Matuku Funerals
Once you have decided on a funeral home, you can design something that is authentic to your personality, without the emotional strain. Another benefit to pre-planning, is that it is good self care. Once done, you no longer need to worry and can get on with living your best life!
Funerals are for the living, and help our family and friends to honour and celebrate us. A funeral gives our loved ones a chance to say goodbye, and to be supported by others in their grief.
The funeral is also our last chance to express ourselves to those we love, by conveying what has been most important to us, in our life. A meaningful farewell is a special gift to those left behind.
Matuku Funerals is independently owned and located in Golden Bay, and specialises in providing excellent family-focused funeral services, burials and cremations for locals, on both sides of the Takaka Hill.
With pre-planning, we can be sure to deliver the service you envision for yourself, in your chosen setting, and honour your style and culture. We do this with empathy, compassion and creativity.
Don’t want your funeral to cost the earth? We specialise in professional, affordable eco-funerals, traditional services, and personalised celebrations. We use local suppliers whenever possible. We can either work with your designated celebrant or clergy, or co-owner Laura Manson has professional celebrant training in Humanist, and Christian services.

Shone & Shirley Funeral home
Shone and Shirley Funeral Directors are a family owned and operated funeral home, caring for families across the top of the South Island.
The team goes above and beyond the call of duty to make personalised funeral arrangements that are delivered to family and friends with compassion.
Shone and Shirley was Nelson’s first funeral home established in 1862. The business has a significant history in the area running for over 160 years.
Owners and Funeral Directors, Alastair and Emma Hebberd and the team, take great care in making sure everything is organised on the day of a funeral to reflect the life of a loved one, in a personal and meaningful way. Making the extra effort to ensure each service is personalised is at the heart of the Shone and Shirley team.
In 2019, Alastair and Emma became the seventh owners of the funeral home. Alastair is one of the few fully qualified funeral directors and embalmers in Nelson, with over 20 years of experience in caring for families, working in funeral homes across Nelson and Marlborough, both family owned and corporate overseas owned funeral homes. From his wide experience he has learned the importance of supporting and connecting with the local community.
Alastair and Emma are proud of their team who come from a range of backgrounds giving understanding and support to families and friends at the time of their loved one’s death. We are proud of our purpose built facilities which are warm, calm and inviting, giving families privacy and peace of mind that their loved one is cared for respectfully in a well appointed environment.
It is important to the team to give support to families experiencing grief during this time as much as possible. We are proud to have a calm and kind environment to help support families.

Funerals ... who wants to know about them, who wants to talk about them? Some of us do, some of us don’t, but no matter what there will be a time when that day needs to be faced, and questions answered about family history that perhaps only you know the correct answers to.
