Are Limited Edition Products Worth It? I have always been a fan of unique and special edition products. I find if I purchase one of these items, whether it is a piece of clothing or jewellery, it is almost always as a special treat and luxury. However I have noticed an increase in the number of people discrediting these items as a marketing trick used to entice customers to buy the products, this is something I do not agree with. Limited and special edition products are now available everywhere with a majority of companies and businesses endorsing special or limited edition products in their collection. From coins and plates to DVDs and prints, collectors and customers purchase these exclusive items, but are they worth it? It could be argued that having 'limited edition' stamped on a product is purely a marketing move used to attract customers to view and potentially buy a product. Sales have shown that selling these limited edition products has a positive direct effect on brand differentiation and so has extremely positive results for the producer. There may not be much difference between a special edition of a film, for example, and the original. However due to good use of branding a customer may purchase the film believing it to be more special than it is. On the other hand though, these items are viewed by the customer as having increased value so they must be worth purchasing. But the difference between special and limited edition items is often confused. Limited edition items are made in restricted numbers whereas special edition items tend to have a higher quality and may be an extension of an original product. From this it is clear to see that the value of the limited edition products stems from exclusivity. A restricted number of items are produced so a restricted number of people will be able to have access to these items. They are luxury items that are a valuable purchase to you as an individual. Not everyone will be able to purchase the same item. Many limited edition products can have historical significance. For example coins, a popular collector's item, have been made for thousands of years and are a symbol of artistry. Limited edition coins have been released by the Royal Mint this year in celebration of the London 2012 Olympics as well as for the Queens Diamond Jubilee celebrations. In years to come these coins will no doubt increase in value and become even more exclusive. In terms of limited edition clothing, having a unique item can be an opportunity for a person to indulge and treat themselves to a luxury piece of clothing. There are a huge range of clothing brands that produce these unique designs and give people the chance to treat themselves to something special and stand out from the crowd. luxury bedding collections
