For now the Sea Level is moored in Key West. The plan is to explore the islands around Key West for a few months, then work their way up Florida’s east coast, first to Fort Lauderdale, then Fernandina, followed by stops on the Georgia and South Carolina coast before heading back to Florida. A few favorite excursions so far include day boating to Marquesas’ Key about 35 miles west of Key West, and a trip to Jefferson Island and the Dry Tortugas. Along the way they cruised alongside sea turtles and dolphin pods, all the while watching fish jump out of crystal clear blue-green water. Karen Ardaman loves to get off the boat onto the shore during their explorations. Although the shallow draft on the Boston Whaler allows the Sea Level to get close to shore, the Ardamans took it one step further and customized the Whaler to be even more sand bar friendly. Hardin’s team added 10-foot power poles, installed a bow beach boarding ladder, and modified the anchor locker so the bow ladder would fit properly. According to Kurt Ardaman, this ‘awesome extra’ looks like giant spider legs coming off the boat, creating a grand entrance to the beach. A visit to Snipe Keys reaffirmed why they made the decision to invest in the custom feature. The five or so acres of shallow, sandy bottom are visible through clear shimmering water. It’s the perfect spot to beach for a picnic and swim. Bathers can rinse off with the handheld sprayer attached to an 18-gallon freshwater shower located at the stern. Boating is much different for the Ardamans with the Boston Whaler. When their three kids were little they had a 20-foot Sea Ray on Butler Lake in Orlando. Back then weekend trips included trailering the boat. The Ardamans didn’t get a trailer for the Sea Level. When the trip around the coast is finished, they’ll probably spend a little time cruising one of their favorite places, Charlotte Harbor. The couple likes to base out of Useppa Island, rent a home, and have guests stay at the elegant Collier Inn. There’s a great restaurant there too. After his adventure to Key West, Kurt Ardaman is toying with the idea of an open ocean boat. His escapades on the Sea Level have opened up new ideas about what the boating lifestyle can be.

Inflatables are the most all-inclusive option to have aboard. These popular blow-up rides don’t really have a learning curve nor do they require skill or athletic ability. Of course, traditional water skiing will always remain a rite of passage for many. Kids can start out on combo trainer skis, linked together to help keep skis parallel (and avoid the dreaded splits), before moving on to traditional combos and, later, a single ski. Older kids and adults can test their limits carving up the morning glass on that slalom ski or ditch the skis entirely and attempt to ski barefoot. South Seas Resort Getaways!® to Captiva Island in June. MarineMax Getaways! are exclusive opportunities for MarineMax owners to experience journeys of discovery guided by an experienced captain allowing owners to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow MarineMax owners without the stress of planning the course and reserving the accommodations. They had a great time meeting other MarineMax owners and their wide variety of boats including Boston Whalers, Galeon Yachts, Sea Rays, and Azimut Yachts. It was a lot of fun, but the Stones were looking forward to the inaugural Aquila Owners Rendezvous scheduled for the end of July. Barbara and Anthony invited their brother and sisterin-law, Keith and Tonia Ross, to fly out from California. The venue was the same South Seas Resort. However, it was exclusively for Aquila owners. The Stone’s caught up with the fleet of six Aquila 44s, an Aquila 36, and an Aquila 48. Entering the South Seas Resort’s harbor was a grand sight. That evening the couples enjoyed docktails with their fellow Aquila owners discovering how each had outfitted their boats differently for their singular ways of using their boats. The privacy of the staterooms proved to be ideal allowing the two couples sequestered space at night without having to leave the stateroom to use the separate en-suite heads. There were several planned activities throughout the extended weekend. The highlight for the Stones and their guests was a raft-up with all the Aquilas. The water was inviting, and a giant floating raft mat became the central point for everyone to enjoy each other’s company. On the trip back to Bellaire Beach, Anthony and Barbara discussed plans to travel with their son Anthony and daughter Gabriella. The three staterooms would be perfect for their family, each having their own separate retreat for the night with shared space to enjoy each other’s company and enjoy the adventure on the main deck, aft deck, foredeck and flybridge. With the help of MarineMax and their sales professional, Jacob Coyle, Anthony and Barbara Stone went from novice boat owners who did not know what they wanted to begin their boating lifestyle to owning the ideal boat for their family and friends to enjoy.

According to Faas, it was Hermey who fell the hardest for the boating lifestyle, but it wasn’t until the trio went out on Trento’s brand new Sunliner that he and Hermey paid a visit to Mitch Scharf at the MarineMax Lake Hopatcong store. “They told me they wanted a boat like Joe Trento,” said Scharf. “As soon as a 240 Sunliner came in, I called them. Two days later they are in the store and we’re signing the papers. The boat wasn’t even unwrapped yet!” These days the three friends, along with their entourages can be found anchored in Byram Cove, a large inlet with no waves. They’ll tie up together, grill out, dine al fresco, and just enjoy each other’s company. Deep storage under each bench seat means supplies can be stowed easily, and a pop up table is perfect to hold the picnic spread.
