Register on a briefing session In order to attend any of the ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) programmes it is essential that you first attend a briefing session. The briefing session allows you to learn more about the content of the programme, the level of commitment involved and also the standard of work you will need to achieve in order to gain the qualification. There is no obligation to register for the programme, but we do encourage you to come to a briefing and find out about the course content from the people who deliver it.

ILM Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring What is the ILM Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring? The ILM Level 5 Certificate in Coaching & Mentoring qualification aims to provide practising managers with the knowledge, skills and confidence to perform effectively as management coaches or mentors and to gain an awareness and practical ideas of how to successfully introduce coaching into the workplace.

What level qualification is the Certificate? In terms of national qualifications framework (QCF) ILM Level 5 is equivalent to Foundation Degree.

What we ask of you:

ILM Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring is generally aimed at any team leaders/managers from Grade 6 upwards. They should normally have successfully completed an ILM Level 3 qualification in Coaching, or an ILM Level 5 qualification in Management, or equivalent. Exceptional learners, who have no formal qualification in team leading or first line management, but who have several years’ experience in coaching may also be suitable for this programme.

To successfully complete this highly practical qualification, participants will be required to complete five days face-to-face delivery, a minimum of 12 hours coaching practise and a work-based assignment.

Once registered you have made a commitment to complete the Certificate. It is your responsibility to learn and put what you have learnt into practice. You will need to hand any work in on time and keep your line manager informed. As part of this programme you will be responsible for finding suitable individuals to coach.

How is it delivered?

This powerful and very practical programme uses up-to-the minute research, tools and techniques to develop the twin themes of individual coaching competence and coaching in an organisational context. The programme explores the management of coaching as well as developing the skills, confidence and competence of those coaching at a managerial level.

n High quality delivery and assessment standards.

Programme units include: n Unit 1: Understanding the skills, principles and practice of effective management coaching and mentoring. Unit 2: Undertaking management coaching or n mentoring in the workplace. Unit 3: Reviewing own ability as a management n coach or mentor.

What support is available? n Full tutor support (up to 2 hours). n All workbooks and some additional material

and resources will be available to you.

n A supportive and constructive learning

atmosphere where you can feel challenged and stretched in a safe environment. n Staff Development will fully fund you if you register

and commit to this programme. NB If you register to complete the ILM Level 5 qualification, we reserve the right to charge your department on a cost recovery basis if you fail to complete the requirement of the programme.

If you register on the Level 5 programme you are agreeing to the following time commitments: n 5 days face to face delivery. n A minimum of 12 hours coaching. n Writing a ‘coaching diary’ to chart your

development in coaching skills. n Time to prepare and submit a completed

assignment on time. n Additional reading to improve your knowledge of

the subject area.
