The NEW DISCOVERY 67 The fabulous new Discovery 67 comes from the world renowned designer Ron Holland. Based on the hugely successful Discovery 55, the new 67 offers a new dimension of space, grace and luxury. She is a true superyacht. Although she offers fine and spacious accommodation for up to nine, she has nevertheless been designed to be able to be sailed effortlessly by just two people. All the controls come back to powerful electric winches in the cockpit, and all sail setting and trimming can be done by just one person. Ron Holland is famous for designing boats that are both fast and beautifully balanced, and the Discovery 67 is set to become an icon of the very finest from his studio. This is a boat that will take you cross oceans effortlessly, and yet will provide you with a wonderful entertaining base wherever you are in the world. The huge, comfortable cockpit, the magnificent raised saloon and luxurious accommodation make this a real home from home. But it is perhaps the attention to detail that has makes the new Discovery stand out from the rest.
Cleverly designed for your enjoyment and safety We felt that if you were going to visit some of the most beautiful places in the world, you wouldn’t want to bury yourself down in the hull and not be able to see them. So, in what is becoming the trademark of a Discovery yacht, we have raised the saloon so that you can sit, see out and enjoy your surroundings. Just as important, the forward facing raised navigation station allows you panoramic vision. Here with the plotter/radar to hand in great comfort you can control the autopilot and maintain a good watch out of the elements. This makes watch keeping is so much less tiring allowing to sail longer, further and with less crew. It is this, as much as the easy sail handling that truly makes this a two handed boat. Throughout the Discovery 67, there are little touches to make life easy. There are no wide open spaces to get thrown around in; wherever you move, grab handles come naturally to hand. There is a fine chef’s galley designed for easy use at sea or in harbour. There is a proper walk in engine room with great access to all machinery and systems. A generator, full air-conditioning and a water maker all come as standard, as do a colour plotter, radar and bow thruster.

1.
GENERAL LAYOUT and Construction of Hull and Deck
The Hull. The hull is laid up in female moulds. The immensely strong lay up specified by the Designer and Structural Engineers is designed to meet or exceed full CE regulations Category “A - Ocean. The hull has two coats of isothalic gelcoat which is nonpigmented below the waterline helping to resist osmosis. This is followed by powderbound mat. Vinylester resin is used throughout the hull, which gives superior strength over more traditional polyester resins. This, together with the isothalic gel coat, provides a hull that is highly resistant to Osmosis and enables us to give a 5-year written guarantee against Osmosis. To add to the protection the hull below the waterline is epoxy painted and given two coats of anti-fouling before the boat is launched. A double boot top line is sprayed or moulded in, and a caveta line is hand applied when the boat is sign written. The lay-up incorporates an end-grain balsa core above the waterline and high strength structural PVC foam core below the waterline, which provides exceptional stiffness and insulation yet keeps the weight down while minimising noise and condensation. This is laid up under vacuum to ensure complete structural integrity. Woven mat is used extensively for optimum strength to weight ratio and this is further stiffened by a layer of woven Kevlar throughout the forward part of the hull providing superior strength. There are massive stringers running the full length of the boat to port and starboard providing structural integrity. These incorporate the engine beds and tank supports. Structural bulkheads are of marine grade plywood and all bulkheads are laminated to the hull and deck. For additional safety there are two watertight bulkheads forward - one aft of the chain locker and another between the main forward sail locker and the fore cabin. The two aft lazarette lockers are contained in their own watertight compartments to prevent any water ingress into the main living area. Deck and Superstructure. The deck is moulded in GRP with a balsa core to provide strength and insulation which means that condensation and noise from external sources is minimised A bulwark runs around the whole deck edge to give strength and a feeling of security. Wherever there are load bearing areas plywood replaces the balsa core. All load bearing fittings have aluminium or stainless steel backing plates. The deck incorporates 2 lazarette lockers, and a self-draining gas and outboard fuel locker amidships, a large sail locker forward and a self draining chain locker at the bow. All locker lids are hinged and securely closed with deck hatch compression latches. All deck lockers are fitted with interior lights. The sail locker has a gas strut on the hinged lid. The gas locker allows stowage of two 6Kg bottled gas cylinders.

