90 YEARS OF HOSPITALITY AND WELLBEING FOR OUR GUESTS!
90 YEARS OF
Dear guests and friends OF THE SINGER SPORTHOTEL & SPA,
2017 was a particularly exciting year for us here in Berwang. With a major refurbishment, improvements to the hotel, beautifully renovated rooms, and of course the birth of our daughter, Leonie, this year was a special one! We are now well settled; the refurbishment is finished, and we can once again focus on what’s most important: our guests! In autumn 2018, when the hotel is closed, the last 12 rooms will be completely renovated and the SPA expanded with a heated whirlpool – and apart from that, this year we celebrate the 90th anniversary of Hotel Singer in Berwang. When I reflect on how many years it’s been since my grandparents started the Hotel Guesthouse Singer, and how different the world looked in 1928, it is somewhat humbling that we get to continue this work as ‘youngsters’ and ‘tinker’ with these mostly original foundation walls. But one thing hasn’t changed in the last nine decades: making sure our guests enjoy the most wonderful holidays! With this in mind, we look forward to welcoming you back soon and pampering you, Singer style! With our warmest greetings, Your hosts,
Florian, Christina, Leonie and Gerti Singer

Three generations, two success stories & a fantastic anniversary offer After welcoming guests to the Singer Sporthotel & SPA in Berwang for 90 years, the time has come to celebrate all that three generations of Singers have created. Of course, we want to celebrate this remarkable anniversary with you in 2018, so we have put together an extremely tempting special offer.
B
ut first let us journey back in time to reflect on some highlights of the last 90 eventful years. The story begins with a ‘modern, sunlit Alpine hotel’ with 30 rooms built by Hans Singer Jr. and his wife Irma – the grandparents of current hotel owner Florian Singer. A few years later, they constructed a second, smaller building next to the hotel. The success story of our hotel unfolded alongside a second significant development – Hans Singer embarked on a project with Berwang council to build mountain lifts and cable cars, which eventually resulted in the Bergbahnen Berwang lifts. Today the Singers still own about fifty percent of shares in the lifts. Then, under the direction of Günter Singer and his wife Gerti, the once modern Alpine hotel was transformed into a supremely comfortable establishment offering elegance and Tyrolean style. They placed even more importance on high quality guest service with a personal touch. Another à la carte restaurant was added, as well as

the Singer Stub’n dance hall, which quickly became the number one meeting place and an important establishment in the region. In 1978, the addition of a traditional Tyrolean pitched roof gave the hotel a fresh look and enabled a fourth floor to be built at the same time. 90 YEARS of the Singer Sporthotel & SPA 24 June to 01 July 2018

Wellbeing, tranquillity and deep relaxation are the principles of the Singer Sporthotel & SPA’s wellbeing area today. The foundation stone of the SPA was laid by our family in 1982, when the hotel installed its first little SPA with a Jacuzzi, sauna, gym and sunbeds. 2005 saw the biggest milestone in the hotel’s history, when the Sporthotel Singer became the Singer Sporthotel & SPA with a 1,800sqm, self-contained, three-storey SPA building set in a 10,000sqm Alpine Relaxation Garden. Now, as the third generation, my wife Christina and I, Florian Singer, are successfully carrying on the family business. In 2017, the same year in which our baby daughter Leonie arrived, we embarked on our 2017-2019 project, which is both ambitious and visionary. We are planning to continue taking steps towards the success of our hotel with an extension, renovation of all rooms and expansion of the SPA area, and you can be sure that this isn’t the end of the story! Happy Birthday: 90 years of the Singer Sporthotel & SPA This is the story of three generations of one family whose hard work and vision shaped a successful business. We celebrate 90 years of history. We celebrate 90 years of Tyrolean hospitality. We celebrate a 90-year-old tradition of wellbeing and gastronomic delights. Great reasons to celebrate with you!

