The concept behind the proposal is to expose the idea of the capsule as a living and multifunctional unit, examines its concept, opens it and traces its implications in the architectural discourse, as well as in general, rebuilding itself as a flexible typology and its forms of opening and adaptability for further exploration of the environment top view

The aggregation system offers the flexibility to reclaim public space and adjust its uses in emergency situations. Transforming squares into community service centres, pedestrian paths into new spots of services and shops that allow isolation and controlled social distancing. As well as the ephemeral installation of emergency nodes in strategic points of the neighbourhood unit through its portable architecture. and portability

A retrofitting strategy is proposed through the capsules on the existing tectonics in the neighbourhood, anchoring themselves to existing buildings; transforming its function and generating new mixed uses in the various social groups, or generating new buildings by assembling its own modules.

The modular unit functions as a parametric aggregation system allowing vertical and horizontal configurations. Its assembly does not require skilled labour or special tools. It is designed to be a portable, compact and lightweight system to transport around the same community or to be reproduced or sent to other cities.

The parametric simulation and optimization system saves manufacturing resources and takes better advantage of the climatic conditions of the context. By testing multiple occupancy variables and architectural programs based on the site, the morphology transforms the modular mass of the complex.

MORPHOLOGICAL OPTIMIZATION

From an economic point of view, the modularity, use of ecological materials, light, easy to assemble and low maintenance, facilitate the mass production and distribution of capsules. The strategy of reproduction and immersion of the system between the urban fabric and existing buildings, allows a symbiosis in which, through its advanced architecture, parameters related to space, context, population density, climatic conditions, the user and their activities are programmed.

In emergency situations, the strategy consists of disintegrating those ecosystems of social interaction concentrated in highdensity buildings and fragmenting their functional organization through capsules spread by sectors within the neighborhood, reclaiming public space. Offering a hybrid and flexible typology, with a controlled confinement that does not interrupt the operation of commerce and basic services. Sanitary control points, local markets or franchises with points with lower inventories in each block, offices by appointment in strategic locations to streamline services and a transformation of the existing space in balance with the ephemeral of the capsule for those sectors such as catering and retail, where the current premises can be used as a service spots and delivery point while the capsules would offer users the sanitary conditions and social distancing to enjoy the experience.

Aquiares, Turrialba - CR

Intelligent coffeetecture, Aquiares´s Coffeeculture Innovation Center, is a project that aims to use architecture as a regenerative and protective medium for the coffee activity that is developed in one of the areas most affected by phenomena derived from climate change and that in turn, represents one of the most important nuclei for the development of coffee at the Turrialba level, precisely in the community of Aquiares in Costa ThusRica. resulting in the creation of an innovation center where coffee is produced, generated and processed in an effective and avant-garde manner.

PIXL is a building between existing buildings; conceived as a retrofitting urban strategy, It´s program has areas for commerce, co-working, daycare, and apartments. In addition to the presence of a historical/cultural corridor that aims to provide all types of users a small sample of national art and culture. At a morphological level, the building is derived from a voxelization process based on the measurements of a selfsupporting programmatic module, then, by means of subtraction techniques, two volumetric “cracks” are generated to make the project more permeable to external phenomena thus giving it a pixelated appearance and distribution.

The project is the result of “Bifurcation” workshop, it consists of research, digital and artisanal manufacturing through a design proposal that allows to connect computational design methods by applying parameters that allow controlling the shape, bifurcating through multiple connections to create a branching system and an architectural application inspired by the columns designed by Antoni Gaudí found inside the main nave at the Sagrada Familia, Barcelona.

The process begins with the study of geometries that allow the creation of profiles that, when extruded along an axis, generate a column. For them, a series of profiles were tested as a catalog, predicting their behavior and shape through computer simulations with the assistance of Rhino and Grasshopper. For its architectural application, the Graphical Statics method was studied to allow a stable behavior of the structure resulting from the exploration of the form in pure volumes. With this, a canopy was designed that aims to connect the public space and insert itself into the urban silhouette. For the part that concerns manufacturing, we focus on the detail of the form through a column. We assemble the profile cut by CNC to a structure that contains two profiles that allow the profile to slide on the PVC trunk. By adding multiple layers of plaster and fibers, we achieved the symmetrical shape that was computed in the parametric design phase, resulting in the sculptural finish of the real columns.

Through experiments revolving around the production to consumption of spirulina we have explored the viability of Sphira as a closed ecosystem with the resultant being a nutritious flavour hacked superfood. The morphology strives for an apparatus that mimics cell structures in nature through cohesive symbiotic relationships. By highlighting the apparatus’ advanced technological attributes, individual mechanisms, and playful spirulina byproduct, Sphira attempts to develop a commentary on the possibilities of a microcosmic food generating system.

