Throughout my life, change has been an important and even-present force. Through these changes I have come to embrace the narrative of life and use it as the main inspiration for my design. I view design as the mediator, the constant within the ever-changing tapestry of existence. Born and raised in France until adolescence, my views on the world of design are unique, rooted in both my north American present and my continental heritage.

Outstanding Studio Performance Award

The goal for this project was to design a resort in a location I was randomly assigned, Nicaragua, Central America. When designing a new space, I believe it’s about where you are heading, not where you already are today. So for this resort, it meant that a new sustainable concept needed to be implemented in a given building that did not fit in the standard architecture of the country. The project addresses immersive environments which, through interactive experiences, honest expressions of simple and natural materials, and a fluid, almost undetectable merging of interior and exterior spaces, endeavors to forge connections with the local community.

La Selva Restaurant | L2 Where local traditions meet modernity in a peaceful indoor-outdoor setting.

The Breezeway | L2 Upon entering the hotel, a fresh breeze and an infinite view of Nicaragua’s mountains immerses visitors into a refreshing and calming state of mind. Imagine yourself at the heart of a natural refuge, reserved for adventurers and nature lovers. The design remains simple yet tropical. Exotic patterns typically found in colonial architecture have been replaced by organic shapes created by materials themselves along with their shadows.

Facade

The Resort is divided between 6 floors • Public areas are grouped on the three lower floors, while residential areas are grouped on the last three levels. • Food and beverages are grouped in the west wing, assuring proximity between the two kitchens.

Building Site

Site Map

The resort’s site is strategically placed on the edge of a mountain on the perimeter of the Masaya volcano to favor both adventurous excursions and local culture without disturbing its natural surroundings. Other advantages include proximity to major public transportation access and the capital, Managua.

Environment Report

La Tierra Nica belongs to Club Med, the world leader in all-inclusive premium vacations for families and active couples around the world.

Promoting an appreciation for nature and its benefits is one of the founding principles of Club Med. For this reason, routinely incorporating an eco-friendly approach and standards into construction projects is key to maintaining its success.

The Peak Bar Lounge| L3 At the lounge, exotic juices and specialty cocktails can be appreciated at any time of the day. Located on the far east wing of the resort, the bar offers exquisite views on the lush rainforest and mountainous landscape of Nicaragua while favoring sustainable practices such as rainwater collection. The water structure has been directly inspired by the volcanic landscape and also serves as a sun barrier. This sustainable and tropical environment celebrates the festive spirit of the country through natural materials and exotic touches.

Penthouse Suite

Pond 7.1 m Each suite will be categorized by theme and will embody Nicaragua's characteristics. The Penthouse will welcome a family of explorers to seek refuge in one of the resort’s most breathtaking suites. Located on the 6th floor of the building, the penthouse offers a panoramic view of the Masaya Volcano and includes unique features including private Jacuzzis, a full size kitchen/bar, and an oversized walk-in showers on the edge of the mountain cliff. Here there is no extravagant dÊcor, but rather delicately placed vases and local sculptures, glass and wood accents, a modern yet locally flavored space.

Healthcare design isn’t often associated with positive emotions and while the environment doesn’t reflect the quality of the care given, as a designer it is crucial to help patients have a positive experience, visually and physically. The new design for the facility focuses on one’s experience through tactile stimulation, visualization, and comfort. Based on the concept of experiencing Beyond the Visual, the new outpatient clinic provides an energizing and familiar environment with a color palette inspired by human tones. The overall space portrays texture as well as concave and convex lines. The boundaries of the space become points of transition and connection, creating a natural flow within the clinic. The design goes beyond the surface of nature by blurring the lines between natural and human-made. For this reason, design decisions are influenced by nature but dictated by patients’ needs. Overall, the environment will promote well being and healing, helping to turn the negative emotions associated with healthcare to a more intuitive, encouraging, and accepting space.

Process Sket ches Main inspiration for ceiling structure.

