I have received my new Steel sails exactly before my departure to the “Reunion Wave Classic” in September, this meant there was no time for me to become familiar with them. But obviously this was not necessary at all, the sail worked very well, even in these extreme conditions and finally I was voted as “best rider” thanks to some real spectacular rides. Being a lightweight, for me the balance of the sail and a perfect off right when I need it, are inevitable characteristics of a sail. Everything else is automatic. As uncomplicated and complete the Steel is, it is probably the right choice for most of the wave riders.

Fast Rigging Easy Doing

Many windsurfers “give away” a big part of their sail range of use, because of insufficient luff tensioning. FRED will help you to find the optimal luff trim for your sail. The mark is found in the upper sail window and serves as an orientation point to create the perfect luff tension. Just trim the sail downhaul until the loose leech reaches the FRED mark.

In order to get the correct clew tension, adjust the boom according to the length printed on the sail, tension the clew and that’s it, the out haul trim is done. Now tension the battens until the monofilm on either side of the batten is just wrinkle-free and the job is done, go sailing!

During the European Freestyle Tour, I have, according to the wind strength, 3 different sails in use: Steel, Transwave and Torro. My sail sponsor is a bit worried about that, as most of the riders are committed to one sail type, but they accept it. In high winds in the 4 m² area, I like the rather neutral feeling of the Steel, and if the wind goes down, for 5 m² and more, I take the sails with a bit more power. For me, the manoeuvrability is crucial, and this is working well for all these 3 different sail lines, no matter if you want to do some tricks or make a cool ride in the waves.

With my 8-years experience of being a Gun Sails team rider, I have a quite good view of what happened during the last years. Of course I am not regularly using all the sails of the line, some only during the photoshooting or surf trips. Then I am getting surprised every time. Each year I feel a change, whether in the little features or of the performance. The whole line is co-ordinated very well and it is very harmonized. Personally I especially like that all sails can be handled very easily by every sailor and thus the fun of windsurfing can be ranked first.

ROLL CAMS

With the use of roll cams, the sail rotation is much smoother and the mast wear is virtually eliminated. Thanks to the special rollers that are located on the outside, the cam can be simply “rolled” onto the mast whilst rigging without any great efforts.

The Wave sails are equipped with 2 clew eyelets which are set asymmetrically for individual tuning.

The RBL (Reduced Boom Length) design shortens the boom length. The handling is much easier and feels more compact and the sail control is significantly improved. A shorter boom is generally stiffer and will assist in maintaining the sail stability and profile.

LOW SLEEVE FRICTION

While inserting the mast, the mast tip rubs against the head seam of the sleeve. An inner close-meshed, smooth strap protects the seam and reduces the friction forces.

The mast sleeve of all camless sails is reinforced in the batten area in order to avoid abrasion.

The Gun Sails logo that is sewn on the sleeve keeps it open at the boom opening area like a clip and thus mast insertion is much easier.

The integrated Gun Sails triple pulley has large easy turning stainless brass rolls which greatly reduce the effort required for sail trimming. Also, if you prefer, the rolls are removable to allow the use of standard downhaul pulley hooks.

STRAP ON

For very easy packing away and storage: Just roll the sail up and fix the elastic retainer.

The printed height scale at the boom opening helps you to easily remember your personal boom position.

The large mast foot protector can be pulled back whilst rigging. The loop eases the initial pulling down of the sail. The uphaul can be comfortably inserted through an opening in the protector.

SYMMETRICAL BATTEN SYSTEM

On all the camless sails, the batten above the boom section is positioned on the opposite side of the sail. In this way, the sail becomes equally balanced on both sides, especially in the area with the most profile and where the sail window is the largest.

The ITB (Internal Trim Batten) system is PVC tabs on the upper batten pockets completely integrated into the batten prevent wearing out and abrasion whilst pocket, the aerodynamics of the leech rigging. has been improved and the battens can stay tensioned in the sail. All seams in the significantly stressed foot area are protected by Dacron coverings.

The Steel is a universal wave sail for real wave sailors. A well balanced shape, easy to control, a smooth release of power, with fast reactions – these are the key characteristics of the Steel. Sail designer Renato Morlotti and his test team compare the performance of the new Rapid to a high powered sports car with all the comfort of a limousine. The Rapid is a no cam performance sail with incredible planing power, even more high end speed and perfect controllability in high winds. Added to these characteristics is the easiness of a camless sail for uncomplicated handling in all manoeuvres. The centre of effort of the new Rapid has been slightly moved forwards. The result is that the sail accelerates without much backhand or pressure on the back foot, this allows you to use smaller fins for more speed. Thanks to the 2 clew eyelets you can vary the trim individually, using the upper eyelet for more performance and the lower for more control. In comparison to the Future, the Rapid feels sportier, more direct and aligns itself to the performance of a slalom sail. The name says it all: if you get a Cannonball, you will fly across the water at incredible speed. This is the sail that will ignite your adrenalin rush. In the group of flat water sails, the Cannonball is King. Light the touch paper and you’re up and running even in the lowest of winds and once planing, nothing can stop you, you will blast through the lulls and accelerate to blistering speeds under full control. The Cannonball is designed with a medium-sized, conical mast sleeve, with 7 or 8 battens, depending on the size, in cross batten configuration and with 3 cams. A high performance and lightweight mast for all demanding sailors. Very dynamic with fast reaction speeds, it will provide every sail with the optimum twist and a maximum of performance. With its outer finish they are even more resistant.

