BCCT EASTERN SEABOARD REPORT – MAY 2012 Industry 1. Toshiba Corporation has announced that it will re-build its semiconductor manufacturing operations in Thailand by relocating Toshiba Semiconductor Thailand Co., Ltd. (TST) to a new manufacturing facility. The new facility will be located at the 304 Industrial Park, Prachinburi 2. Mazda Sales (Thailand) has set its sales target at 60,000 vehicles for the year 2102, up 18,000 0n 2011. From a 2% market share in 2010, Mazda has seen this grow to a current level of 5.3% 3. Hino Motors have launched a new light duty truck model, the Series 3 Expert model. Demand for trucks and pick-ups is estimated to grow 65% this year and HINO who have a 505 market share in the heavy duty segment, hope to capitalize now in the light truck market 4. Continental Automotive has secured a Euro 70 loan to produce car parts that enhance fuel efficiency in Ayutthaya province. The loan will help finance a plant producing injection components run by Continental Automotive Thailand 5. General Motors Thailand will add a third shift to its Rayong assembly line for the Chevrolet Colorado to support its sales around the world. The Duramax engine plant will also follow suit to a third shift next month 6. Electrolux starts new factory at Hemaraj to manufacture both household and industrial appliances. Construction has started on the plant 7. Ford’s Thailand passenger car plant will formally start production on June 26. The plant will focus on producing 1000 vehicles a month of the all new focus model 8. FORD and Mazda will invest a further US 27m in their Auto Alliance joint venture to upgrade the pickup truck line and increase capacity by another 20,000 vehicles a year. This will bring their pick up production up to 195,000 vehicles a year 9. Mitsubishi have opened their new Laem Chambang plant, producing the new Mirage which will be built here in Thailand for its main market of Japan. Yearly production is forecasted at 100,000 p.a. vehicles with this rising to 200,000 p.a. within 24 months 10. Siam Industrial wire signed a contract to set up a new factory in Rayong in a JV with ichia Steel Works, Japan 11. Automotive Output reached a record 190,935 vehicles spurred on by a surge in domestic sales. Production in March grew 11% year on year and 145 from February 12. Thailand has been selected as one of the 20 growth countries that IBM will focus on for investment with Chonburi chosen to receive an IBM Smarter Cities Challenge grant 13. MapTaPhut will pilot a two year project planned to provide energy saving technology for the Maptaphut Industrial estate. The project at a cost of 45m Baht will be supported by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization. Companies involved include PTT, Siam Cement, Vinythai and Indorama

In an attempt to avert a repetition of the 2005 drought crisis, the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) is closely monitoring the drought in the East, coordinating with concerned agencies to ensure adequate water supply for the eastern industrial estates, IEAT Governor Veerapong Chairperson said on Friday. The governor said the water level in three reservoirs in the east dropped to 50 per cent of their capacity in April this year, similar level to that in April 2004 prior to the 2005 drought crisis when the water level fell to only 15 per cent of the reservoirs’ capacity 15. Hemaraj Land And Development Public Company Limited have announced an increase of their 2012 land sales target to 2,000 rai from an earlier announced target of 1,700 rai. The company foresees the 2012 operation will hit another record level with 40-50% increase in its operating revenue, 60% increase in Ready Built Factories and Warehouses for rent, and 20% increase in industrial estate utilities 16. Union Pattaya Property plans a mixed development that combines condominiums, shopping and a hotel with investment of Baht 3 billion in Pattaya. Work is yet to start but it is though completion to be by 2017. Tourism 17. The long-awaited expansion of Suvarnabhumi Airport, to a capacity of 60m passengers looks poised to commence this year. If all goes as planned, the Baht 62.5 billion program will be a step closer to reality when a project management consultant (PMC) is appointed next month. The Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) board is expected to endorse at its May 17 meeting one of the three firms vying for the lead role in the project. The project should be completed by 2018 18. Hemaraj Announced the acquisition of 228 rai for an integrated resort, leisure, entertainment and real estate development at Koh Lan Pattaya Bangkok called “Million Island Pattaya”. This will serve the vast tourism and business needs of Pattaya with 8 million tourists as well as the industrial development of the Eastern Seaboard of Thailand 19. The high speed rail link between Bangkok and Rayong (221km) is again being discussed at cabinet level along with 3 other similar projects. Total investment is Baht 300 billion