Windows. All windows are constructed of toughened safety glass - The main saloon windows are double glazed to give extra insulation and to minimise condensation. Hull to Deck join. The deck moulding incorporates a raised flange for the bulwark. This is laid onto the matching hull flange with an epoxy bonding paste and for additional strength and safety the two are then fastened with stainless bolts. Interior. All hull and deck surfaces are lined to provide some comfort. All bilge areas are flowcoated in grey or white for cleanliness and all cabin sole areas are accessible via access panels. All hatches are edge sealed and varnished or painted on both sides. All wood surfaces are varnished, lacquered, or painted as appropriate to best boat building practices.

fitted. There is an instrument housing just forward of the main hatch. The side benches extend through to the aft cockpit to provide maximum seating and sunbathing space. The cockpit seats and forward sole are finished in solid teak. The aft part of the cockpit is designed to give the helmsman an uncluttered helming area. The curved helm seat provides good forward visibility and comfort, whether the boat is heeled or upright. The custom designed pedestal provides a clear instrument and control platform. The 48 diameter leather-covered wheel is mounted on the pedestal, with instruments, controls and single lever throttle immediately to hand. The side seats also provide a comfortable helm position. The aft cockpit is normally self-draining. However, this cockpit has the option of being filled with sea or fresh water to provide a "hot tub" or "splash pool", and the cockpit is shaped to allow two people to comfortably lie back and relax in this area. There is cockpit lighting positioned on the underside of the boom for evening dining..
Twin Wheel Version – 67T (optional extra) The twin wheel version offers a large comfortable cockpit as above, with a large cockpit table. In addition, there are then two helm positions further aft, each with 32 leather covered wheels. Each helm position has an instrument console. A single lever throttle is fitted to one helm position as standard, with repeater throttle as an option. Each helm position is provided with a comfortable seat that gives good visibility forward . This option provides for an easy walk through from the main cockpit moving aft which allows easy access to the aft deck and transom area. The hot tub is not available with this option. We will be pleased to discuss the merits of each layout.

Sprayhood and (optional) Bimini Top The cockpit is well protected by a large folding sprayhood with 32mm (1 ¼” diameter stainless supports and a stainless grab handle on its aft edge. Large clear panels provide good forward visibility. When not in use the sprayhood folds behind a moulded coaming on the coachroof. A Bimini Top is offered as an option. This is set on stainless steel frames, and extends beyond the immediate cockpit. On the standard cockpit version (67S) it provides good shade for the whole cockpit. It can have optional roll down side panels for when the sun is low on the horizon. Bimini Tops may be customised to suit owner’s preferences. A full sun awning to cover half or all of the boat is also available as an option. This not only provides shade, but also shields open hatches.
4.
STEERING GEAR
The leather covered stainless steel wheel controls a solid rod steering system providing direct steering to the rudder quadrant. The rudder is semi-balanced and protected by a substantial half skeg. This gives light yet positive steering, whilst providing protection for the rudder itself. The rudder blade is GRP, with Kevlar reinforcement. It is bonded to a solid shaft, with top and bottom bearings. An emergency tiller fits directly onto the top of the rudder shaft, which is accessed via a stainless deckplate. There is a friction brake on the wheel.
5.
KEEL
The shape of the external ballast keel has been developed over many years of research and development by the Ron Holland design team. The weight is concentrated in a sophisticated shaped bulb near the bottom of the keel. It is lead cast with 3% antimony hardening, through bolted to the hull stub with cast-in stainless steel bolts. The keel ballast weight is 13,000 Kgs (38,600 lbs) giving a high ballast ratio of approximately 37% with half tanks. The positioning of the weight near the bottom of the keel gives a low centre of gravity. Machinery, batteries and tanks have also all been set centrally and low in the boat for maximum stability and comfort. A centreboard version is also available as an option.