Check-In &Waiting Room The outpatient clinic challenges the typical healthcare design by incorporating 3 three dimensional forms to resemble nature and restore healing. Those vivid shapes tend to be comforting and approachable and help renew the mind and the body through focal points and materialistic movements.

Facade Floor Plan Level 1 Eco Spa is a perfect balance between dated and modern. As the old Toys R Us closes its doors, new opportunities are created to breathe life into the dated structure. With 52, 132 square feet in our hands, the goal for this new space was to improve the lives and livelihoods of the Tallahassee community. My team and I decided to create a multi-level wellness center that focuses on enhancing the overall health of clients. The new facility offers a variety of treatments, classes, and regimens to help visitors reduce their load of stress associated with job pressure, health factors, and technology. The center supports a sense of holistic healing through physical, mental, and spiritual wellness.

The Central Sphere The center of the facility will act as the heart of community gathering. The architectural structure creates an intimate environment grounded by nature that resembles Tallahassee’s vernacular. Ramps that branch from the center consider stakeholders while taking them on an elevated journey directing them through the space.

The Reservoir The Reservoir serves as an area of solitude that allows members to interact amongst others in the community while taking a holistic approach to exercise and relaxation. Recessed LED lights act as a sense of wayfinding following the shape of the pool, creating curiosity to move deeper into the space. Changing planes of the ceilings defines personal and communal zones.

The Haven A serene introduction of natural elements subdue stress and begin to engulf the client in a relaxed state of being. Making one feel immersed, benefits the cognitive, affective, and behavioral lifestyle. The path creates a fluid journey towards the jacuzzi and carves into the treatment room integrating water as a part of their experience.

Serenity Spring Integrated organic forms add height and scale in the space, evoking inspiration and relaxation for clients awaiting their treatment. Cascading water and natural light fuse the boundaries between indoors and outdoors soothing their senses with visual elements and natural sounds. The water surrounding the interior, induces clients into a paradisiac state.

MC10, a healthcare technology company located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, strives to improve human’s well-being by giving clients a new outlook on their health. The new design embraces the idea of renaissance, rebirth & change, by enhancing the human experience through a luxurious and refreshing environment. The design was achieved by balancing vertica elements on the perimeter of the building, which accentuates the grandeur of the space, with lower and more intimate settings located at the heart of the building. The goal for the project was to design a dynamic space that supports and uplifts employees along their journey and growth within the company.

Welcome Over Summer 2019, I had the opportunity to intern with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. in the Workplace Solutions Department. One of the main projects I worked on was to redesign the entire lobby at their Miramar location. As the lead designer, the goal for the design included everything from material selection and modeling to the flow and security of the space. The design supports a fresh and modern approach balanced with simplicity and elegance. To maximize successful design communication, Revit and Lumion were used to design and render the drawings. This project was the first 3-dimensional design created for the Workplace Solutions Department. The proposal of the new Miramar lobby became a selling point for the 3D program Revit, allowing my department to evolve towards the 3D world.

Concept The design for the home in Colorado will be based on the concept of a telescope. Its ability to resolve small details through such a simplistic looking object, will inspire the space by mixing both complex yet simple and functional features; industrial yet modern. Its linearity will be expressed throughout the space. The materials will combine both the hardness of metals and stones as well as the more natural and softer materials. This will emulate two different perspectives: the outside structure as well as what can be observed through it, nature. Following this idea, both straight and curvy lines will be used referring to the circular yet linearity of the telescope. Furthermore, the design will have different “dimensions. Changing in levels will be emphasized by different ceilings and furniture heights. The new residents will be able to see beyond spaces beyond each room, playing with transparency as well as using variety openings. This will create connection and fluidity throughout the home giving a sense of tranquility. The playful aspect of the telescope will be represented in the overall design using material and level transitions. A darker yet neutral color palette will be used to give that sense of serenity. Finally, the space will feel grounded by emphasizing verticality as well as contrast between materials. The final design will be aesthetically pleasing, comforting, and functional; making it effortless for the couple to age in the home. The modernity and futuristic feel of the telescope will be balanced with simplicity and diversity.
