PROJECT DESCRIPTION Short description of the project YMCA LEADERS AROUND THE WORLD is designed to connect YMCA Siderno with different YMCA movements and people, allowing volunteers to live a "different" YMCA, and gain more knowledge of the area and the spirit that moves our organization at an international level. The idea of this project is based on the needs of young people from the Siderno area, who are looking for international experience. This is thought to be important because the history of YMCA Siderno is mainly based on international partnerships and relations. The goal for YMCA Siderno is to revive the international network which was there in the past and create a strong link with other local YMCAs that operate on similar levels. This project was designed and lead by YMCA Siderno Change Agent, Mario Trichilo. LOCATION: SIDERNO, Calabria, ITALY DURATION: From 3 to 6 weeks DEAD LINE TO APPLY: May 1st, 2017

ABOUT US

History of YMCA SIDERNO For over sixty years, the Association YMCA of Siderno has been training and providing support for young people, in order to promote their physical, moral and spiritual growth. Founded in 1947 by volunteers, it soon became a meeting point for hundreds of young people. The YMCA has enabled many youth to have their first basketball shoes (as well as other more essential objects, such as food, blankets, clothes, etc.). The association has also provided the first public locker rooms in the area. In addition, it has been one of the first companies to get affiliated to the Italian Basketball Federation, being able to play the first official meetings in 1956 and later became one of the first organizations willing to accommodate groups of young people from abroad as part of an exchange programme, leading to being one of the most important meeting point and youth associations at local and regional level. Nowadays, the YMCA Siderno runs different programmes such as basketball and mini basketball, football, child care and after school clubs, cooking classes and Italian course for immigrants and refugees and is rapresented in many international activity.

VOLUNTEERING be part of our team

YMCA Siderno is looking for international, dynamic and committed volunteers to work with young people. The main purpose of the YMCA Siderno is to add capacity to its summer programme activities and, at the same time, provide a learning and cultural experience to foreign YMCA young leaders. YMCA Siderno wants to ensure that volunteers will have a unique experience of personal and professional growth. This will also help us to achieve our goals in promoting and delivering our summer programmes. VOLUNTEERING HOURS: Volunteers will normally work six days a week (Monday to Saturday) with a standard week being around 35 hours excluding evenings and weekends. DURATION: From 3 to 6 weeks. YMCA Siderno gives the opportunity to choose from a minimum of 3 weeks up to 6 weeks, starting from July 1st, 2017 ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD: Food and accommodation will be provided (an apartment is rented by YMCA Siderno for the duration of the programme). FREE TIME: Volunteers will have one day off in a week scheduled depending on the programmeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s activities. In addition, they will accrue 1 additional free day per month.

WORKING AREAS

where your support is needed Volunteers will support YMCA Siderno staff in different specific areas, and will work alongside one of them according to their background skills as follows:

Communication and social media: Promotion and visibility of the summer events for the 2017 season with focus on social media. Volunteers will work together with the communication officer to implement the social media strategy and actively post on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat.

Sports Activities: Basketball and mini basketball are 2 of the main sport activities that YMCA Siderno provides to young people. Volunteers will be supporting the head coach during training, mainly with the mini-basket as the kids need the most assistance.

Summer programme: The core activities of YMCA Siderno are summer childcare where the volunteers will support YMCA Siderno staff to run daily activities for young people. In all cases, participants will be part of a team and will be supported and supervised by the YMCA Siderno staff.

HOW IT WORKS?

Requirment, cost and application REQUIRMENT - Minimum 18 years old - Passion for Communication and Social Media and/or Sports and Child Care - Previous experience that is relevant to the area(s) of interest will be a benefit. - Good knowledge of English -Previous experience working with children, youth and adults in a community/sport/education environment.

COSTS: YMCA Siderno will support the volunteers by covering the costs for food and accommodation. The participants will be accommodated on a dedicated 3 private bedroom apartment and will have a free parasol/lounger at the YMCA Siderno Beach Resort to enjoy the summer. Travel costs to and from Siderno are not included.

PARNERSHIP

Lets build something together YMCA Siderno is looking for international YMCAs partners, in order to develop its international programme and to promote skills and resources. Together the partner YMCAs will explore ways to help the YMCA Siderno to become more self-sufficient and raise funds for local programmes and facilities. Through exchanges, staff and volunteers learn from each other's strengths and benefit from different cultures. The YMCA Siderno is also committed to build valuable, long-term partnerships founded on shared values, clear expectations, complementary skills and open communication. The aim is to create relationships where mutual benefits and enhanced reputations are delivered to all stakeholders and their communities, and programming is achieved to its highest potential.