ENGINE AND MACHINERY
Engine Room. The Discovery 67 has a full walk-in engine room, with the main access door from the starboard aft passageway. Access to the engine and to ancillary equipment is excellent. There is good lighting to the engine room area. An automatic fire extinguisher system is fitted as standard. The engine room has fan ventilation. The engine room is fully lined out with fire retardant insulation that is faced to prevent any contamination by diesel or inflammable substances. All access panels have rubber sealing strips. All ancillary pumps and motors are fitted on their own insulated and well-labelled distribution boards and are rubber mounted for quietness. Ventilation ducting is also sound insulated where appropriate. Engine The standard engine is a YANMAR 4 cylinder, turbo charged engine, which develops 200HP (147KW) at 3,300 RPM. Fitted with a 2.5:1 reduction gearbox, it is designed for smooth, long running operation. It has excellent torque characteristics that allow it to power a large, slow turning propeller for quiet motoring. Yanmar provides a worldwide service network which gives peace of mind for maintenance tasks. The engine is fitted with dual alternators. (See electrical specification for more details). The exhaust is fed to an HMI water separator, which eliminates almost all exhaust and cooling water noise. The cooling water is expelled under the waterline to minimise noise even further. Stern Gear. The engine is mounted on flexible feet to minimise vibration. An Aquadrive coupling at the inboard end of the 1.75" (44mm) stainless steel shaft then transfers the thrust to the hull via a thrust bearing. This further reduces vibration, noise and wear. The shaft is led to a cast bronze P-bracket. An anode is fitted to the shaft. A rope cutter is optional. Propeller. A folding three bladed 26" diameter Gori propeller is fitted as standard. This folds automatically to maximise sailing performance. It gives excellent handling performance, ahead or astern and requires minimal maintenance.

Generator. An ONAN low speed heavy-duty generator of 11 KW 50Hz [13.5 KW at 60Hz] is fitted as standard. This comes with its own insulated sound shield, and is located at the aft end of the engine room for near silent running. The exhaust is fed to an HMI water separator, which eliminates almost all exhaust and cooling water noise. The cooling water is expelled below the water line which minimises noise even further. A remote control panel includes automatic shut down facilities. This can be up rated to a higher output generator as an option. Bow Thruster. A 15hp MaxPower tunnel bow thruster (24 volt) is fitted as standard. The tunnel is fully faired into the hull to minimise drag and maximise performance when in use Fuel Tanks. Fuel is provided from two rigid tanks made of special fuel grade high-density polyethylene. We have fitted these because we believe them to be far superior to stainless steel or aluminium tanks as they minimise condensation and are much less likely to suffer from stress cracks. However, we will fit stainless tanks at no extra cost if an owner prefers. Total Capacity 1800 litres (474 US galls). The tanks are fitted with baffles and inspection covers. Each tank has its own deck filler and breather. Each tank has a pick-up point at the very bottom to permit the removal of any water or contaminants. The main fuel feed is then led to a Racor (or equivalent) fuel filter and water separator. This has a warning light at the helm station. This is in addition to the main engine and generators filters. There are fuel contents gauges for both tanks.
10.
PLUMBING
Fresh Water System. Fresh water is stored in two separate food grade, high-density polyethylene tanks. These are fitted with baffles and inspection covers. They are completely taint free, and do not suffer from the corrosion that can affect stainless steel tanks in some parts of the world. Total capacity of the two tanks is 1400 litres (368 US gals). Each of these has its own deck feed and breather. As an option the port tank can also be fed from the rainwater catching system. When rainwater is diverted to this tank it passes through a filter. This is ideal for showers, washing up and "hot-tub" use. Very often this water is rather nicer and softer than water taken from ashore! Each tank is fitted with a contents gauge. Hot water is fed from a 50 litre insulated calorifier, taking heat from the engine's heat exchanger. It is also fitted with a thermostatically controlled immersion heater (220v or 110v as specified) for use when alongside, or when the generator is running. Hot and cold pressurised water is fed throughout the yacht by a PAR automatic water pump system. There are outlets in the galley, at all hand basins and showers and at the aft deck shower. There is also a foot operated freshwater pump in the galley. As

