BCCT EASTERN SEABOARD REPORT – MARCH 2012 Industry 1. Bridgestone Tyres have announced plans for a THB 19 billion plant in Amata City Industrial Estate to produce off-road radial tyres for mining and construction vehicles. Construction will start in the first half of 2015 however an initial phase of investment will be for steel cord used in off road radial tyres, producing 85 tonnes per day 2. Electrolux is setting up its first ASEAN based refrigerator factory in Rayong which it expects to be fully online by 2015 with approx 80% of the product for the export market 3. The Port Authority of Thailand is ready to launch the second phase of the e-gate project at Laem Chabang Port. This will see the expansion of the service to more gates at the port thus allowing vehicles entering the port to use cash cards for payments. 4. LG Electronics is investing a further THB 1.8 billion on marketing, capacity increase and efficiency improvements at its Rayong factory. LG is focusing on the air conditioner market for 2012 where a growth on over 105% is being forecasted, with sales in excess of 1.1m units 5. Thailand is currently the fastest growing market for Ford Motor Company. Ford sales and service sold 29,200 units last year. Up 144% on 2010. Ford will continue to push local sales through new product launches and dealership expansion 6. Thai Oil has announced plans for a THB 300m linear alkyi benzene facility at its oil refinery in Chonburi’s Si Racha district. This project is part of the company’s five year plan for projects that include oil pipelines, an oil terminal, deep sea port improvement and a power plant 7. HP is planning its second manufacturing facility outside of China for printers to be set up and is looking strongly at Thailand as a possible destination for the plant. 8. Toyota Motor Corporation of Japan announced a THB 6 billion investment in increasing its engine production at its Amata Nakorn plant. The expansion program will begin immediately, with it being fully online by 2014. Capacity will grow to 840,000 engines per year, 10% of Toyota’s global production 9. Staedtler, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of coloring and drawing instruments will expand its Thai factory at Laem Chabang, making it a regional hub for its exports to ASEAN markets 10. Samsung Engineering Co., a leading South Korean industrial plant builder has announced it has won a $60 million order to build an industrial facility in Thailand. The contract reached with the state-run Public Company Ltd. calls for Samsung Engineering to build an electricity and steam supply unit for a gas ethane separation plant at Rayong’s MapTaPhut industrial complex in the eastern part of the country

A two building, 143 unit project will focus on comfort and relaxation in addiion to the majestic views its location affords 12. NC Housing plans to launch six new residential projects in 2012, with two of the six earmarked for Chonburi province Tourism 13. Red Planet hotels opened its Tune Hotel Pattaya, 2nd road, near Tiffany cabaret show, its second such hotel in Thailand. The 192 rooms all follow the Tune pay as you use branding style with rates varying from THB 599 TO THB 1,490. The concept is the hotel model of the low cost airline sector 14. Siam Motors Group has joined with IMG golf design to build a 3rd course at Siam Country Club Pattaya. The 18 hole course on 525 rai will be next to the current Old course and be named Siam Country Club Pattaya New Course. Investment is estimated at around THB 500m 15. Le Concorde Group, owner of Swissotel Bangkok, has announced plans for a 300 room hotel on Pattaya Jomtien Beach worth THB 1.2 with construction to start in the 4th quarter of 2012 16. Pattaya City will spend THB 140 million to upgrade the landscaping along Pattaya beach as it waits for government approval for its erosion-repair project. A further THB 380 million of funding has also been requested from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in order to re-build the beach. A decision is still pending on the approval of these funds 17. The Chonburi Provincial Administration Organization is forecasting by 2015 that 10m tourists, both domestic and International, will come to the province, generating in excess of THB 100 per year 18. Turner Broadcasting System Asia-Pacific has announced plans for the world’s first cartoon network themed water park in Bang Sarey, 20 miles south of Pattaya. Being built on 35 rai of land at a cost of THB 1 billion it will feature lush Amazon rainforest, waterfalls and a wide range of attractions. The Park when open is expected to attract 800,000 visitors a year. No date was given for construction to start.
