BCCT EASTERN SEABOARD REPORT – APRIL 2012 Industry 1. Chevrolet Thailand is increasing its production capacity in response to a planned increase in the company’s exports and the dramatic increase in domestic sales growth it has experienced. Sales for the first quarter increased by 126%, to 15,300 vehicles. The company would increase its capacity by moving to three shifts said company President Martin Apfel. 2. The Thai Summit group will spend Baht 9 billion to expand its parts plants in support of the Auto industry this year. This will include the construction of a new phase at its current plants in Laem Chabang and Rayong. Summit expects revenue of Baht 60 billion for 2012, up 20% on 2011. 3. Thai rung Union Car expects revenue growth of about 33% to more than Baht 3 billion in 2012. Additional capacity from the new 300 million baht factory in Rayong will come online this month with full capacity being reached by the 4th quarter. 4. 3 Mataphut projects have been blocked by the Commission on the environment and Health. These are an electricity re-generation plant, a propylene plant (Baht 125 million investment by US company Dow Chemicals) and a project that would manufacture ethylene oxide. All 3 were said to be potential sources of pollution and more details were needed. 5. Samsung electronics plans to make Thailand its regional base for its visual display business in order to benefit fully from the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015. The key criteria, which Thailand fulfils, are cost effectiveness and short delivery lead time. Samsung is likely to develop its base on the Eastern Seaboard. 6. Suzuki Motors Thailand is gearing up to manufacture is gearing up to launch the manufacture of a second Eco Car, the Alto at its Rayong plant. Suzuki is also considering relocating some of its production from Japan to Thailand 7. Mazda and Ford both reported further growth in March. Sales for Mazda were over 6000 vehicles; with first quarter growth was up 675 on last year to 14,200 vehicles. FORD also reported sales of 3,305 vehicles , an increase of 28% on the same period last year 8. Global Steel Dust (Thailand) Ltd, a manufacturer of Recycle of Electric Arc Furnace dust generated by the steel Industry and manufacturing of Waelz Zinc Oxide and Waelz Irin Products recently signed an agreement to Purchase land in Amata City Industrial Estate, Rayong Province, 59.8 rai 9. Hemaraj Energy Company Limited (Hemaraj Energy signed an agreement with Gulf JP Company Limited to jointly invest in Gulf JP NLL Company Limited (GNLL). With a total investment of 5.5 billion baht, GNLL will develop 126 megawatt SPP Project to supply power to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and industrial estates customers. Hemaraj Energy will hold 25.01 percent share in GNLL

Amata Corporation, industrial estate operator, expects to sell 3,000 rai of land this year, aiming for revenue of Baht 4 billion on continued expansion by Chinese and Japanese investors 11. Rojana Industrial Park has launched an ambitious plan to invest up to Baht 3 billion on expansion with Rojana Rayong 2 now under construction. This will be used to accommodate increasing demand form automobile and electronics industries

MBK, who will acquire the land the Montien hotel is currently build on in January 2013 are considering several ideas for this premium piece of land including selling it or developing the site into a mixed use development of commercial complex, hotel and condominiums. Development is expected to take between 4 to 6 years 13. Hemaraj land and development has raised its forecast for the year from land sales of 1,500 rai to 1,700 rai following first quarter sales of 928 rai, an increase of 197% on the same period last year 14. Residential development in Chonburi continues unabated with a recent survey by the Agency for Real Estate Affairs showing that currently 534 new residential projects were found to be in progress with 87,500 units at an average of Baht 2.82m per unit Tourism 15. The Thailand convention and Exhibition Bureau has made Pattaya the MICE city role model for all key destinations in the kingdom. This is in recognition of the city developing sic different types of meeting models. These are adventure tourism, history and culture, factory site inspections, green tourism activities, corporate social responsibility and luxury tourism projects. 16. Pattaya City’s latest study on hotel room accommodation availability showed the city now has over 400 properties that reach international standards, with a combined capacity of 28,459 rooms. 17. Minor International will invest Baht 20 billion over the next 5 years to drive growth in both its restaurant and hotel business. Expansion of its current hotel brands including Anantara, Oaks and Avani, Minor will also develop new brands. In the food business, now opportunities will also be maximized.
