ABOUTME

I am currently finishing my final year of my master's program in architecture at the University of Oregon. I have an interdisciplinary work history, with strengths in social justice issues, affordable residential housing, and multi-media design. My work in education and residential life has significantly impacted my design intentions throughout my graduate school experience. Working first hand in these fields, I want to work in collaboration with communities to create accessible, inclusive, and affordable architecture projects. I have developed strong research skills through my work as a Teaching Fellow in the History Department, which has strengthened my conceptualideasinstudioprojects.Iamhopingtoworkwithprofessionalswithsimilar community goals to re-conceptualize what affordable housing could look like within anurbancontext.

Winter-Spring2023| ProfessorClayNeal

TheWillametteRiverhaschangeddrasticallysince the forced relocation of the Kalapuya people. The oncewinding“braiding”Willamettehassincebeen narrowed and deepened for trade and transport since the occupation of colonialist settlers. This affordable housing project aims at creating middlehousing in an R1 Zone while allowing for annual flooding to revitalize this reclaimed golf course.

MINE|SEED

The Formosa Mine site in Douglas County extracted copper, zinc, and thorium between 1910-37 and for severalyearsintheearly1990s.

It is Oregon’s most polluted Superfund site with cleanup effortsexpectedtoexceed$10 million. Stormwater-driven contaminants have led to the dischargeofmillionsofgallons ofacidrockdrainageandtoxic metalsintotheupperreaches of the Middle Creek watersheds every year. One potential remediation strategy istoaddlimestonetoalkalize theacidwaterwhichthreatens the salmon, steelhead, and otheraquaticlife.

While the politics of environmental cleanupcontinue, therevivalofthe mine site is supported by natural systems. Idaho Fescue is a local copper-tolerant grass and one of the first pioneer plants on polluted minesites.Thegrasshelpstobuild soil and provides food and forage, attracting birds, deer, and black bears back to the site. These animals in turn support seed transportofanothernativeflora, the Osoberrytree, byeatingitsfruitand depositing the seeds elsewhere. REBUILDING CORNERSTONES: BLACK DOMESTICITY

Thegoalofthisstudiowasto deconstruct Eurocentric aesthetics in architecture through research of the gentrification of the Albina DistrictinPortland,Oregon. Weweretaskedwithfourassignments: reimagining iconography, reconstructing icons, creating Black space, and designing for Black domesticity. This project was in collaborationwiththe Spatial Justice Initiative at the University of Oregon andAlbinacommunitymembers.

ROSA'S VILLAGE

Spring2021|ProfessorRobThallon

Rosa's Village is a transitional tiny home community in collaboration with Square One Village in Eugene, Oregon. We created a design proposal of a developed site with tiny home and duplex units to accommodate the needs of this diverse community.