Water Maker A 230 volt (110v) Seafresh 102 litre/hr water maker is fitted as standard, and can feed either water tank. A 24 volt water maker is available as an option. Toilets and Holding Tanks. The yacht is fitted with 3 x Tecma electric WCs as standard. The WCs discharge via the holding tanks each of approximately 80 litres. The holding tanks are positioned in such a way that they are then discharged overboard by gravity. They can also be emptied by shore side facilities. In those areas of no discharge, all that is needed is to close the seacock. All pipe work is reinforced sanitation grade hose designed for use with marine heads, and is double clamped. Grey Water. Hand basins and showers drain into their own sump tanks. These are then pumped overboard via the holding tanks, which can be closed when appropriate. Deck Wash System. A salt water pressure pump is fitted, with an outlet at the anchor well. The supply terminates with a snap-on connection, and comes complete with 15m of hose and a hose gun allowing easy anchor and deck cleaning. A pressured fresh water deck connection is located in the cockpit. Bilge Pumps. The cabin drains via limber holes to a deep sump, fitted with two high output electric bilge pumps. There is also an electric bilge pump for the forward sail locker. All three pumps are fitted with automatic float switches, and a 2 position switch (On/Auto) at the control panel. A manual bilge pump, fitted with a strum box, can be operated from the cockpit All through hull fittings near or below the waterline are fitted with shut-off valves, and double stainless steel clamps.

ELECTRICAL
D.C Electrics. The engine and generator are 12v start. The main engine is fitted with a 60amp hour 12v alternator. The main engine has its own 200ah start battery, and the generator has its own 120ah start battery. A second 24 volt, 110 amp hour alternator on the engine supplies the yacht's main 24v system. The domestic batteries are industrial heavy duty, deep cycle, sealed gel batteries totalling 600 amp hour capacity at 24v. (Equivalent to 1200 amps at 12v). These batteries, under normal use, should have a ten year or more operational life, and are the best batteries available anywhere. They are completely maintenance free. The batteries are fully secured in the event of a knockdown.

A 24 to 12 volt converter provides a 12 volt power source. The yacht’s wiring is tinned multi-strand marine grade cable, sized to ABS voltage loss regulations. Distribution is by an intelligent 2-wire Can-Bus system. Heavy-duty battery switches isolate all circuits except bilge pumps which are independent. Wiring is clearly labelled and numbered or colour coded. Wiring is fed in conduits wherever appropriate. The control panel provides full power management information (both DC and AC). The mast is grounded to the ballast keel for lightning protection. Sterngear, chainplates, seacocks and keel are electrically bonded and linked to the common earth system. Battery Charging. The engine and generator start batteries are each charged by their own alternators. This provides secure starting back up with the two separate batteries. These have an emergency link facility, which would also allow charging from either alternator. The 24-volt domestic battery bank is charged by the 110-amp hour alternator on the engine or by the battery charger. This charges at 75 amp hours (24v) from the generator or shore power. A second 2.5 kW inverter / 75 amp charger is optional. A.C Electrical System. The A.C. panel controls a 30-amp 230-volt (110v option) ring main, with power sockets in the galley, main saloon and each cabin. A.C. power can be provided by the standard 2500 W static inverter, dockside supply, or standard diesel generator. (A second 2500 W Static Inverter is available as an option). A 1 kW immersion heater is fitted in the hot water tank for use when using dockside supply or with the generator. A 3 core double insulated 16 amp PVC dockside power cable (20 metres) with appropriate sockets is provided. For use anywhere in the world, an optional isolation transformer can accept either 230 volt or 115 volt shore power. We are happy to discuss your sailing plans and power requirements and offer advice accordingly.

