Reporting directly to the Head of Hymers College, this is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to oversee and lead all strategic aspects of the School’s admissions and marketing functions. This is a full time, all year round position, plus occasional weekend and evening events.

The Head of Admissions & Marketing will line manage a team of three assistants to include the Design & Marketing Assistant (0.6 FTE) and Admissions Assistant (0.6FTE). In the coming months we are looking to grow the capacity of these crucial support functions by recruiting an additional full time Admissions & Marketing Assistant.

Working closely with the Head of Hymers Hessle Mount and Hymers Junior School, the Head of Admissions & Marketing will ensure that the true value of a Hymers education is recognised as widely as possible across the region.

We are looking for a highly organised and enthusiastic individual. The position will suit someone who can enhance and uphold the School’s profile and thrive on being the public ‘face’ of Hymers College. They will have a passion for leading and directing but also enjoy ‘rolling up their sleeves’ in peak periods of office administration.

In this full time position, the Head of Admissions & Marketing will: n Have overall responsibility for the Admissions and Marketing functions. n Develop and implement the School’s marketing strategy, in liaison with the Head. n Promote the benefits of a Hymers education to as wide an audience as possible, by building and sustaining strong and effective relationships with stakeholders and prospective parents and pupils. n Manage and develop the admissions process to effectively recruit pupils at every point of entry, from Hymers Hessle Mount through to the Sixth Form.

Hymers College is recognised as one of the leading independent schools in the North East for the all-round excellence of the education that it offers. We strive to ensure that our pupils excel in their studies and develop into confident and compassionate individuals. Central to the success with which the School meets its aims are the outstanding co-curricular opportunities in sport, the performing arts, volunteering and outward-bound activities. Despite a great deal of recent capital investment, the School is in a strong financial position and has no borrowings. Located in the city of Hull, Hymers is a selective, academic school of almost 1100 pupils. Following the acquisition of its associate pre-prep school Hymers has, since September 2022, offered an education of the highest quality to pupils across the full range - from 3-18 - thereby satisfying the demand of local fee-paying parents. Founded in 1893 “for the training of intelligence in whatever social rank of life it may be found among the vast and varied population of the town and port of Hull”, Hymers remains true to its founding mission through the provision of a large number of means-tested bursaries. The School now serves a wide catchment across the city, East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. Both pupils and staff travel considerable distances to be a part of this leading education establishment. The Head is a member of HMC (the Heads’ Conference), a society of 300 of the finest schools in the UK and abroad, and we received an outstanding report from the Independent Schools Inspectorate in 2022. In all we do, we remain true to our original motto: High Merit! High Reward!

We set up our pupils for life

Our high standards and expectations create a culture whereby young people are supported and challenged to become the best versions of themselves. This can be seen in our consistently outstanding results across all academic disciplines and high uptake in the wide variety of co-curricular activities we offer before, during and after school. We support pupils to fulfil their aspirations as they make friends for life and develop into well-rounded, grounded young adults.

Learning spaces to spark imaginations

We know that having engaging learning environments helps support and inspire pupils in their academic studies. Across both campuses we have created exciting and well-maintained surroundings for pupils to explore, play, learn and grow. At the front of Hymers Hessle Mount we have a large field used for games, a sunken garden, on-site forest school, trim trail and all-weather play area. Since we acquired it last year, we have continued to make considerable capital investment into this section of our School. At Hymers College, set in a leafy campus of 45 acres, pupils benefit from our swimming pool, top-level astro pitch, 200-seat theatre, purpose-built science labs and state-of-the-art Learning Resource Centre and Music School.

