Singer’s Gäste-News Winter 2015/2016
Mellow wintertime in Berwang – a winter’s tale of wellness Every breath is transformed into a liberating burst of energy in the fresh, sparkling air; crisp snow glistens in the sun and moonlight; enchanting hilltops and glittering summits; brilliant pistes… and, of course, a relaxing oasis of wellbeing at the heart of it all: enjoy a winter holiday at the Singer Sporthotel & SPA in Berwang for a mellow, yet invigorating break away from the ordinary.
The winter wonderland that surrounds the Singer Sporthotel & SPA sets the scene for a vast array of fun activities and relaxation in the snow. An extensive network of
more than 110km of crosscountry trails attracts skiing fans to the great outdoors where they can enjoy being on their ‘planks’ free of workaday tension and knowing they are doing wonders for their health and muscle tone. This is also a walkers’ paradise where hikers can explore Berwang’s vast winter universe on more than
60km of marked footpaths. Off-path, walkers can buckle on snowshoes to explore virgin terrain and pristine peaks where they relish the experience of
being the first to leave their tracks in the dazzling snow. Those who prefer their winter pleasures at a faster pace can grab a toboggan and make for the Jägerhaus on foot or by cable car, and then roar down the natural toboggan run. Tobogganing under a starry night sky is another unforgettable experience, which is why every Thursday night from 6pm until 9.45pm it’s moonlit tobogganing time in Berwang! Night owls can also enjoy night ice-skating and night skiing in the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena several times a week. Another way to progress smoothly across the snow, albeit
with more horsepower, is the horse-drawn sleigh – enjoy the fairy-tale romance of the ride as you snuggle down under a soft, warm blanket. The guided torch-lit hikes that are held every Tuesday in Lermoos also promise to be as charming as they are fun. If you prefer to move across the ice on two runners, the Zugspitz Arena has several artificial and natural ice rinks where you can draw tracks and pirouettes – or even chase a puck with a hockey stick. Berwang’s mellow winter pleasures are not limited to the area’s countless off-piste opportunities: gloriously
wide, gently sloping and
perfectly groomed pistes in and around Berwang are ideal for families, beginners, returners and leisurely skiers. If the weather should refuse to play ball, Singer’s exercise professionals have put together a varied indoor programme: get fit with our back exercise and aqua gym classes and be ready to face new challenges, or get in touch with the authentic, innermost you with Yoga and meditation sessions. After a mellow day in the winter wonderland it’s time to revel in some winter wellness in our Singer’s SPA. Magnificent massages soothe away tension, while
fabulous facials restore radiance after a day in the chilly winter air. And our Singer’s SPA for Kids treatments are specially designed for the enjoyment and benefit of our younger guests. To complete your day, enjoy the wintry delights of a deliciously warming dinner at Restaurant 1928 or our gourmet Singer’s Tiroler Stube restaurant. Follow this with a good glass of wine and piano music in front of the open fire as your winter’s day of wellness at the Singer Sporthotel & SPA comes to its enchanting conclusion... We’re really looking forward to a mellow wintertime in
Berwang. Are you?

back2ski Berwang’s mellow winter’s tale of wellness continues on the slopes as well as off-piste and in the Singer Sporthotel & SPA programme. Fabulously wide and perfectly groomed pistes invite you to practise your skills at leisure. Avoid the queues and crowds: skiing in Berwang is a relaxing treat for the whole family as well as beginners, returners and experienced skiers. 36km of slopes and 12 lifts add up to excellent skiing in Berwang. Skis: tick, snow: tick... but? Not everyone’s heart immediately fills with thrilled anticipation when they look to the valley from the top of a ski slope. Many don’t even make it to the lift. Be it after an accident, after a long break or after a lifetime without skis: ski learners and returners can relax in the knowledge that they are
discover a new and wider skiing perspective. Falger recommends one-to-one lessons for nervous would-be skiers: ‘During these sessions we start by observing the student. We use video analysis to make an assessment and then we work with them on their skiing’. Special courses for seniors and people with disabilities are also available in Berwang.