Interior. The standard joinery finish is in cherry, with options in maple or light oak We will be pleased to discuss the characteristics of each wood, and show samples of finish.
Galley. The “U-shaped galley has been designed with use both at sea and in harbour in mind. The general layout is as the plan. The double sink is set near the centreline of the boat, so that it can drain on either tack. Since water from sinks, washing up, vegetable preparation etc. always seems to have a mind of its own, the whole of this inboard worktop is Velstone with large Velstone and cherry fiddles to contain all spillages, which can easily be wiped back into the sinks! Hot and cold pressured water is fed to a mixer tap. There is a separate foot operated fresh water pump. A large draining bin is built in besides the sink, so that plates etc can be left to dry securely. This is also a really useful place to put things down and know that they will be secure. There is extensive stowage in lockers and drawers above and below the worktop. There is enough space for an optional front-loading dishwasher. Halogen down lights provide good working light. There is an additional overhead red night light. There is a really good garbage chute leading to a pull-out garbage container under the worktop. There are fiddles and grab handles throughout. Two opening ports in the coachroof provide ventilation and light, a fixed port in the hull, an opening hatch overhead, and a good sized opening hatch into the cockpit which allows food to be passed directly to the cockpit. A 230v (110v) extractor fan is fitted over the cooker. Forward there is a large, well insulated, stainless steel deep freeze of 170 litres (6.0 cu.ft) capacity. The interior is fitted with shelves. Outboard and aft of that is the huge main stainless steel fridge of 300 litres (10.4 cu. ft) capacity, with a front opening door. This is fitted with shelves and an internal light. (See refrigeration section for details). The fridge and freezer are positioned so that crew can reach cold

drinks etc without disturbing the cook! The freezer can also be used as a fridge should an extra chill cabinet be required. There is a Force 10 three or four burner gimballed cooker, with grill and oven set into a GRP moulded recess. It is fitted with fiddles/pan holders and has flame failure devices. A safety switch is provided to the remote gas supply solenoid shut off valve. There is a stainless 'crash' bar running in front of the cooker. There are deep fiddles around the Velstone finish worktop. There is good stowage outboard for crockery and food storage. A 230v (110v) microwave oven is fitted as standard.
Refrigeration. The standard refrigeration and freezers are 24v Frigomatic systems, with sea-water keel cooled heat exchangers for extremely efficient cooling, especially in hotter climes. Both the freezer and fridge boxes are constructed with 100mm to 150mm closed cell insulation throughout to ensure excellent temperature retention and vapour barriers are fitted round the doors. Both fridge and freezer are specified for full tropical use. Wet Locker. A ventilated wet locker is located by the companionway steps at the forward end of the galley. Navigation Area. Te raised navigator’s station affords good visibility outwards. Reflecting the way that most people now navigate, the chart table has now been designed to incorporate the plotter/radar screen, but still leaving desk space for charts. Navigation aids and radios April 2008

are mounted beside the navigators seat itself, while stowage for HF radios, almanacs etc. is conveniently to hand. There is provision of both white and red night lighting in this area. The large navigators seat is well curved to provide a really comfortable navigation station at which two people can sit. Main Saloon. The saloon is designed to allow panoramic views whether standing or seated. The saloon allows really comfortable seating. The saloon table folds down from dining to "coffee table" size, but when needed, the saloon can dine eight people or more comfortably. The dinette is also long enough to be used as a comfortable sea berth. There is a drinks locker. There are also extensive stowage lockers in this area. Two opening deck hatches, together with the oversize companionway hatch provide good ventilation. Access to the main saloon from the cockpit is via three easy shallow steps with good handholds. There are grab handles and sturdy fiddles positioned throughout - to allow easy movement around the boat, especially when at sea.
Owner's Stateroom (aft). This cabin is light, airy and spacious. The king size double berth is 6' 6" long by 5' 9" wide (2m x 1.8m). It has split interior sprung mattresses set on a special base that allow them to "breathe" minimising any dampness. Lee cloths are provided for sea going use. On either side there are personal sofas, and throughout there is extensive drawer, locker and wardrobe stowage. There is a vanity desk to starboard. A large
