to the citizens.

This park is a part of my final degree project. The aim was to reconsider the potential that the ravine offers to the city, undervalued in this moment. The project connects the different parts of the ravine with new paths, proposing different kind of parks, in order to create a natural place where everyone finds an activity to do. It has three sectors: -The stands park. The old stone walls and the new concrete walls create a park with different activities and playing zones. -The forest. -The urban garden.

We found ourselves in a conflicitve area of the city of Bern, next to the Aare’s river valley. The aim of this project was to solve the urbanisitc conflicts produced as a consequence of its development process and the substitution of the current activities (drug problems) by others, renovating the neighborhood. Our project was understood as a hand given to the inhabitants of the city.

Pladur Competition 2012. Fourth Year Surface:1800m2

Madrid.

We found ourselves in a the center of Madrid, and here, like in the rest of the Spain, we can a skeleton, an unfinished building. Everyone think it is waste of the construction bubble, another construction, unfinished and useless. We think it can be much more, we want more than that and we will find the solution. It’s clear that we have to make a design which settles with low costs. In order tu extend it, the solution should be transportable and adaptable to different buildings with similar conditions. With the Container solution we create homes that can be transported by trucks, already finished, which can be elevated to the chosen floor.
