RICHARD ALLEN

DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to the Loughborough University Stadium for our FA Women’s National League (Northern Prem) game versus Middlesbrough. We are looking for not only a big performance but also a positive result at home today. Our last 2 games away at Burnley and at home to Derby saw much better performances but unfortunately we lost both games. Unfortunate last Sunday but beaten on Thursday night by a very good Derby side that I am sure will be there or there abouts at the end of the season. Middlesbrough also find themselves at the wrong end of the table and desperate for points so I am sure they are going to be fighting really hard for all 3 points. They currently sit in 12th place with 3 points, just 1 point behind us but with a game in hand. Our Development Team currently sit in 5th place in the FA Reserve Midland Division after 4 games. With a game in hand over the 2 teams above us and 3 points off Wolves who currently sit at the top the league we are very pleased with our start. Our Men’s teams continue to being doing well. Our first team currently sit in 4th position in the United Counties Premier Division North and our Under 21’s sit 2nd in the Midlands Football League Under 21’s League (East) Our Futsal season has also started. We have men’s teams in both the National Futsal Series Tier 1 and 2. Our women’s team play in the National Futsal Series Tier 1.

Our men’s game will be live on BT Sport at 4.45pm today versus Manchester. Please tune in after our game today. We are pleased to welcome the players, supporters and directors of Middlesbrough and look forward to what we hope will be an exciting and entertaining game. Richard Allen Director of Football

CAPTAIN New competition, new opponents and a fresh week to go again. It’s been a busy week for us, a midweek fixture for us and the start of BUCS for the university team. The depth and quality of our squad has meant we’ve been able to keep the same intensity throughout the week. Whilst the result didn’t go our way ok Thursday, the performance certainly did. We battled, we stuck together and we gave Derby a few scares throughout the game. We executed our plan well and I think that’s one of the first games where this new team coming together has clicked. I think I speak for all the girls when I say we are incredibly up for this fixture today. We have had so many positives from the previous performances, it now needs to turn into points on the board. A special mention to those fans who attended Thursdays fixture, roaring us on from start to finish made a huge difference, thank you same again today please! Chloe Young Captain

LOUGHBOROUGH LIGHTNING FC

A BRIEF HISTORY

LOUGHBOROUGH FOXES Gail and Paul Fox founded Loughborough Foxes in 1999, known then as Shepshed Foxes until 2002. For their first 15 years, Foxes played in local leagues, before being promoted to the FA Women’s Northern Premier Division (the 3rd ranked tier of women’s football) in 2015. After the first season they suffered relegation but managed a promotion in 2018 to return to this tier. Winning this Midlands Division One title was actually a club record for Foxes, winning 22 games and drawing just 1.

LOUGHBOROUGH UNIVERSITY PERFORMANCE TEAM Loughborough Students Women’s Football Club offers many competitive opportunities. The performance team compete in the British Universities & Colleges Sports (BUCS) Northern Premier League. When possible, players are also supported to play “external football” alongside the programme, most notably with our partner Loughborough Foxes (Tier 3), but also other Tier 3 and Championship clubs. Each year Loughborough University invests a million pounds in performance sport, and a million pounds in facilities. Thanks to this investment, Director of Football Richard Allen is able to lead a professional programme of coaching and support.

As a first team performance squad member you will receive expert coaching, access to our world class facilities, heavily discounted Powerbase gym membership, strength and conditioning training, nutrition, sports science and sports medicine support. Within the programme players also have access to Performance Lifestyle support and our top athletes can apply for scholarships.

MERGING/ LIGHTNING LAUNCH The University’s performance team and the Loughborough Foxes have officially combined to launch a new Lightning programme that will compete nationally against some of the biggest names in the sport. The clubs have worked in close collaboration for a number of years now with Head Coach Issy Martin overseeing both programmes since her appointment at the University in September 2019.

Lightning will compete in the FA Northern Premier League where it will face teams including Burnley, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest, and West Bromwich Albion.
