REVIEW 8 toques & 60 birthday candles at the Relais & Châteaux Gourmet Festival Grands Chefs Simon Taxacher and Norbert Niederkofler from Restaurant St Hubertus at the Rosa Alpina Hotel & Spa in San Cassiano/South Tyrol joined forces during the latest Relais & Châteaux Gourmet Festival in Kirchberg. Compositions of brown trout, of Danube salmon and of venison shared the stage with crayfish, celery and black garlic, beetroot gnocchi with beery crumble, and yoghurt with wheat grass and sweetcorn – all were met with standing ovations. As if that wasn’t reason enough for jubilation, the prestigious Relais & Châteaux hotel association celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. This was marked by a very large birthday cake!

Summer party to celebrate 10 years of the Restaurant Amador
The spotlight at the third Chef’s Table was on the great culinary arts of the Alpine countries. In June, the Althoff Schlosshotel Lerbach in Bergisch Gladbach hosted nine chefs who prepared as many courses to build a culinary bridge between Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

On the tracks of the Alpini & Kaiserjäger In remembrance of the outbreak of the First World War 100 years ago, a memorial service was held in Alta Badia in the Dolomites of South Tyrol on 27 June. Award-winning chefs contributed to raising awareness of the events and circumstances of the time. Their recipes documented the austere food at the disposal of people at the front. REVIEW 4 toques ‘for the perfect drive’ Simon Taxacher launched his own golf tournament series. A very special year for golfers, 2014 saw the opening on 9 May of the new Kitzbüheler Alpen Westendorf 18-hole championship golf course. Furthermore, Simon Taxacher launched his own golf tournament series: the first Rosengarten GOURMET GOLF TROPHY and the Rosengarten INTERNATIONAL GOLF OPEN took place at the Westendorf golf course. As well as a perfect game, the Rosengarten also offered a new dimension of culinary delights, including halfway house refreshments by the Windau Lounge terrace, where the star chef himself prepared delectable nourishment. After the last putt on the green, everyone relocated to the Hotel Rosengarten where a great culinary feast, kitchen party and award ceremony was held for both golfers and nongolfers.

Like a heart beating in the depths of the movement it rotates and oscillates at the same time. Fine, light, tiny. ‘You simply can’t take your eyes off it’, says Wilhelm Rieber. ‘The tourbillon has that effect on everyone.’ ‘I want to build special watches and preserve the legacy of Abraham Louis Breguet and Alfred Helwig’, says Rieber, referring to his idols and legends of watchmaking who invented the tourbillon and its flying variant.
His love of the sea began early: born 1967 in Heilighafen in East Holstein, Holger Bodendorf spent his childhood by the Baltic Sea. He completed his training as a chef with honours and after gaining a few years of experience, went to work at the Landhaus Stricker on the island of Sylt. Before finally settling there, his travels took him to the Hotel Atlantic in Hamburg and the legendary two-star Petermann’s Kunststuben restaurant in Zurich. In 1992 he returned to Sylt and took over the post of chef de cuisine at Tappe’s Restaurant in Walter’s Hof in Kampen. Four years later, Holger Bodendorf signed up with the Restaurant Veneto in the Hotel Windrose in Wenningstedt where he was awarded his first Michelin Star in 2000. Bodendorf has been in charge of Landhaus Stricker since 2001. As both host and chef de cuisine, he is responsible for the five-star-superior hotel as well as the two restaurants: fresh, light cuisine combined with Landhaus Stricker classics in the Restaurant siebzehn84, and FrenchMediterranean cuisine in Bodendorf’s, the gourmet restaurant. Bodendorf’s has held one Michelin star since 2003. 18 out of 20 Gault Millau points, four points in the Feinschmecker-Guide, and four diamonds in the Varta Guide are just some of the of Bodendorf’s more recent awards.
