WELCOME
So far in 2023 we’ve seen sell-out audiences for a whole range of shows from comedy to burlesque and welcomed critically-acclaimed dramas to our stage. We also launched our Flooding Back project to mark the 70th anniversary of the 1953 Floods – the culmination of which will be a newly-written play on the Marina stage this summer.
This year will also see many of the shows you know and love such as Frankie’s Guys, Sensational 60s, and of course That’ll Be The Day. New titles such as Do You Believe in Ghosts?, A Year of Birdsong and Birdsongs, and Old Time Sailors will bring variety to our rich programme of live work.
There will also be a change in leadership. This brochure will be my last as Chief Executive of the Marina Theatre Trust. Back in 2016 when I joined the Marina as Marketing Manager I oversaw the design, print, and distribution of my first Marina brochure – a 40-page booklet fronted by Joe McElderry as Joseph and featuring shows like Stick Man, An Evening with Jason Donovan, and – never to be forgotten – The Ladyboys of Bangkok. In the years since, we’ve seen record-breaking panto audiences, the ‘Beast from the East,’ a worldwide pandemic, 10 brochures produced,
various changes to staffing at all levels of the organisation, an upgraded LED lighting rig, and 6 incarnations of Terry Gleed. The one constant that has remained through all that time is you; your support, and your love for the Marina. As I depart this spring for pastures new I know that that will never change.
And so, I present to you my final season at the Marina. Please continue to support your local theatre. Around the country theatres of all shapes and sizes remain at risk of closure, and as Chief Executive during the pandemic I know how close the Marina came to sharing that fate. It was customer confidence, government support, and the tireless work of our staff that saved the theatre from that destiny, but it is in your hands that its future will prosper.

FILM
Throughout the year we present some of the best new releases. Picking over the award-nominations and reading through the reviews, we select films that tell bold stories about modern life and reimagine classic tales from the past. Having the largest cinema screen on the Suffolk coast comes with great responsibility, but it’s one we relish.
SCREENINGS
As you’ll see, our live programme features a range of shows from drama to comedy, music, dance and variety. From the Royal Shakespeare Company to West End Musicals it is now possible to bring you even more great days and nights of entertainment and culture. Whether streamed via satellite or captured live on camera these theatre screenings allow you to experience an even richer mix of performances – and for a fraction of the cost of a West End theatre ticket.

SUPPORT US
We are proud to be Lowestoft’s not-for-profit professional theatre. Our charity number is 1149133.
Support from the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund, Theatre’s Trust and Lowestoft Town Council, as well as the many donations that we received from you, our customers, were the only things that kept us going throughout the long months of closure. Whilst we are still recovering and seeing audience numbers begin to increase, we are also seeing our running costs rise. To continue to deliver the same great service that we always do and building on our expanding range of community and outreach work we will need your help.
MAKE A DONATION
Please add a donation to your basket when buying tickets online or at the Box Office. If you’re eligible, be sure to add Gift Aid to your donation, increasing its value by 25%!
NAME A SEAT
You can be part of our building. Celebrate a notable milestone or pay tribute to someone special. Sponsoring a seat will allow you to have a plaque with your name or message fixed to an auditorium seat for £150 for a minimum of 10 years. Contact info@marinatheatre.co.uk for more details.

ACCESS
We believe that theatre is for everyone and where possible we will always make adjustments to meet your needs. Accessibility is at the core of our planned redevelopment works. We hope to bring you more updates in the coming months.
WHEELCHAIRS
We have wheelchair accessible toilets servicing the Box Office, Café, Kiosk, Foyer and Auditorium and five wheelchair spaces available in the auditorium stalls. For those using sticks or with other mobility issues we will always do what we can to find you the best seats. Call the Box Office on 01502 533200 and we can guide you through your options. We always advise booking early to get the best seats for you.
HEARING ASSISTANCE
We have a state-of-the-art Sennheiser infrared hearing system. The system allows sound from the stage to be played back to you through headphones or hearing aids via an easy-to-use bodypack. These are particularly useful for films, screenings, plays and comedy, though are not always suitable for loud live music such as rock bands or musicals. Any headphones with a 3.5mm jack plug can be used with the bodypack. You are welcome to bring your own set, or you can purchase them from the kiosk.
SUBTITLED SCREENINGS
We have made upgrades to our cinema system to allow us to show subtitled films subject to availability. These show the dialogue and other heard elements of a film at the bottom of the screen and are really useful for people who are deaf, hard of hearing or speak English as a second language.
ACCESSIBLE PERFORMANCES
Whenever possible we aim to schedule in signed and/or relaxed performances into our programme. Our relaxed performances for panto have become a really popular event and last year’s Panto cast commented that the audiences for our relaxed performances were some of their favourites throughout the run. For Aladdin we’re thrilled to be able to offer a signed performance, a relaxed performance, and a signed and relaxed performance as part of our panto season this December.
If you have any concerns or would like to discuss any access requirements you have before you arrive please email info@marinatheatre.co.uk, phone 01502 533200, send a letter to the address on the back, or pop in during our opening hours to have a chat.
Check back on our website for more updates about accessible performances.