well looked after here in Berwang. Walter Falger, the head of Berwang’s ski school explains that ‘Berwang’s ski region has wide slopes, gently descending pistes and, most importantly, an ideal practice area where the transition from absolute beginner to confident skier happens smoothly’. Skischule Berwang’s highly trained instructors offer
lessons in small groups for beginners and returners, or in one-to-one sessions: you’ll be whizzing down those slopes in no time at all. ‘We get many enquiries from ‘old hands’ who would like to get back on their skis, and we have instructors who deal specifically with returners’, says Falger. These highly trained teachers are recipients of the Tyrolean Ski Association’s Quality Award, and gently help their students to
Fun & pizzazz on the slopes Since life is a constant learning experience, even experienced skiers can pick up tips from the pros to add the finishing touches to their fun on the slopes. For summiteers, the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena offers even more piste and powder fun with a total of 6
ski areas, 139km of slopes and 58 cable cars. The Zugspitzplatt glacier, for example, is located at almost 3,000m above sea level, but can be reached from the hotel in just 15 minutes! Top tips for snow kids It’s not only grown-up beginners and returners who find themselves in the best of hands with Skischule Berwang’s
ski instructors. Bobo’s Kinderclub® provides your budding little snow bunnies with an age-appropriate, playful and fun introduction to the sport – all with the help of Bobo the cuddly penguin. Snow kids are taught in small groups with others of their age and ability. The amount of time the children are taught daily also varies depending on their age. Time spent on the slopes can be rather tiring, which is why 3 to 4-year olds have lessons for no more than 1¼ hours per day. Their lessons become longer with increasing age and ability, and the maximum each day is 4 hours for children and teenagers aged 5 to 15. The highlight of the children’s courses is the weekly ski race that takes place every Thursday, and in which everyone wins: all participants receive a Bobo’s Kinderclub® medal and certificate. When every member of the family has fun in the snow, you can say,
‘skis: tick, snow: tick... yay!’

Singer’s 1st Ausserfern
– the delights of local fare
Because ‘local food tastes better’, the Singer Sporthotel & SPA and Berwang’s restaurateurs held an exceptional culinary celebration in October 2015: the first Ausserfern Food Festival. Gourmands were spoilt for choice: a bread baking course, a farmers’ market with tastings of local delicacies and a real Berwang-style 5-course gala dinner. The cooks were Singer’s Chef Thomas Kunath, Sous Chef Max Korschinsky and the town’s restaurateurs. Together they conjured up the finest delicacies from the local
repertoire, and used only products sourced from the best suppliers within the region. Hotel guests and locals enjoyed an agreeable evening being spoiled by the talented chefs and entertained by folk music ensemble ‘Die Grageler’ – and they also picked up a tip or two from the professional chefs and food suppliers...
On 4 July 2015, some 120 invited guests joined BMW and partners at the 2nd ‘Special Moments’ event for connoisseurs. The day was filled with adventure, fun and delights at the most beautiful locations on the shore of Lake Wörth; with presentations by BMW of their latest vehicles, as well as art, music and, of course, haute cuisine provided by selected Relais & Châteaux award-winning chefs. Classic motorboats from Carinthia’s motor yacht club set off for five magical places on the shores of the lake where the latest BMW models could be admired: BMW’s 7 Series, M6 Convertible, i8 Spyder Concept and Mille Miglia Concept. The perfect stage was set for these exclusive cars with additional delights and ‘money
can’t buy’ experiences provided by Louis Vuitton, Montblanc, Rahimi, Relais & Châteaux, Julius Meinl and many more. Among the chefs offering uncompromising pleasures of the palate were Thomas Kunath and Max Korschinsky from the Singer Sporthotel & SPA. They took up their positions at the exclusive Villa Riva’s Station 3 where they offered the attending connoisseurs a light summer menu to match the searing temperatures: Mango tartare with red onions and baked avocado with sour cream | Whitefish and root vegetables in a crustacean decoction with smoked potato espuma | Raspberry and lemongrass sorbet or coconut and lime sorbet.
