LOUGHBOROUGH LIGHTNING V WORCESTER WARRIORS
RHYS EDWARDS
DIRECTOR OF RUGBY Welcome back to Epinal Way, for another round of Premier15s Rugby, where today we host Worcester Warriors. It’s been a while since we hosted a home game in this competition, but it’s great to be back on our track and we are really looking forward maintaining our current momentum. Today’s match sees us host Worcester Warrior at Epinal Way, and showcase the Women’s game at its highest level. Worcester come to Loughborough looking to get another win, having beaten Sale Sharks comfortably last week. The Premier 15s this year is proving to be a very competitive league with many teams now capable of beating each other, which shows the growth of the game. It also means we now have to continually ensure that we perform consistently week in week out. This game is going to be a different challenge, we have a much changed team to our league team, which shows our depth but also the opportunity that this Cup Competition presents. We head into this week following our strong performance, at times against Exeter Chiefs last week, however we know that we need to raise our accuracy to ensure that we perform for the whole 80 mins. Our first half performance last week was impressive with our forwards and backs sharing the try scoring load. What was pleasing was the variance of how we scored, with Amy Pyle cross field kick score the try of the week. Congratulations must also go to all out Internationals who are currently playing the in the 6 nations campaign. The Red Roses in particular looked strong, winning against Scotland. Additionally it is great to see Sadia
Kabeya, playing this weekend against Italy after some exceptional performances this season. Finally, may I welcome James Gallagher to the club, who has joined us as our new Rugby Programme Manager. He will be taking over Amy Walmsley’s role leading our off field delivery. We hope that you enjoy today and please come say hello post game in JCs bar Rhys Edwards Director of Rugby

LOUGHBOROUGH LIGHTNING V WORCESTER WARRIORS
Worcester Warriors Women (formerly known as Worcester Valkyries) are one of only ten clubs nationally that compete at the highest level of English elite women’s rugby – the Allianz Premier 15s. Warriors Women pride themselves on being a progressive, aspirational club who work with both international and local talent to maximise individual player growth and development. With all of Warriors Women’s home games being hosted on the state-of-the-art Artificial Grass Pitch at Sixways, and with access to outstanding training facilities, Worcester Warriors Women truly is the place to be for any ambitious female rugby player. Worcester Ladies were established in 1993 and since then the Club has gone from strength to strength, being
crowned Premiership champions for the first time in their 20year history in the 2012/13 season, and regularly finishing in the top four of the Women’s Premiership. In 2016, Worcester Ladies joined up with Warriors and were renamed Worcester Valkyries, before becoming Worcester Warriors Women ahead of the 2019/20 campaign signalling a new era for the team. The Club has a long history of international success, with many players going on to represent their countries in World Cups and international tournaments such as the Six Nations. Currently 7th in the table this season, like Lightning Warriors have won 1 and lost 3 of their opening games. Both teams will be keen to gain a second season from today’s game.
