We’re so excited: the French National soccer team finish their European Football Championship training here at the Jagdhof! The UEFA Euro 2016 host team, coaches and support staff are staying with us from 31 May until 4 June and will be training on the UEFA-standard pitch at Neustift’s Alpine stadium.

Raptures of the deep

Not for acrophobics: every weekend between 1 May and 29 October daredevils can bungee jump off the Bridge of Europe. This amazing bridge stands 192m high above the ground, so plenty of adrenaline guaranteed... Details and registration: www.europabruecke.at/en/

Running high: the Schlickeralm Race

Since 1988, the sports club in Telfes has been organising international mountain running races. The highlight so far was the World Masters Mountain Running Championship in 2014, which attracted 1,000 athletes to the Stubai valley. This year, the WMRA World Cup will be held on 30 and 31 July. The race is on Sunday with a fun run on Saturday. Starting at the village square in Telfes, the 8 kilometre circular route takes runners across meadows and along tracks. Music & magical light by the Grawa Waterfall

On 15 July, the Grawa Waterfall will be beautifully lit up. Music played by traditional local bands accompany the illuminations. A feast for the senses!

Stubai Almklang Alpine music event

The Stubai Almklang has been a folk music highlight in the Stubai valley for many years. This year sees its 20th anniversary – with even more musicians from across the Alpine region. Date: 8 August in Pinnistal Neustift.

Cattle drive in Neustift

Save the date: 17 September is when Stubai’s festively festooned cows conclude their ‘summer holiday’ in the mountain and return to their stables in the valley. This is a traditional festival at which visitors also get to enjoy plenty of local folk music and Tyrolean specialities.

911 Meeting at the Jagdhof From 11 to 18 September the Jagdhof again doubles as a ‘paddock’ for passionate Porsche drivers. For one week, we explore the area’s most beautiful mountain passes and villages. Whether high Alpine or high speed – we can already promise a dream route for every fan of 911s!

From 21 to 23 October, the 8th Stubai Première on the Stubai Glacier is packed with events and highlights. As the Stubai Zoo established itself as one of Europe’s best snow parks, so the Stubai Première has also become one of the largest park openings in the Alps.

Strap on your skis, get set, and kick off the new season at Sportscheck’s winter sports material test. From 10 to 13 November you can test over 3,800 winter sports products by more than 50 manufacturers. There will also be experts on hand to provide advice, as well as numerous workshops to take part in.

Wild water walking on the WildeWasserWeg trail

Of turquoise lakes and thundering waterfalls Since the WildeWasserWeg opened last summer, walkers can now follow the course of the Ruetz mountain stream: a definite must-do for your next visit to the Jagdhof; be prepared to get wet as well as exhilarated!

stages. 6 hours. 11 kilometres. 1,200m altitude and at least as many wonderful views: following four years of construction work, the Stubai valley’s ‘wild water trail’ was completed in the summer of 2015. It is an extraordinary footpath that leads past some of our most spectacular sights, and high up into the Alpine permafrost. This is where the Ruetz

rises as a small trickle before turning into a rapid stream as it winds its way down to the valley and flows past the Jagdhof. Fancy a walk ‘against the current’? The trail’s 3 stages are fairly easy and some sections are even wheelchair accessible. Perfect for families, leisurely walkers and anyone looking for rest, relaxation and stunning views!

Stage 1:

WildeWasserArena to Grawa Waterfall Walking time: 1.5 hours, Distance: 3.5km, Elevation gain: 120m The walk starts at the quarry in Ranalt – practically on the Jagdhof’s doorstep. A small terrain model provides interesting information about the enormous importance of this waterway to the Stubai valley. We continue into the valley along the gently burbling Ruetz, which is soon transformed into a roaring stream with occasional rapids. At the exit of the spectacular Ruetz Cataract with its two viewing platforms and boardwalk, we come across the Tschangelair Alm pasture and farm; a great place for a rustic refreshment stop – we recommend the freshly smoked trout! Thus fortified, we are ready for the end

of the first leg: the spectacular Grawa Waterfall with its stepped cascades, tumbling masses of water, spray and mist. The actual volume of water changes with the seasons, but it’s also worth stopping to admire the spectacle for purely health-related reasons: the fine water vapour is rich in negatively charged ions that cleanse the lungs and benefit the upper airways. A study conducted by the Paracelsus University Salzburg concluded that an hour spent by the Grawa Waterfall can significantly ameliorate the symptoms of asthma, allergies, and stress, including burnout syndromes.

Stage 2:

Grawa Waterfall to the Sulzenauhütte Hut Walking time: 2.5 hours, Distance: 4km, Elevation gain: 600m We continue along an ancient Alpine path. Walkers need to be fit, surefooted, and have the right footwear for this steep and sometimes slippery section. Two viewing platforms allow us to admire the Grawa Waterfall one more time before we arrive at Sulzenegg at 1,800m altitude. At this point the path is almost flat and there are beautiful glacier views. After passing the hut we walk on to the foot of the Sulzenau Waterfall where the water hurtles 200 vertical metres down to the green pastureland. A spectacular sight, especially in the early afternoon when the sun causes the water to shimmer in every colour of the rainbow. The path snakes uphill until we finally arrive at the Sulzenauhütte Hut, which is perched high on a huge rock escarpment. As a reward for the steep climb walkers get to enjoy an unbeatable view.

Stage 3:

Sulzenauhütte Hut to Glacier

Walking time: 1.5 hours, Distance: 3km, Elevation gain: 400m The third and final stage takes us to the foot of Sulzenauferner via some of the most stunning glacial landscapes of the Alps. The Zuckerhütl and the jagged serac towers always in sight, we walk past the turquoise mountain lakes and colourful glacier polish to the lake below the Peiljoch ridge. This is the magical spot at which the wild water first bubbles to the surface and where our walk comes to its scenic end.

Four scenic and magical places to explore:

1 Maria Waldrast, place of pilgrimage

If you believe the legend, this is where a shepherd boy discovered an image of the Virgin Mary in the trunk of a larch tree. We don’t have any way of knowing whether this story is true, but we do know that there is a healing spring close to the monastery. To test it out, take the forest road from the Serlesbahn upper terminus to the monastery.

2 Schlicker See, mountain lake

Small, but oh my! The Schlicker See boasts an amazing geological phenomenon in that the transition from primary rock to limestone runs along its shore, and is visible to the naked eye. We recommend the route from Schlicker Bergbahn’s upper terminus via Niederer Burgstall and Schlicker Jöchl.

3 Ruetz and Klaus Äuele Kids’ Park

Perfect for families: walk from the Tschangelair Alm along the Ruetz to the Mutterberg lower terminus and then on to the alluvial land at Klaus Äuele. The lake there is a great place for rest and play – the kids will love the adventure playground and high ropes course.

4 Alpein Waterfall and Aperer Turm

A stunning waterfall, pretty mountain lake, and a great vantage point: this walk could easily be entitled ‘Best of the Stubai valley’. It begins at the Oberissalm and rises with an elevation gain of 700m. Refreshments are available at the Alpeinalm and the Franz Senn Hut.
