MARINEMAX
Yacht Charter Management
An Operational Consideration For Yacht Ownership
OFFERING ONE’S YACHT FOR CHARTER IS AN EXCELLENT WAY TO OFFSET A PERCENTAGE OF YOUR OPERATING EXPENSES. MARINEMAX’S CHARTER MANAGEMENT TEAM IS AN EXPERIENCED GROUP WHO WOULD BE ASSIGNED TO IDENTIFY YOUR CHARTERING OBJECTIVES AND THEN DESIGN A PLAN TO MEET THOSE NEEDS.
Offering One’s Yacht for Charter If there is a desire to have the yacht not only for your personal pleasure use but also offer it for select charter vacations, the experienced professionals at MarineMax are equipped to market and promote your yacht to the worldwide global charter brokerage network. You would retain the charter management team to expose your yacht to these several hundred charter brokers who in turn, have a customer database of clients who might be interested in your yacht charter.
The Role of the Charter Manager Upon assigning the yacht to the MarineMax Charter Management Team, you will meet with an agent to design the program that suits your needs. The role of the charter manager is to promote the yacht and generate interest for chartering amongst the charter brokerage network. The agent will coordinate the development of a charter brochure, an online presence, open houses wherein the yacht is shown to local charter brokers, and any other marketing of the yacht in order to help gain a presence amongst the worldwide charter fleet. Upon inquiry, your agent’s role expands to that of processing the inquiry and providing whatever is necessary to bring the inquiry to contract. In general, the MarineMax agent’s role is not only to promote the yacht for charter but at all times to protect the owner’s interests and act as a liaison between the yacht owner, charter broker, and the captain/crew.
Business Considerations Depending on your personal tax situation there may be some advantages that can be realized tax–wise but this subject should be discussed between you as the owner of the yacht, your lawyers, and your financial counselors.

F.A.Q. Q: What can I expect in terms of a weekly charter rate and the number of weeks that I could anticipate per year? A: There are many variables depending on owner’s use, positioning, charter rate, market conditions, and the confidence of the brokers in your charter product. Once your MarineMax agents can get an understanding of these factors, they would be in a position to provide projections.
Q: What about ‘wear and tear’ – is that something that I need to be concerned with? A: In general, the charter customers who have the wherewithal to charter a luxury yacht are very respectful of the property. In addition, the agreement entered into between the owner of the yacht and the charter client calls for the yacht to be returned in the same condition as delivered.
Q: What can I expect to net from the charter fee? A: In most cases the owner will realize 80% of the gross charter fee after commissions are paid. It should be noted that the charter fee is exclusive of all consumables. In other words, fuel, dockage, boat supplies, food, liquor, port taxes, gratuities and any other consumables are at the expense of the charter client.
