BCCT EASTERN SEABOARD REPORT – AUGUST 2012 Industry 1. Tadano (Thailand) Co., Ltd. a subsidiary of one of the world leading manufacturers of hydraulic cranes recently held the Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony for its new factory on 18 rai in Hemaraj Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate. Expected to be completed and ready for operation by the second quarter of 2013, the plant will produce truck mounted cranes for Asia, Middle East and Africa 2. TSN Wires Co., Ltd., a joint venture between The Siam Industrial Wire Co., Ltd. (SIW) and Nichia Steel Works Ltd., a direct affiliate of Nippon Steel Corporation, recently held the Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony for its new factory on 35 rai in Hemaraj Rayong Industrial Land. Expected to start operation in July 2013, the new factory will produce zinc-plated wire at a capacity of 36,000 tonnes per year for supply to local and overseas market 3. Futuris Automotive (Thailand) Co., Ltd. recently held the Ground Breaking Ceremony of its 2nd factory in Hemaraj Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate. Covering an area of 8,234 sqm., the new factory will produce automotive seating and interior products for Thailand market and for export. Construction of the 2nd plant is expected to be completed and ready to start production by February 2013.Futuris is a global leader in automotive seating and interior design owned by Australia’s Elders Limited 4. Foster Wheeler AG have announced that a subsidiary of its Global Engineering and Construction Group has been awarded a contract by Samsung Engineering Co. Ltd. (Samsung) for a waste heat recovery unit for PTT Public Company Limited's (PTT) Power Generation and Heat Recovery project at the Map Ta Phut Industrial Complex in Thailand. In 2010, Foster Wheeler successfully delivered two similar waste heat recovery units to Samsung for PTT 5. The cabinet has approved the State Railway of Thailand’s proposal to build a double-track railway from the eastern province of Chachoengsao to Kaeng Khoi in Saraburi, estimated to be worth 11.3 billion baht 6. The Labour Ministry is set to speedily tackle the problem of labor shortages in the construction sector. Labour Minister Phadermchai Sasomsub said that the construction industry is now experiencing a shortage of labor because of last year's flood crisis. Mr. Phadermchai is urging business operators, who are in need of workers, to contact the Labour Ministry, which will try to find the right types of labour to supply them. He added that if any company would want to bring in immigrant workers from Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia, they are advised to make a request through respective associations in order to allow for higher negotiation leverage while discussing the issue with the government 7. Honda announced that it is planning to move some of the production of its bike models due to the strength of the yen and high labour costs in Japan. Initial production will be at their factory in Lat Krabang however expansion is very much on the agenda and further facilities are being looked at and considered 8. Global Steel Dust, the Swiss based company is said to be considering moving its steel-dust recycling plant to another country after suffering 15 months of delay on approval for its new plant in Amata City. It is currently waiting on the BOI approval for its operations due to a discussion on legislation with regards to dust re-cycling

Real Estate and Retail 9. Hemaraj Land and Development Public Company Limited announced the Industrial Estate Sales of 1st Half of 2012 being 1,447 rai, an increase of 88% from the prior year. There were 67 contracts comprising 44 new customers and 23 project expansions from existing customers. Of these contracts more than 50% are Japanese and more than 30% are automotive 10. The Pattaya Condominium market remains strong despite global economic blues according to recent reports by both Knight Frank Thailand and Colliers International. Development is continuing in low, medium and top end of the market with Jomtien featuring heavily as an area of development. Large scale resort type condominiums are all attracting attention
Tourism 11. Movenpick Hotels and Resorts announced that it will increase its presence in Thailand by having four destinations next year. The 264 room Movenpick White Sands in Pattaya will open in October 2013 12. Bangkok Pattaya Hospital will spend THB 220m on new medical equipment and the development of more special clinics during the remainder of 2012 13. Longer Visas have now been approved for medical tourists visiting Thailand. 90 day visa’s for six middle east countries have now been approved for those visitors with medical appointments in the country, rather than the previous 30 days
