This book is an altered rendition of a 1925 printing of The Evolution of Industry by D H MacGregor, originally published in 1911. In his book he outlines the changes which gave rise to the condition of the working classes. His study occupies a territory that activates exploration of the rapid advance in industry and the effects on the social environment which is so great a feature of this critical time. This publication comprises images of the transformation into charcoal of MacGregor’s book and selected excerpts alongside a series of reproduced linocuts that acknowledge the integral labour force in settings at the Dunedin Gasworks.
