Employers are looking for recruits who have a thorough grounding in the latest industry requirements and workready skills, for example teamwork. Learners who progress to higher education need experience of research, extended writing and meeting deadlines. BTEC qualifications provide the breadth and depth of learning to give learners this experience.

Requirements

GCSE Physical Education is not required to study this course, though an interest in sport and the sports industry is strongly recommended. To be successful on this course, students will usually: n Have a grade 4 in the three sciences with preferably a grade 6 in Biology or a 5 5 in Dual Award GCSE Combined Science;

n Be inventive and innovative in creating and presenting work, showing good research skills; n Have a strong work ethic and good time management skills to keep on top of the regular coursework demands of the course.

Subject content

Hymers are currently considering the possible options for BTEC Sport. A decision on the courses to be offered will be made before the new year and will be informed by careful research and by considering student voice. The BTEC National Level 3 Diploma (equivalent to two A Levels) will certainly be offered. The BTEC National Level 3 Extended Certificate (equivalent to one A Level) may also be offered as an option.

Assessment

A continual assessment model is used to assess BTEC courses. This means that a modular structure is assessed as the learning has taken place throughout the course. Dependent on course choices, this will be done by a combination of external exams/controlled assessment/written coursework/practical coursework.

n Business in Sport;

n Sports Performance Analysis;

n Marketing communications.
