Beau Minnick What is so wonderful about residential real estate? Every day, I wake up excited. I know that I will get the opportunity to help my clients find the home of their dreams or be their advocate for one of the most important transactions of their lives. I’ve dedicated my life to helping others. In 2007, I moved to the Triangle to work as a television reporter for WRAL-TV. Quickly, I realized how unique this community is. Neighborhood to neighborhood, town to town, I traveled across our area and met so many wonderful people, helping to share their story with the world. I spent more than a decade working at WRAL and WNCN in Raleigh. By then, I recognized how rapidly our community was growing. In 2018, I joined the staff at the Raleigh Chamber, helping business owners take advantage of one of the most thriving business environments in the country. Part of the reason for that? We have an incredible community. Businesses and people want to call the Triangle home. Wake County alone is growing by 64 people a day! You probably can guess now where I saw another opportunity to use my experience to help people. That’s why I’m excited. I get to work every day with an amazing team of people at Berkshire Hathaway Home Services York Simpson Underwood. And, most importantly, I get to work with you. My wife and I are so proud to raise our son in this community. We truly are rooted in Raleigh. Smooth Transition to a New Home 4 WEEKS BEFORE MOVING • Contact and contract with a reputable moving company. • Have school records transferred. • Arrange to transfer or transport medical, dental, and other important records. • Transfer homeowner’s and auto insurance to be sure of continuous coverage. • Hold a garage sale, donate unneeded items, and place excess items in storage. • Keep track of moving-related expenses, and see what expenses are deductible.
3 WEEKS BEFORE MOVING • Obtain and mail change-of-address cards to the post office, subscriptions, credit card companies, and important contacts.
2 WEEKS BEFORE MOVING • Arrange for final utility readings at the former residence the day after moving out, and have utilities and phone turned on at the new home the day before moving in. • Close, update or transfer bank accounts. • End or transfer newspaper delivery service. • Arrange for transfer of vehicle licenses and drivers’ licenses. • Have an extra supply of prescription medications for the next four weeks. • Schedule a final walk-through of the property; make sure everything is in order.
MOVING WEEK • Keep valuable financial records and personal papers on-person; do not pack them with the rest of the household goods. • On closing day, the home purchase documents are recorded an the home is now yours. • Move in.
AFTER MOVING IN • Consider plans for landscaping design, installation, and maintenance. • Review home security requirements and systems. • New home furnishings, appliances, and interior decorating will make the house a home.
