Bathroom Tips

Ideas for a new Bathroom Design When you are designing the layout and fittings of a new bathroom there are lots of things to take into account. You need to consider who will be using it, what they will be using it for (apart from the obvious) and what the budget is to build, decorate and fit the new bathroom. These are some things to bear in mind before, during and after the project; these are some new bathroom tips.

1. Plan it out It is always a good idea to plan your new bathroom out on paper in advance of buying or fitting anything. Use actual measurements, and remember to leave the correct amount of space around toilets, doors and sinks so that they can all be used effectively.

You can use pieces of paper that are cut to the correct size on an outline of the room that is to the same scale, and move them about to see what will fit where; you may find you have fewer options than you initially thought. Always budget in advance as well, whether you are fitting the bathroom yourself or getting a builder in, and leave extra in the budget for any problems or unforeseen expenses.

2. Consider your style It is great to choose a style of bathroom fixtures and dĂŠcor that you like, but if you intend to move house in the future bear in mind that bathroom suites can be seen as difficult to change and less conventional styles may put people off buying your home. As bathrooms tend to be fairly small, light colors help to create light and space, and clean looking colors generally suit bathrooms better as they are associated with washing and getting clean. Taps can make a big difference to the look and style of a bathroom, so try not to pick some that will date too quickly, although you can update them quite easily so this is less of a concern than the bathroom suite.

3. Choose the fixtures It may seem like the best idea to cram as much as you can into your new bathroom, but if space is limited you may be better going for quality over quantity. If you are having trouble fitting a separate bath and shower into the room, add a shower over the bath, but make it a good one and choose a P shaped bath that gives those showering a little more space.

Double sinks are nice to have, but not a vital component of a bathroom, so one quality, and spacious sink if often better than two sinks that look cramped. In some cases it may be best to leave the bath out all together and get a really good walk in shower with loads of space and a powerful pump; of course this is an easier choice if you have other bathrooms too.

4. Fake the flooring Tiling is a good and classic choice for a bathroom, but if you want a warmer feel or just a cheaper cost then linoleum is a good alternative. High quality linoleum is very comfortable under your feet, and the most recent types can look just like a tiled floor. Linoleum may not last as long as tiles, but is easier to fit and costs less. Tiling is the other option for bathroom floors; carpets are really not a good idea as they get musty quickly with the damp air and are easily stained. Tiles come in all sorts of shapes and sizes; if you are tiling an entire room try and see a large expanse of your chosen tile so that you can get an idea of what it will look like on a bigger space.

Designing a new bathroom means you have the option to put everything exactly where you want it; just consider all the practicalities for future uses as well as for yourself; get bathroom ideas from magazines, websites and friends houses so that you have a feel of what looks good; once you have fitted a new bathroom, tiled it and bolted all the extras on it is a little to late to start changing your mind so make sure you a certain of what you want in advance of starting the job.
