Summative Evaluation (See Evaluation Guidance on next page for more information) You are required to write a 750 word Summative Evaluation of this module. Please type up your Summative Evaluation in the box below. Make a PDF of the document and post the PDF as your final post on your OUIL501 blog. I started this module by focusing my interest on two main themes, Social and Technology. I've been fascinated by how technological development had and is still changing the way humans behaviour and socialise each other. I picked them because I really wanted to explore and investigate the relation between the both of them, which led me to research into Social Media. After all the knowledge I acquired last year on Satire and critique, I wanted to keep this critical approach on my project, although this time being more specific on just one topic, which has been as I mentioned Social Media. I'm always a bit afraid of rushing to choose a theme or topic that at some point I will regret it, like it happened me in the past. That is why I really took care of this issue from the beginning and I decided to take my research further into something that I really want to know more about it, like Social Media. In order to approach to this topic, I needed to understand the modern society and how human behave and interact each other. I decided that in order to understand human behaviour, the best way to start to look at will be the father of the Psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud. My research on Freud's human psyche theory has been a key moment in my project development. Once I explored and understand how the human mind works, I could extend my studies and bring some more theories to contrast and triangulate. Another of my key moment was finding Sherry Turkle book " Alone Together", which led to the third corner of my triangulation with Sherry's Identity studies. The last key moment in my research was a more specific approach on Social Media with " The Darkside of the Social Media. Once I have my main three core texts, I felt like my ideas and concepts were taking form into more consistent thoughts and therefore, I could start to develop my own opinion through triangulation and contrasting three different contexts. This triangulation exercise really helped my to develop my critical awareness on specific topics, and at the same time and improvement on my academic skills, as I need to push myself to communicates my own ideas into an academic standard level. Furthermore, In order to apply my critical approach on my essay, I needed a visual example to contrast with. I picked as my visual reference, Black Mirror tv show, more precisely an episode which the context was relevant and related to my essay about Social Media. I really think that comparing and triangulate the theories with Black Mirror episode helped me to apply my critical thinking and I was able to bring all the pieces together to produce an interesting essay. During the research on my essay, all the core texts and articles I have been finding had played a really important role in the development of my practical work. Although my essay shared the same theme on my visual journal, on the journal I tried to expand the theory to new directions ( Still under Society and Technology). The journal has been divided into two sides, each one of them treating different but related topics. Side one is a critique about the direction of humanity thanks to technology development while side two is a critique of modern social media and therefore, more related to my essay. I think I produced some interesting satirical outcomes on both sides, linked to my theme and theories developed from Studio Brief 1.
Overall I think is a satisfactory project to present . Although I had some really bad time management issues from the beginning of the course, I think I pushed myself to the end and I was able to engage with the module. If I could do this module again, I would definitely improve my time management skills and therefore, be more active and constant through the course from the very beginning. This is something that I had to learn in the hard way this year and which I'm not proud at all. However, I learnt the lesson and I will not fail again on this bad habit for the next year as it has been hard at some point. I already finished my proposal for COP 3 and I'm willing to work on it during the summer, so at the beginning of the third year I won't have to face the same time management issues that unfortunately I lacked during COP 2 from this year.