A day in the life of a caretaker: BUSY BEHIND THE SCENES
A
lthough not always obvious to guests, the work that goes on behind the scenes is often the most important. There’s no better example of this than the work of our in-house technicians, Peter, Gigi and Petar, who have seen it all during their many years at the Singer Sporthotel & SPA. We shadowed them for a day. The team of three work tirelessly throughout the year, whether the hotel is open or not, helping with any renovation work and masterfully overseeing day-to-day tasks. Every day from 7am to 8pm, at least one of the team is on duty. The hotel awakens after a restful night’s sleep at 7am every morning and an exciting new day begins. The three heroes cloaked in red are usually the first employees to appear, opening doors and turning on lights throughout the hotel, from the delivery entrance to the SPA area. Then they empty the bins and bottle recycling to make sure every area starts the day looking clean and tidy. For one of the team, the rest of the morning is almost entirely spent doing jobs in the rooms, such as providing an extra bed or cot, or fixing lights that don’t work properly. The caretakers work with the housekeeping staff to ensure the rooms are in perfect order for our guests. They also clean out and prepare the fireplaces in the rooms and public areas. Meanwhile, the other two caretakers look after our dear guests – they are readily available upon your arrival or departure to help with luggage and to park or retrieve your car. The most important means of communication between the hotel areas and our caretakers is the maintenance manual. Staff in the different departments use this book to record various repair jobs which are promptly fixed by the caretakers throughout the day. For urgent issues they can be reached at all times by internal mobile, which rings constantly. Every part of the hotel needs help or support at some point in the day, whether due to a broken machine, an electrical fault, or water not being hot enough.
Our ‘heroes in red’: Peter, Petar and Gigi
Maintaining our SPA area is an important aspect of the job, particularly sanitising the pools. Two measurements with special fluids guarantee the daily water quality in both pools, and the automated dosing systems for chlorine, pH reducers and flocculants are checked, calibrated and adjusted if necessary so that the water always meets current requirements and is in perfect order. The pool is also cleaned and maintained – every four days the large filter is backwashed, several thousand litres of fresh water are pumped in, the bottom of the pool is vacuumed and the Kneipp basin is cleaned.
Thank you and all the best, Mr Sebastian! Our deepest thanks go to one of our longest-serving, closest employees, our reception manager Sebastian Vogt, for his hard-work during the last 13 years. Sebastian is leaving us after this winter season to pursue new opportunities abroad. We will miss him but wish him all the very best and every success for the future. He will always be welcome at our hotel! ‘Thank you, dear Sebastian, for always being there for our guests, for your professionalism, your passion for your job, your wonderful suggestions, the milestones we celebrated together, and for all the fun-filled and enjoyable moments spent over the past years.’ With our warmest greetings,
Florian and Christina Singer and the whole team! Dear guests, our head of reservations, Lisanne Thiele – who has been working with us for two years – and our experienced reception team will continue to look after your every need with enthusiasm and dedication. Our reception team are always available in person, on the phone or by email.
Our caretakers always have a lot of work to do outside – so they spend a lot of time in the fresh air! Our 10,000sqm Alpine Relaxation Garden is regularly mowed and in winter, when we often get up to 70cm of snow falling in one night, the open spaces around the hotel need to be cleared. Finally, when evening falls and all of the day’s arrivals are inside, everything has to be locked up and switched off again. A final inspection to make sure everything is clean and tidy, and another exciting day as a caretaker at the Singer Sporthotel & SPA comes to an end.
DO YOU KNOW... ...how many lights are used in the hotel? 2,500 …how much water our pools hold? 220,000 litres …how many tonnes of luggage our caretakers carry to and from rooms every year? Approx. 60 tonnes …how many litres of heating oil we are able to save since our 2017 building upgrade to heat our hotel, SPA and staff house, to supply hot water, and to keep the pools warm? In the spring of 2017 we switched to natural gas and have halved our heating oil requirement to 60,000 litres!