ReversDirecte Sphira is a multi-scalar apparatus that focuses on bringing public attention to the portable cultivation and innovative consumption of spirulina. By combining a working photo-bioreactor with the modern gastronomy process of spherification, this study seeks to find the best possible solution to an edible sphere by product. This fully automated device controlled by an interactive mobile application produces spheres containing high concentrations of live spirulina mixed with organic juices and Cannabis terpenes. By having a closed system with precise nutrient controls our bioreactor attempts to produce spirulina void of flavour whilst maintaining optimum nutrition. This allows us to add various components such as juices and terpenes to a concentrated spirulina solution that can then be formed into edible spheres. This study attempts to conceptualize an apparatus that highlights the functional and aesthetic attributes of cell structures. By exposing internal functions and accentuating mechanical processes, Sphira will develop a commentary on the adaptability and integration of cell-mimicry in tangible, functional objects. This study will highlight the importance of multi- cell relationships working as a cohesive unit by incorporating varying glass containers within a streamlined apparatus. In driving attention towards the process of spherification as a method of consuming spirulina the Sphira APP will also function as a way to distribute spirulina cultures to new Sphira apparatuses whilst encouraging users to form communities discussing varying terpene and flavour combinations.

The Magic Carpet is made up of wooden cross sections that create folded surfaces, which can be used as spaces to sit, rest or work. The idea behind the structural design is that the final model of the 3D surface should not be unfolded, so it can be automatically locked. The design also focuses on ergonomics, ensuring that an angle of between 90 and 160 degrees is maintained for user comfort, taking into account that the steeper the slope, the less it unfolds, therefore the structure is more resistant .

MAGIC CARPET

Data driven structure

The project combines architectural design, structural analysis, force and load simulation, digital fabrication, and manual assembly. What makes it really interesting is the fact that it geometrically / morphologically extends along one axis, where it structurally extends along the other. Initially, the structure would be installed at the IAAC facility as a new hall space between two existing bridges. Later, it was decided to turn the project into a mobile structure, let it fly and give the public space a new identity, allowing the users of the city of Barcelona to interact with it and take advantage of their own space in the various ways it offers.

CIM SHOWROOM

This project is located within the CIM building, the interior design intervention transforms the showroom into a dynamic space for the user to walk around the display of construction machinery. The company’s brand colors are implemented in fractal architectural elements that enhance the volumes from the walls and ceilings, with the addition of triangular geometric patterns that were parametrically incorporated to transform their scale along the space to generate movement.

The project covers an area of approximately 720 m² in the entire rear garden of the property. The proposal includes a swimming pool with a waterfall, a heated jacuzzi, a gym, a shower, a wine cellar and the landscape design. However, the volume that stands out the most is the design of the pool grill. A 71 m² covered space that includes a terrace, a bar, a grill and a grill. Its shape is inspired by a wave of the sea, simulating the fluid movement through its metallic structure that twists until it becomes a roof, generating shadow and permeability in space. A light space is projected almost free of columns, tensioned from the top and connecting through a column-waterfall that leads the water from the column to the pool.

Project Type: Interior design remodeling Facade - digital fabrication Construction and supervision Location: Managua - Nicaragua Area: 100 m² Year: 2017

It is a complete remodeling project to the existing building. The focal point of the project is developed through the digital fabrication of a perforated facade with a parametric pattern that generates the morphosis of geometric shapes that open, close and rotate; projecting shapes of light and shadows in contrast with the illuminated background of the facade. The store is exclusively for women’s fashion, it is therefore that personalized shopping experience is addressed in interior design through the zoning of products and accessories to detail, with small living areas and comfortable dressing rooms. The color palette is made up of pastel hues in contrast to gold and white, with details in the interior lighting fixtures and luxurious finishes.

Remodeling proposal in the existing store that aims to expand its facilities with a second level and renew the overall appearance of its facade. The two predominant volumes in the upper part are integrated with the tones that characterize the brand, taking advantage of its contrasting colors and degrading the orange tones that then are applied in the interior to bring unity to the design. The façade is made up of different panels mounted on a metal grid structure that gradually vary the permeability, size of panel perforations, their scale and rotation depending on the solar incidence in order to give comfort to the internal spaces for office and administration. In the lower part, the existing partitions are freed and the showcases that display the most recent merchandise are given greater prominence, emphasizing punctually with a warm ceiling lighting and providing an open space inside the store.