Welcome from the Head

“From Pre-School right through to Sixth Form, Hymers offers the very best in education, facilities, pastoral support and co-curricular opportunities for those aged 3 - 18. As one school, on two sites, with one collective vision, at Hymers Hessle Mount and Hymers College we put our children at the centre of all that we do. On both campuses, creative and dynamic teachers support pupils on their learning journey, inspiring them to become independent thinkers who are interested and engaged in the world around them. Hymers also offers a supportive system of pastoral care with a strong tutorial system and House system. We recognise that the social and emotional development of pupils is of equal importance to their academic progress. As such, the co-curricular offering outside the classroom is second-to-none. We want our pupils to thrive during their time at school and we aim to give them the very best possible start in life. The appointment of our Head of Marketing & Admissions is a key role for the School and I thank you for showing interest in joining the Hymers community.”

Hull & the East Riding of Yorkshire

Hymers College is located in Kingston upon Hull (Hull), on the North bank of the River Humber, where it is joined by the River Hull. The Yorkshire and Humber region has a population of over 5 million – and the urban population of Hull is estimated to be over 500,000 people.

The city has a proud history. Founded in the 12th century, it received its Royal Charter in 1299 and has seen considerable fame and success as a market town, port, fishing and maritime centre and industrial metropolis. Hull has a marked tradition of non-conformity, innovation and enlightened thought, reflecting the fact that, whilst it is on the eastern-most edge of England, it has been at the heart of a network of world-wide trade routes for centuries, and remains a key gateway to Europe.

In 2014 national estate agency Rightmove placed Hull 7th out of 100 places to live in the UK. The city has enjoyed other accolades in recent years as well, thus ensuring that its qualities are now far better understood than they might once have been. This was accelerated by Hull becoming the UK City of Culture in 2017, during which it hosted a year-long programme of world class arts and culture. City of Culture was a cornerstone of the city’s 10 year City Plan, focussed on transforming the city through top-quality public realm works and major capital projects.

The city is also home to the University of Hull, which now has more than 16,000 students and around 2,500 employees, including more than 1,000 academic staff. The University is situated about 10 minutes away from Hymers. There are also two hospitals in the region.

Economically, the city is vibrant and developing. Siemens is a large presence in the region and has recently announced further investment in their offshore wind turbine manufacturing and installation facility in Hull. It is also home to a number of successful and growing SMEs.

Living in the Region

Hull is an exciting city surrounded by the East Riding of Yorkshire. It is a city that is investing in its people and its community, and as such there is a thriving and dynamic community with a proud maritime heritage.

The East Riding of Yorkshire is steeped in heritage and known for its beautiful and unspoilt countryside, open plains and rugged hills. It offers dramatic coastlines, award winning sandy beaches, picturesque villages and historic market towns. The coastal resorts of Flamborough Head, Bridlington, Hornsea and Withernsea are popular family destinations as are the market towns of Beverley, Howden, Driffield, Pocklington and Market Weighton which offer a more relaxed pace of life.

The unrivalled quality of life in Yorkshire and the Humber is founded on this combination of cosmopolitan urban areas surrounded by beautiful countryside. With no less than three national parks on the doorstep of a thriving commercial landscape, this is a region where work and life really can be kept in balance. As Britain’s biggest county, Yorkshire has more historic houses, castles and national parkland than anywhere else.

A variety of interests can be satisfied in Hull and its surrounding environs. Entry into all of Hull’s museums and galleries is free, and the range is exceptional. The city is also home to historic ships such as the Arctic Corsair – a veteran of the Cod Wars – and the Spurn Lightship, moored in the Hull Marina. The Marina is home to over 250 yachts and pleasure boats, and is the centrepiece of a range of excellent pubs, restaurants and waterfront cafés dotted along the cobbled streets leading to the Old Town.

The city has two main theatres and hosts the annual Freedom Festival. Freedom Festival is the lasting legacy of the Wilberforce 2007 campaign which celebrated the pioneering work of Hull-born MP William Wilberforce, and the bicentenary of the abolition of the slave trade in the British Empire.

The city also has a proud popular music tradition – acts as diverse as Mick Ronson, Roland Gift, the Beautiful South and The Foals (themselves graduates of the University) are from Hull, and the Humber Street Sesh is a popular music festival centred on the city’s Fruit Market area. Hull also has a range of sporting venues and its local teams have enjoyed national successes in recent times.
