REACHING NEW HEIGHTS WITH HISTORIC FIRSTS Walking the untrodden path or starting something never before attempted is clearly not an easy task. But opting for the “road less traveled” and never giving up against all odds have allowed us to achieve many “firsts.” We still have many roads to explore and many dreams to attain. Our efforts to expand our horizons and open a new era continue today as we aim to create more firsts and attain true excellence.

INNOVATIVE SPEED MANAGEMENT TRANSLATING INTO REAL RESULTS
18 months Subic Shipyard : Completed first phase construction in 18 months
9 times Underwater stern mounting method : Number of stern-area mountings is reduced from 14 to 5
80% LOL (Lifting Off Launch) : Cuts the launch period of a vessel by 80%
10-fold Vertical automatic welding method : Cuts welding time by 10 times
RESHAPING THE WAY WE THINK We overcame spatial constraints by using dams to build ships that are larger than dock size, skid system to shorten the dock working period, and underwater stern mounting method to surmount time limits. We built a massive shelter on the dock at Subic Shipyard to continue work even in frequent rains. Our advanced technology, unrivalled passion and challenging spirit powered us to turn crises into new opportunities, and transform constraints into a springboard to a new beginning.

CREATING NEW VALUE BY THINKING OUT OF THE BOX Most people said it was an impossible task given the adverse climate, weak infrastructure, and insufficient pool of engineers and technicians. However, we had faith that we would succeed. Thanks to our creativity to think out of the box, insight to look into the future and strong execution ability, we are successfully operating an international-size shipyard in Subic Bay of the Philippines which we completed ahead of schedule. We will continue to write more success stories with bold ideas and new value creation.

CORPORATE PROFILE CORPORATE PROFILE
Builder of world leading ships
LONG TRADITION OF FIRSTS
Founded in 1937 as the first steel ship builder in Korea, Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction (HHIC) has spearheaded advances in the shipbuilding industry and contributed to shaping Korea into the world’s foremost power in shipbuilding. With a focus on super large container ships,
Based on our global production system, we will reinforce our ability to build high value-added vessels and develop innovative techniques and building methods to emerge as a global technology leader. We are making the transition from “Korea’s starting point for shipbuilding” to the “center of the global shipbuilding industry.”
LNG carriers and large transportation ships, HHIC produces and supplies a wide range of vessels, from tankers to bulk carriers and special vessels, to prominent clients around the world.
Following construction of a large scale shipyard in Subic Bay Freeport Zone in the Philippines which began operating from 2007, we have secured an efficient global production system. In Korea, we operate the Yeongdo Shipyard which is supported by our plants in Yuldo, Ulsan and Dadaepo.
HHIC is now preparing for a new tomorrow. We are making the transition from “Korea’s starting point for shipbuilding” to the “center of the global shipbuilding industry.” Harnessing our global production network, we will construct high value-added container ships and LNG carriers while building up a strong presence in areas such as VLCC, offshore plants, and FPSO. We will also develop new and innovative technologies required for high value-added, high-tech vessels to secure global competitiveness. We will develop new and innovative shipbuilding techniques required for cutting-edge, high value-added ships to emerge as a global technology leader.

THE SHIPBUILDING INDUSTRY BY DEVELOPING HIGH-TECH SHIPBUILDING AND OFFSHORE PLANT TECHNOLOGIES
OUR R&D HISTORY IS INEXTRICABLY LINKED TO THE HISTORY OF SHIPBUILDING IN KOREA
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT HHIC is leaving its mark with unwavering commitment to innovation. Building GPE (grand pre-erection) blocks to shorten the construction period and erecting a dam to produce ships bigger than dock size – these techniques are the result of innovation and technology aimed at overcoming limits. Recently, we developed an EGW (electrogas welding) method which vastly shortens the welding period and a shelter that