The wave sails Steel and Transwave as well as the Torro and Space are completely compatible with standard masts and RDM. However, RDM is not suitable for our flatwater sails. Our flatwater sails are designed exclusively for standard diameter masts and get their best performance by using this type of mast. All Gun Sails masts are equipped with a universal top fitting. In this way, all of our masts can be used in sails of other brands which use a male pin system instead of a female top cap.

The most important component for a sail is the mast, both act as one unit. The right choice of a mast exerts a determining influence on the performance and handling characteristics of a sail. Technical criteria such as length, stiffness, bending curve and carbon percentage are all key parameters for the sail performance. They have an impact on the profile and the twist characteristics of the sail. Also the weight of the mast, depending on the carbon percentage, does impact on the feeling. Our mast line adapts perfectly to all Gun Sails sails, furthermore, our masts are also compatible with most current sails from other brands. With the A.C.E.S. mast line everyone can find the right mast to suit their personal performance requirements. From the Advantage to the Select, all Gun Sails masts are produced in high specification Prepreg Carbon Technology, whereas the carbon quality and percentages mark the separation between the different models. The individual material layers with precisely measured resin percentage are bonded in constant temperatures under high pressure in the well proven autoclave procedure. Our high-quality booms, made out of T8 aluminium, are perfectly adapted to differing ranges of use and can also be used with rigs from other brands. We have stressed great importance on easy handling, durability and stiffness. The slim 30 mm tubes are covered with a comfortable duo grip for fatigue-free sailing. The bending curves are individually matched to the different length and ranges of use. The axial suspension front end can be continuously adjusted for differing mast diameters and of course it fits just as well on RDM adapters.

For demanding sailors who require the maximum of performance a rig can offer. No lightweight construction, but therefore extremely stiff and robust. A successful combination of 100 % high tech carbon and a glance of luxury. The slim 31 mm tubes are covered with a comfortable duo grip for fatigue-free sailing. The bending curves are individually matched to the different length and ranges of use.

ORDERING You can place orders via telephone, fax, mail or Internet. Please always quote your full name and address as well as the delivery address if it is different from your home address, and your telephone number in case of any question. If you already have a customer number, please let us know as this will speed up the process, and note it clearly. If you have any further question, please do not hesitate to contact us. Delivery The delivery will be effected by UPS or another reliable carrier appointed by us. Deliveries abroad We have standard flat rate freight charges for most of the European countries. You will find these charges on our website at the ‘Service’ section (Shipping costs). For deliveries to all other countries, we will charge you with the accruing freight costs. Should you need further information on this point, just send us an email stating your required articles and we will let you know the exact amount of freight costs. Regarding deliveries in Non-EU countries such as Switzerland, Norway, etc., we will only charge you with the net price. The VAT of your country will be charged by UPS when delivering your parcel. In case you receive your delivery in Germany, but then you export the goods in a Non-EU country, you have the possibility of receiving back the German VAT (19%) by returning the original custom documents, which you will receive at the border when making the custom clearance, to us. We will then make a money transfer to your credit card or bank account for the relevant amount.

Deliveries within Germany Freight costs within Germany are € 15,00, for smaller items up to 3 kg and neoprene articles € 5,00. Delivery will be free of charge for 2 sails or a total order amount of more than € 500,00 (except boards). For articles to be sent later due to unavailability, there will be no additional freight costs. If you want to pay via Cash on Delivery, an extra fee of 5,00 Euro will be charged. Damaged Goods Please ensure that the receiver of the consignment inspects the outer packaging and the contents of all parcels before signing the carrier’s delivery note. If any part of your order is defective or missing, please reflect this on the carrier’s note e.g. «damaged in transit» or «1 parcel only received» etc. and refuse delivery of the damaged parcel only and contact us immediately. A signature of «received in good condition» will void any subsequent claim for damage in transit. Payment The prices quoted in our Online Shop are including German VAT (19%). For payment of your online order, you can choose from a payment via credit card (VISA or Mastercard), Cash on delivery (possible within EU countries except Greece, Norway and Switzerland) or payment in advance on our bank account. Should you require a payment in advance, please contact us and we will issue a Proforma Invoice. In case of payment with credit card, we ask you to state the complete number of the card (16 numbers), the expiry date, the owner of the card and the card verification number, which is on the backside of your card in the signature field, the last three digits.

We will charge the invoice amount before despatching the goods. For a payment «Cash on delivery» a surcharge of € 15,00 will be priced. RETURN OF GOODS Items that on reflection you feel are not right for you: You can return any item within 2 weeks after receipt and we will refund the selling price of the item on condition that the item is returned to us as originally packed, unused and undamaged. The customer will bear the freight costs of the return of articles. Items that show possible defects in materials and/or production processes: Should the item show possible defects in materials or production processes, we ask you to notify us about this immediately, whereas probable transport damages should be notified immediately to the driver. Please return these faulty goods back to us including a brief note describing the problem for us. Please contact us before returning bulky articles in order to find the most favourable way of sending it back. Please understand we will not accept receipt of goods that are not prepaid carriage. In case of a warranty repair or exchange, Gun Sails will bear the costs of the new delivery. CHANGES We reserve the right to make technical alterations for improvement of products and quality without prior notice. There could be minimal differences in colour due to the graphic representation on the screen and our catalogue or changes in production materials.
